Have you ever made a vampire oc before? now that you have a werewolf one with the drifter.
oh man, I've made a few over the years, my first vampire character was inspired by Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. I feel like as far as vampires, that was a formative influence for me. vampires as evolving, increasingly eldritch immortal creatures just, how can you top that? you can't. after that, vampires as "pale undead folks with pointy teeth who bite people's necks and suck their blood" just felt like a letdown, and as an aroace person, I never did get the eroticism of any of that, lmfao.
later I read Dracula by Bram Stoker and the fact that the guy could turn into a bat, a wolf, even mist. that's pretty sick. but of course, especially Dracula kind of began to define what a vampire is.
I feel like... vampires in folklore are far more interesting than pop culture vampires, but then, same could be said for a lot of monsters in horror media, they've just kind of morphed into something formulaic, like, yeah, you can tell at a glance whether a character is a vampire, werewolf, zombie, etc. etc.
anyway I ramble a lot. about 8 years ago I tried making a webcomic with a vampire character, his name is Count Anemia.
I was too ambitious for my own good with wanting to make a full color comic with zero dialogue. as you can probably tell, his design is based on mosquitoes, the humans in the setting are often snout folks but they can be cartoony and abstract in other ways, too.
incidentally, here's the first five pages of the unfinished comic:
maybe I'll revisit the comic sometime, maybe I won't, currently it's not a priority.
Sorry if this has been asked before but what fonts do you use for your comics? How did you learn how to center text for speech bubbles?
The font I use is called Gel Pen! I was vitally important to me that whatever font I use have a bold version because we have so many characters that talk like that.
As for centering text, I just set the text justification to Center in Photoshop and draw a speech bubble around it. It's a pretty quick and sloppy process on my end, I think almost any program that supports text will have a text justification option somewhere!
Aside from that, all I do is try to follow the general comic text guideline that the line length in the middle of the speech bubble should be the longest and the line length should taper up and down at the top and bottom to fit the rounded shape. (I'm pretty sure I'm committing other comic text faux pas, but the way I'm doing it now is good enough for me!)
I @ you earlier but I wasn't sure if you saw. Happy holidays!
I never check mentions on Tumblr, aaaaaa bad mistake on my part!!! I'm so sorry for missing this!! ;<; THIS IS SO CUTE I LOVE THIS SO MUCH 💖💖💖💖
I can't get over the expressions and how Waldo is giving everyone BIG hugs!!! The shading in this is absolutely gorgeous, thank you so much for this gift!! I hope you had a super happy holiday!

Hello! I’ve been following you for a while and saw your post.
I haven’t been super proud of what I’ve been making recently, my own opinion of my art shifts with growth so I’m not worried about it, it’s just frustrating not knowing where to improve in a way that can still let the creative process be fun. Anyway.

This is my art tag, you can just flip through it since I don’t think there is one piece that illustrates my current art journey situation well. I’ve been feeling weak in composition (thumbnailing is hard for me) and also I think my pallets have been feeling awkward, not united enough, it feels too digital almost? And doing lineart digitally is always stiffer than traditional. Or at least this is what I can sense.
Thank you for reading this far and thank you for offering to do free critiques.
I am very incoherent, hope you somehow get anything at all from this sldgjsldgkjsldgkjslgdjj
