Verinius is honestly far too sincere and far too much of a dumbass to do things with actual malicious intent :D He doesn't believe in the Maker, but doesn’t believe in the Old Gods either. He openly practises blood magic and his pedantry and tendency to ramble mean that some people feel harassed just by having him around.

Most of the trouble he gets into is self-inflicted. I mean… bad impulse control, bad timing, bad judgment... There was one incident where he seriously injured fellow students who were trying to bully him. He escalated badly and it went wrong for everyone involved. Even nowadays, his magic tends to overload and he unintentionally manages to set things on fire through stray static discharges. This used to be worse tho xD

A good chunk of the rest can be blamed on Alectris. Like the day she claimed he wouldn't be able to copy a very specific signature perfectly. Unfortunately, that hit his pride and he forged an important document out of pure stubbornness. Alec took the document and V still gets nervous when he thinks about it. She never told him what it was used for.

The manslaughter thing is technically correct as the Circle trained him to become a Battlemage before he became Verixsus' aide. So, the mage is responsible for heavy losses among the followers of Ghilan’nain and Elgar’nan. Most of the time tho, he's at the Lighthouse, keeping the ledgers, scribbling notes about ways to make his spells more efficient and daydreaming about Neve ❤️
