On July 17, at least 33 Indigenous Hawai’ian elders and others were arrested while defending the Mauna Kea volcano from construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) project. Gov. David Ige then declared a State of Emergency to ramp up repression against the land defenders.

Ige was asked about that delay when he met with reporters after his State of the State address today, and he said that “I was in the process of making calls to the leadership team both in Hawaii Emergency Management as well as others.”

David Ige Signs 3 Pro-LGBTQ Bills for Hawaii

David Ige, the governor of Hawaii, signed three new bills to support the state’s LGBTQ community last Thursday. House Bill 2405 requires health insurers to include medically necessary gender affirming care in their regular coverage.
