Renault Dauphine, 1960
A portrait of Marie Adelaide of Savoy, famous as the mother of Louis XV.
She was the eldest child of Anne Marie d'Orleans and Victor Amadeus II, and her birth was a very difficult one:
Marie Adelaide was the Duchess's firstborn, and made her appearance in the world on December 6th, 1685. The little lady's arrival nearly cost her mother her life ; indeed, Anne's condition was at one time so critical that the viaticum was administered.
The viaticum is when the Eucharist is administered to someone while they are dying, as part of the last rites. Her mother did survive, and would give birth to seven more children. Only 3 of those, including Marie Adelaide, would live to adulthood.
