Darius Mitchell in the Donutverse is inspired by Jensen Atwood.
Darius is Irene Tibideaux’s cousin, but she calls her Auntie, because the age difference is such that she essentially raised him. He grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and had a son, Elijah, in July 2000, whom he seldom sees.
Darius is an itinerant performer, and doesn’t stay in one place for long.
He and Toby and Will have a brief romantic relationship the summer he comes to Cleveland and plays Collins in RENT. After that, he and Will and Toby continue to connect as lovers and friends for many years.
In the fall of the boys’ junior year, Darius helps Irene open a new coffeehouse in Lima, the Lima Bean. Darius gives Puck a job washing dishes.
In the spring, Darius and Will and Toby are invited by April Rhodes to perform off-Broadway in a production about her life.
After the production fails, Toby and Darius return to Ohio and work as counselors at Baldwin-Wallace’s performing arts summer camp. Mike, Finn, and Kurt attend the camp and have opportunities to talk with Darius.
