Ribeye. This is a picture I have long asked for. Others have it, but I wanted one for my own. On this occasion one of the lionesses started behind the rib cage of a fallen buffalo. A hole appeared so we repositioned for a cleaner angle. The hole grew and all that was required was for her to appear in the frame it formed. I think of the twenty minutes or so of opportunity, a couple of seconds only was offered. Maasai Mara 2024

A scrum of spotted hyenas can devour a zebra in less than 30 minutes. They’re good hunters as well as scavengers, with jaws powerful enough to crush large skulls and stomachs that can digest bones. As a result of their diet, their droppings are so mineral rich that they’re chalky white.

and after that there were no roses.
Recently read v for vendetta and i have a lot of thoughts on it. For this one, i was thinking of how he gave all the people from larkhill he killed a rose, and valerie’s (his) hope that someday people will have roses—love, freedom, happiness—again. Despite what they did to him, how they tortured him, despite his killing them, he still gives them their roses. Even if only symbolically. Perhaps he is “freeing” them from themselves. Who knows what goes on his mind though.
