Frank Woods meeting his grand niece | F. Woods and David Mason |
Eighty-year-old Frank never thought David had it in him.
Marriage. Kids. Building a life.
The bastard was always busy.
Frank had watched it all happen from a distance. It filled him with a quiet pride he never admitted out loud.
Without a word, David gently placed three-month-old Savannah into his arms.
"She better not start hollering," Frank grumbled. "I'm too old for that."
Too old to have the patience for a crying baby.
Savannah let out a sleepy little grunt as she settled against his arm, still fast asleep.
"What the hell are you feeding this kid?" He felt the weight immediately.
She was a big baby.
Frank looked down at the sleeping infant. His expression softened before he spoke again.
"You ain't missed a meal, have ya?"
"Don't shame my baby." David couldn't even deny she was bigger than average.
He laughed despite himself. Half the time, picking her up felt like lifting a sack of potatoes. A very precious sack of potatoes.
David had been worried the entire trip.
First, about traveling all the way from Alaska with a three-month-old. Second, about how Frank would react to finally meeting his grandniece.
"I ain't shaming her," Frank replied. "Means she's healthy."
He had never seen a baby with so many rolls.
"She looks like bread basket."
Frank brushed aside the thin strands of blonde hair to get a better look at her face.
Frank studied her face for another moment.
Same face as David.
"Your wife's genes didn't even try."
Poor woman.
A beat passed.
"She did all the heavy lifting just to get a baby that looks like her daddy."
David shook his head, unable to stop smiling.
Frank adjusted Savannah a little more securely in his arms.
"These new-generation babies are different."
He looked down at the little girl, her cheeks resting against his forearm.
"They're all chunky and happy."
Back in his day, babies looked like they were ready to clock in and pay off a mortgage.
Hell, he ought to know.
He'd been one of those little runts.
Life hadn't been easy back then.
Three years later—
"Let me see what you're coloring."
Savanna toddled over, proudly carrying her coloring book.
The three-year-old was staying with him while David and his wife were at the hospital, welcoming another Mason into the world.
Frank looked over the page.
The colors still wandered outside the lines, but they weren't nearly as wild as before.
He recognized the coloring book. It was one of the spare ones he'd swiped from Rocky's room.
He doubted she'd mind.
"You got a bit better," he said. His hand reached out, gently patting Savannah on the head.
"Good kid."
Accidental mini rant regarding Black Ops, oopies
Came back quickly just to say that since bo7’s campaign fucking sucked with how they did my boys (resulting in me becoming a zombies exclusive player) that at this point I’d rather do either a) write my own version or b) do time travel shit just to see young Woods, along with the rest of the bo6 crew, interact with post bo2 David because let that man see his nephew. Sucks that beyond a one off conversation that we never get to hear about Woods’ fear about raising David. Let David see his uncle, frustrated to be restricted to a chair and having to work behind the scenes because of his own mistake leading to Menendez shooting his legs. Matter of fact, let him deal with the Menendez situation, he’s mentioned but it’s recent to both of them, the last time Woods saw David was probably after Panama so he’s pissed and guilty, while David just finished dealing with him, I think Woods would hate how long he got to run free and what happened during that time and would be pissed that David didn’t kill him but proud he stopped him and didn’t let his anger control his actions unlike him. (Even though David kills Menendez i think they deserve the perfect ending, these are my thoughts fuck canon) I want this to be before the reveal that Mason is alive but if it’s after they could do something with that and fuck up Woods even more to find out that the nephew he’s supposed to raise actually ended up being a great guy and great soldier in the future, finally ending being able to bring him peace with probably his biggest regret but also discovering the fact his best friend is alive somewhere. No one knows where he is, not even the grown up version of his nephew but now he has to deal with the relief that he didn’t kill him but also the desperation to find him and confirm it himself and a different kind of guilt regarding him.
Anyway this was supposed to be way shorter than this, like a sentence or two max but I forgot that I have ADHD and kept getting new ideas. I WAS gonna do a section for Zombies since you can play any operator and have David in there and wanted to talk about how he would deal with suddenly dealing with zombies because the in-game dialogue is shit or how he’d interact with any of the 2 zombies crews or who would get along or have interesting interactions with zombies characters like Woods and Dempsey talking about Vietnam and exchanging war stories or Woods catching up with Weaver and mentioning to the others that he and Mason helped save him. Hell, David finding out that the one eyed Russian is Weaver despite looking so young, it would fuck him up because ‘oh my god, both my dad and uncle knew you.’ Another time then.
Back to writers block I go with Mustang and Sally since they’re broken.
