This came to me in a vision-
Mister Lancer: And if we’re really quiet, maybe we’ll hear a young deer calling out for its parent.
Danny Phantom: *walks out of the woods and into the clearing the class is observing* DAD!! WHERE’D YOU GO?!
Danny, to Lancer: My grades and overall health are getting worse by the day, but the crows have accepted me as their leader, so at least I have that going for me.
Any fic recommendations of Lancer and Danny? I require Lancer to notice something wrong with Danny because his grades are suddenly slipping and he’s passing out in class, which he never did before, so he starts trying to get to the bottom of the problem. Wether or not he finds out he’s Phantom, it would be really nice to think of Danny being allowed in his office at any time to do homework by himself or something, and Danny takes him up on that offer and starts showing up after school to do just that.
My favorite thing to think of is Danny making “connections” in stories that Lancer didn’t notice before because of his unbelievable amount of space knowledge and genuinely impressing him. Example: Lancer offhandedly admitting he doesn’t know why a character was named Polaris. Danny takes a quick read and explains what the Polaris star is that, and that the character is likely called that due to their ability to lead the others even during the darkest times.
Basically, as long as those “What does this mean?” questions in English are somehow related to space, Danny will likely nail them.
“Phantom?” Lancer spoke up. The ghost teen made an odd sound similar to a crackle and opened an eye response. The bean bag chair shifted as he moved to sit up from his previously curled up position. If it was any other ghost, Lancer would’ve either froze or ran under the gaze of those glowing green eyes, but his brain no longer recognized them as a threat.
“If you don’t mind me asking, why do you come to my office everyday to nap? I don’t have an issue with it, as you know, but I’m rather curious.” Lancer asked.
Phantom stretched his arms up. Surprisingly, there were a few pops. Why he had bones despite being a ghost was anyone’s guess.
Safe. He signed.
The young ghost was unable to speak English. He understood it perfectly well, but it seemed his verbal skills were limited to ghost speak. Lancer took it upon himself to start teaching him sign language so that he could communicate without always needing a notebook and pencil. They’d only recently started, so Phantom’s knowledge on it was fairly limited.
The response made Lancer raise an eyebrow.”Safe?” He questioned. Phantom signed the word again and pointed at him. “I’m safe?” Lancer asked. Phantom smiled and nodded, then opened his mouth. What came out sounded like a howling wind, but Phantom repeating the word again in sign language gave him the context clue the teacher needed to understand what it meant in ghost speak.
Lancer smiled.”Well, as a teacher, I have to not only help my students learn, but also keep them safe. It doesn’t matter to me if they’re human or ghost.” He said. Phantom smiled. He soon curled back up to return to his nap, which was well deserved after a long day of ghost fighting. Something told Lancer that he was unaware of the faint purring sound coming from the boy. If he was, he was sure to blush green in embarrassment and try to cover it up.

You know what I love? When kids say something to adults that they didn’t know about in a certain subject. When the student is the teacher for the teacher.
Now imagine Lancer giving the class an assignment; write about something you’re passionate about. Danny came in next week with 10 printed papers going into great detail about astrophysics. When Danny fell asleep again, Lancer said nothing.
Thinking about Lancer helping Danny through a panic attack when a lightning storm rolled around while he had detention. Feeling good.
Here’s an idea for Phantom and Lancer interacting.
Phantom places a paper on Lancer’s desk with some kind of translation key from English letters to something akin to constellations for letters. Lancer was confused at first, but he managed to figure out that it’s a language the ghost kid made up on his own, and now he’s sharing the knowledge with him.
One day, Lancer’s reviewing Danny’s paperwork. At the very bottom, in that same language, he wrote “Thanks for being a cool teacher. Not everyone lets a half ghost chill in their office. Don’t tell my parents, please.”
You know, coffee hurts a little when you spit it out.
