Da Vinci Fest Day 5
Introduction promo post
Day5: Your Top Five Whatever five memorable moments
#5 Leo steps off the boat in the New World Much hair kink. Portraits of historical Leonardo show him with long hair and in "Tigress of Forli" a biography of Caterina Sforza by Elizabeth Lev, he's described thus: "The thirty-five-year-old polymath turned heads with his physical beauty. Boasting long, flowing hair, he was lithe and strong and his every move had the graceful ease of an athlete." A rare example of historical accuracy in the show!
#4 Riario attempts suicide We've seen Riario go from feared Papal enforcer to someone who does have a softer side, watched him choose the Pope over staying with Leo and this is the end result. It's such a bitter moment, but it shows how utterly broken Riario is, how deeply he feels his losses. Hits my h/c kink and is prime material to lead to some actual fixing up and comforting him, and especially some Leario if Leo's the one to help.Β Β [of course I wrote fic] Sadly the show pulls the Labyrinth brainwashing bullshit instead, but this is a beautifully acted tragic moment as he not only cuts both wrists but attempts to drown himself. Possibly in reference to the three-fold death found in Celtic myth?
#3 Loyal Zo Zo is sulking in a tavern. He's loyal to a fault, been through hell with Leo, and now Leo's gone inside the Vatican with Riario, Zo's enemy (would-be-love-rival :P). His "fuck you, Leo" moment lasts only until someone insults Leo, when Zo asks "who dares slander the greatest mind who's ever lived?" and gets into a brawl. Zo's loyalty and depth of affection know no bounds, even when he feels neglected or betrayed by Leo.
#2 The flashback The moment I fell in love with younger!hotter!Riario, aka Blake Ritson in a wig, because hair kink. But also the moment I finally liked Lucrezia too, seeing her devotion to her sister. If you want me to like a character, have them adore and protect their little sister, if you want me to hate them, have them throw little sis under the bus. Riario tries to spare both girls, succeeds in saving only one, and his grief is evident as he speaks with a heartbroken Lucrezia. This scene changed how I felt about both Riario and Lucrezia. (Again, I wrote fix-it fic, in which Riario is successful and Amelia lives)
#1 Leo impersonating Riario I was initially fooled by the close-up with a great imitation of the that voice. Riley does a fantastic job of playing Leo, who's playing Riario. "Do you know who I am?" is a good question. Sadly Alfonso is not fooled, being personally acquainted with the count, but we get to see ambidextrous sword fighting until Leo has to flee. We've heard how they're two sides of the same coin and here we see Leo as Riario; if only we'd seen Riario attempt to be Leo in some way! (@dreamywritingdragon suggests S3's Monster of Italy is almost Riario as Leo, showing a twisted artistic vision, which is a good point!)
My new vid.
Did this for Da Vinci & count Reario, lol, Leario
But in the end, what are we but masters of illusion?

Science Quotes by Leonardo da Vinci ( quotes) #leonardodavinci
Perspective is a most subtle discovery in mathematical studies, for by means of lines it causes to appear distant that which is near, and large that which is small.
The body of the earth is of the nature of a fish... because it draws water as its breath instead of air.
The eye, the window of the soul, is the chief means whereby the understanding can most fully and abundantly appreciate the infinite works of Nature; and the ear is second
The [mechanical] bird I have described ought to be able by the help of the wind to rise to a great height, and this will prove to be its safety; since even if... revolutions [of the winds] were to befall it, it would still have time to regain a condition of equilibrium; provided that its various parts have a great power of resistance, so that they can safely withstand the fury and violence of the descent, by the aid of the defenses which I have mentioned; and its joints should be made of strong tanned hide, and sewn with cords of strong raw silk. And let no one encumber himself with iron bands, for these are very soon broken at the joints or else they become worn out, and consequently it is well not to encumber oneself with them.
