Road To Avonlea - Season 6, ep. 10 (Home Is Where The Heart Is)

so I watched the finale while fighting a fever - quite fitting I guess since gilbert was also almost dying from one haha

also I reread the last two chapters of anne of the island in preparation for the finale so I noticed some changes:

when anne rejected roy, I thought that that was the last we would ever see of him. so please imagine my utter surprise when he appeared ON HORSEBACK. IN ANNE'S ROOM. that did NOT happen in the book and I was like WTF

oh also I love that we can hear (or I guess in my case read the subtitles of) marilla telling davey to not tell anne about gilbert, and then he immediately tells her - ahhh davey never change haha

anne running to gilbert's house and sitting next to his bed!! I am pretty sure that wasn't in the book, but when gilbert opened his eyes, I was like omigod is he going to see anne???

so in the book, anne says that she has to prepare for jane's wedding so she and gilbert go on their walk the day after and she wears a green dress similar to the one she was fixing. in the show, she decides the dress could wait, and they go on the walk together right away. I get why they wanted to condense it, but I was lowkey hoping to see anne in the green dress haha

and finally the proposal! before this episode, I was trying to figure out if the proposal would take place on the bridge or at the apple tree bc they didn't find hester’s garden in the show. but of course it was at the apple tree when it was full of blossoms! it was an absolutely gorgeous scene and I may or may not have teared up when they finally kissed. this proposal is my all time favorite fictional proposal, and I can't believe I finally get to see it animated and adapted beautifully on the screen!

but I think my absolute favorite surprise was the ending credits - they changed it for this final episode!! and we get to see a mini epilogue!!! none of this was in the book (the book ends with their kiss and them walking home) so to see them visiting matthew's grave and coming home to green gables to be greeted by everyone (including diana and fred!) was the absolute perfect way to end the show. I was tearing up and clapping my hands in delight

and finally I want to thank everyone who has been on this journey of watching the show. it has been an absolute joy to see everyone's reactions/thoughts/gifsets/edits/etc every week. this show has lasted for several months, and I haven't experienced anything like this in forever since shows these days are like eight episodes max and/or dropped in a binge format. so it has been lots of fun to just experience these 24 episodes one week at a time
