I agree with you about the pacing and letting the characters breathe. I made my own post about it earlier. I think they’ve been suffocated by having 13 episodes. With such a plot heavy show, even having two or three more episodes, they’d have more time and space for character development and some more of these plot-less beats.
Lbr, no matter how many episodes they'd get, they'd do the same thing (i.e. they'd just add more plot), imo it has nothing to do with the number of episodes.
They just want to squeeze in too much plot, while being afraid of letting "slower" moments play out. That doesn't always mix well. And with these last two episodes in particular, they even "invented" struggles for some of the characters (So. Many. Pep Talks. OMG), and these scenes took up time/space, that could've been dedicated to slower, more emotional moments (like the Malex/handana scene).
Not to mention all the science babble this season. They spent endless minutes of precious screentime on talking about fake science, I wish they would've skipped a minute or two of that in favor of a full length Malex couch scene.
Or, y'know, spent less time on the millionth pep talk for the same 4 characters and instead had developed a relationship between Isobel and Anatsa that deserves the label "relationship".
Or they could've cut short some things and instead added on-screen moments like "freeing Max from the pod and his reaction to being body-swapped with Jones" or "Michael checking in on Sanders and making sure he's not dead".
Or instead of wasting time on redeeming Wyatt, they could've given Gregory a personality.
Sometimes they tend to skip over things we'd like to see explored more while dragging out things most people couldn't care less about. (Like Liz didn't have to explain in-depth how to science Max and Jones' DNA apart in every single episode. It's a show about aliens, handwave that kind of shit, and give us emotionally more relevant and interesting scenes).
I'm also still wondering what Maria's visions, that kept them going for the first half of the season were actually about, bc this HUGE storyline was suddenly dropped completely and never talked about again. ¯\_(°~°)_/¯
IDK, there are so many (often little) things that could've been handled/timed better.
I still think that S3's way better than S2, and I adore the new cast edition of Dallas. Like, he's legit one of my favorite characters already, and Quentin Plair is an absolute pleasure to watch.
But I also wish they wouldn't continue repeating some of the same mistakes that were annoying in S1 and S2 already.
Anyway, S3's done, and overall it's been a fun ride. And I couldn't be more grateful for a mostly "happy ending" for the characters - which should make the hiatus more fun. :)
ldfhlgd They've got quite a few bad ones but I think my "favorite" bad one is their last kiss. Mr. Ryan Hawley knew that Robert was turning himself in and was likely going to be his last kiss with Aaron and put in no effort to make it passionate. dklfjhldg My actual favorite kisses are the pre-SSW pub kiss (duh), the first wedding dance kiss, the second wedding gazebo kiss, and the two reunion kisses.
gfcjk
listen mr hawley was probably very emotional, that’s why it’s a sad kiss rather than a.. passionate one
Ben loves their height difference. He loves having to stand on tip toes to kiss Callum, loves when Callum just picks him up & deposits him on the counter or table when they’re making out in the kitchen or the Arches, loves how Callum becomes a human blanket/pillow when they’re curled up on the bed or the couch. Unfortunately, Callum loves kissing Ben when he’s sitting & Ben is standing, so Callum has to tip his head up to meet Ben’s lips. Luckily, they do enough kissing to have it both ways.
melissa!!! yes i love this!!! height difference is much a weakness of mine and callum and ben really take it to the next level! luckily they always do enough kissing to have it both ways - every single way!!!! so anyway, i’m going to need some (a lot) more kisses asap so we can test this theory a little more. it’s for Science™️
danrdarrenc replied to your post “And what KILLS me is that Stuart was the first person Callum has told!...”
I’m disappointed in Stuart tbh. I thought he’d be okay as long as Callum was happy, mostly because the father is evil. Callum can’t have two evil homophobic relatives, can he? Apparently he can.
RIGHT???? Give both Ben and Callum a break!! I was really hoping it wouldn’t be Stuart just because JFC how many family members can Callum not trust? I’m so MAD that Callum put himself out there and essentially came out to his brother in some fashion and then *this*

danrdarrenc replied to your post: I know I don’t go here anymore and my opinion...
I haven’t watched yet but I think my dash told me the surrogacy is over/not getting started.
i don’t follow many emmerdale blogs anymore so i didn’t see that all. it’s so stupid. they’re wasting a really great story. plus it gives a popular character a child.
I think the date was June 30th. It was really just the one scene in the beginning when they talked about going to the Amalfi coast. - But the scene with Ari was cute too. :) thanks
