Protector
On the island, Helen must protect her children from all threats. It becomes more difficult when her middle child has an aptitude for running into danger.
Contains talk of death and dying, fearing for ones life, and regret. Nobody dies in this fic.
Sorry, this ended up being more Violet focused than intended.

It was the heat of battle. Helen had to admit she missed this, as she knocked out yet another guard. But then she noticed a blur running straight into the fray.
"Violet! Shield your brother!" Helen shouted, before realizing that Violet was currently... occupied. "Dash!"
Dash was in very real danger. Helen's heart dropped as she watched him, launching herself toward him. He had a gun aimed at his head and he didn't even seem to notice. Helen scooped him up, knocking out the guard aiming at him.
"Hey-" Dash started, before suddenly everything went quiet. Helen couldn't move. Dash wasn't trying to wiggle away. Something was very, very wrong.
"Woah, woah, hey, time out!" A voice shouted. "Elastigirl... You married Elastigirl!?"
The red-haired stranger then looked to her kids. If she could move, she'd punch him out, but alas, she was caught in a blue beam, keeping her boy safe.
"And got BUSY!"
Helen rolled her eyes a bit at this, despite the situation.

The incident wasn't spoken of until weeks after. Helen heard a soft sobbing in the night. She had to investigate. She knew it couldn't have been Jack-Jack, who cried at full volume no matter what. She first checked Dash's room. He was asleep. She then moved to Violet's room, slowly pushing the door open.
"Vi?"
Violet startled, then did something that Helen was thoroughly surprised by. Violet launched herself at her mother, hugging tightly like she had when she was 5 years old and had a nightmare.
"Shhh. You're ok, sweetie," Helen cooed, hugging her eldest close. She guided Violet back to her bed, still hugging her close. "What's going on?"
Violet took a few moments to get her thoughts together. "Mom- I... I was thinking about- about what happened on the island."
Helen nodded, understanding. There were many things that happened in those two days which no kid should have to experience. She'd been awake with Dash several times. She knew Violet had been affected too, but she was much better at hiding it.
"If-if you hadn't been there, mom... He would've gotten killed. I should've been faster, I-I'm supposed to-"
"Violet, no. That was... You were never supposed to be in that kind of situation. You're a kid, too," Helen explained. She regretted all the times she'd told Violet she was the bigger sibling, that she had a responsibility to keep her brother safe. She realizes now that this line of thinking could've gotten Violet killed. "I'm here to keep you two safe. I should've never put that on you."
Violet still clung to Helen's robe, sobbing softly.
"It's over now, honey. I... I won't make promises I can't keep, but... if I can help it, you'll never be in that position again," Helen promised. "I never want you to have to choose between your life and your brothers."
Violet nodded.
"Can... Can you sleep here tonight, mom?" Violet asked.
"Of course I can."
