Video of the Day: The New Old-Fashioned - What In The Hell
There is something wonderfully disorienting about “What In The Hell.” The New Old-Fashioned has always occupied that sweet spot where power pop, garage rock, country, and indie sensibilities collide, and this latest single turns the amps up while keeping the hooks firmly intact. It’s a song that feels both urgent and effortlessly catchy, asking a question that sounds increasingly relevant in…

Turn It Up Before the World Goes Silent
Every few years somebody announces that music is dead. They say streaming killed it. Algorithms killed it. Social media killed it. Attention spans killed it. Artificial intelligence killed it. Radio killed it. MTV killed it. Napster killed it. Vinyl prices killed it. Somebody is always writing the obituary while another kid is sitting on the floor with a cheap pair of headphones hearing a song…

Dayton's body hasn't hurt this bad since he was stuck in a hospital bed, but it's a good kind of hurt. One that reminds him that his body is still his and he can still use it the way he wants. Did he play any good tonight? Not at all. In fact, it was probably one of his worst games in history, but at least he played. Not just any game either, but a Championship game against players who have more experience than him or never had to take a long hiatus like him.
They lost, but Dayton is still proud and he's buzzing all over from a mix of adrenaline and excitement. It's probably a dangerous combo when he's ushered off to answer questions for press duty, but he doesn't think too hard about it. He just answers the questions as honestly as he can, like he does with most things in his life.
Press duty is finished in a blink of an eye, and when he returns to the locker rooms, the vibes are pretty bleak. They don't match his mood at all. He feels ready to explode over the fact that he can still play Exy, while the others are mourning that 5 - 2 score.
Dayton doesn't let it crush his spirts as he goes to his locker and starts changing out his sweat-drenched jersey. "Press duty was wild," he announces to the room in general, whether anyone is listening to him or not. "I don't remember a single thing I said. I think I blacked out."
Laughing, he shakes out his damp hair and shoves his jersey in his duffle bag, his shoulders aching from the movement. "Fuck, that hurts. Hey, what's the secret to not feeling like you got hit by a car after a game?"