I made younger david in tomodachi life and before he eats anything he says “I’m so hungry I could eat reznov”
Look at my ita bag of David

I KNOW I KNOW I AM SORRY
Off dealing with some Life Things for a bit, so my return was preemptive BUT GUESS WHAT I AM BACK NOW and actually writing fic, which is for a birthday gift from MAY so you know. But I do so swear I will have more S&V as my fannish brain kicked back into gear. HOWEVER first you will be subjected to a fic from BLACK OPS because I am writing some Raul Menendez/David Mason, a top tier ship I really need more people to ship! (There needs to be art, c'mon, I know the fanpolice antis or w/e will hate it but if I haven't scared them away years ago with Sefikura and black butler fic, maybe this'll do it, haha).
Anyway I am sitting here watching Black Ops 2 cutscenes -- I've played it but on a borrowed PS3 I no longer have access to ;; -- and I am going to say right now that Raul Menendez, while a silver fox hottie, is committing a very grievous sin by calling himself Odysseus -- A GREEK NAME -- and calling his new world order or whatever Cordis Die, which is LATIN. This is also why I sometimes sigh saying I'm polyamorous, because that's also Greek and Latin smooshed together.
Anyway I know my last fic was a very random Death Stranding thing and I have sixteen fics in drafts, but I got the fannish buzz again so here we are. Except I also fell into the Wire-Wrap Jewelry hobby obsession and...also I'm off my meds for two days, who can tell? (Everyone)
BUT HELLO, who wants to talk about Raul and David? I have a playlist, you're welcome! @x3no9, you gotta be with me on this one, right? I feel like you and I have similar ship loves (if not, can I convince you of this and/or Imran Zakhaev/Russell Adler, wink wink nudge nudge)
(More Graves and Makarov to come do not worry)
(Also I put all these people in that Tomodachi life game and like, you guys. The Price/Makarov love story over there is truly hilarious, but the funniest is how Imran Zakhaev spends most of his days crying over Russell Adler not showing up at the ferris wheel to hear how Zakhaev has feelings for him, this game a joy, lol!)
Cordis Die = Judgement Day
More Black Ops Bullshit
I know I said I was done talking about the Black Ops 2 ending, but I lied.
Part 4
Anyways, let's break down the options one more time
Harper dies or Karma dies
Menendez dies or Menendez is spared
Alex shot in head or Alex shot in leg
Obviously, there is no single ending for BO2 that is cannon, but we can mismatch aspects that were directly affected by the plot to Frankenstein a cannon ending based on what BO7 tells us.
Harper or Karma Dies
Cordis Die did happen, and that cannot happen in an ending in which Chloe lives, because Chloe would stop it. BUT, maybe Chloe didn't die. Maybe she was just incapacitated.
Looking at Chloe's death, she was shot in the head. Not great, however 10% of gunshot brain injuries do actually survive. There are factors that attribute to this, including:
Age
People between 18 to 29 have the highest chance of survival, but risk goes up exponentially after 40. Chloe was 31, so technically not in the golden age range, but not old enough for it to be a liability.
Type of gun
She was shot with a pistol. Unfortunately that leads to a higher rate of mortality. Not great for her.
Location
Obviously, some areas have better medical care than others. Karma is shot in the USS Obama, an aircraft carrier. Naval aircraft carriers in the US do have medical bays equipped to handle severe trauma. She would have access to medical treatment on the ship.
So, we're going to say that she WAS shot, and she simply survived. She usually has either gear or bangs covering the sides of her face, that's how it is possible that she has scars that she is covering up.
So, given the fact that there is a very slim chance Chloe/Karma lived being shot in the head, we're gonna say the ending in which she was shot is cannon. She was incapacitated, and therefore unable to stop the Cordis Die cyber attacks, but she was not dead.
Menendez Killed or Spared
This is confirmed in game. After Menendez is captured, David shot him. He is dead.
Alex Mason Shot in Leg or Head
This one is what really messes me up, because neither ending that we can get for Alex lines up right, thus Frankensteining a new ending.
So, in the ending that Alex lives, he reunites with Woods and David at the care home.
In the ending that Mason dies, Woods and David visit his grave and David says that he is retiring from the Navy.
We know that neither of these things happened because in BO7, David has no memory of an old man Alex and he is still in the Navy Seals.
But, we know that from the ending where Karma dies, Menendez lives, and Alex lives, that if Alex fears he is in danger, he will go back into hiding and will never meet David. So, despite Menendez dying, it is possible that Alex remained in hiding due to Cordis Die. Or maybe he chickened out because he was a shit dad, despite what David wants to think in BO7.
