Sure, Drift could have been looking back at Wing for reassurance, but he could have also done it as a way to subtly answer the question. He looked back at Wing, no one else, almost like he’s implying Wing was the reason he changed, and in a way, he was.

Wing was the one showing Drift different ways, working on him and convincing Drift in his infuriatingly (in Drift’s eyes) patient way. Wing was there, listening to Drift and his troubles, not with disgust or pity, but with interest and understanding.

Wing was the one who never gave up on Drift, was the reason Drift was even alive in the City. Him and his selfless spark was the reason Drift owed him his own.

None of the Knights played a part in Drift changing, none of them deserve that credit, which may be why Drift was so vague in his answer. Didn’t want to offend but also didn’t want to outright admit everything he was now was because of Wing.
