The Barnes giving Taylor the stink eye after Emma died is so funny to me. Like yeah they're grieving, but that shit is almost entirely on them.
I've always thought they knew about the bullying from pretty early on. Emma's parents were active in her life in a way Taylor's dad just wasn't. I don't buy them not noticing Emma cutting Taylor out and occasionally overhearing how she'd talk about her. I don't think they knew immediately or the full extent of it, but I don't think they wanted to either.
They were happy to have her leaving her room again, grateful the problem seemed to have solved itself. They could have forced her to see a therapist, they could have given her miraculous recovery a second look, and they could have paid more attention to her changes in behavior. But why make a problem out of nothing.
Little by little they let things get worse. Emma's completely flipped on Taylor? Kid's friendships don't always last, it's no big deal. Emma's saying increasingly nasty things? Schoolyard taunting isn't the end of the world, the other students will get over it. Every step pushed out of mind by their desire to not worry or interfere.
It's hard to believe they didn't know what Emma thought of Taylor. Kids aren't nearly as subtle as they think they are, and it's impossible for them to not pick up on some of the things she said or did over the past year and a half. But hey, kids can be cruel and they don't need to fuss about what Emma gets up to as long as she's ok.
When Taylor was in the psych ward and Danny called Alan to see if Emma knew anything about what had happened, I don't think he bothered to check. Just hung up the phone, waited a few minutes, and called back to say she didn't. He knew better than to ask questions he might not want the answers to.
What's your go to theory for what happen3d to Taylor after gold morning? I think she's just dead.
That's a bit of a three answer question.
I think you can argue that Taylor Hebert died and is experiencing the genuine after life.
I think you can argue that Taylor Hebert lived and is now on Aleph, probably living life as a chef or cook.
I think what is fact is that Taylor lives on in Shardspace. We see her in Aiden's crystal. We know she appeared in Victoria's shardspace. She likely exists in all the living Undersiders (and the dead) Shards in some capacity. Hell, since Danny is connected to QA, she and he would be existing together and his information on her would be the Shardspace as well.
Perhaps that is the epilogue. Danny and Taylor sharing a reality, their combined data creating the life they needed for each other; support and growth, together as a second chance.
Alec showed up as a cameo, because despite being a huge asshole, he always did care about Taylor (or tried to at least) and wanted to check on her
after reflecting on the worm ending, i think it's... idk it's fitting that wildbow lets taylor go. like i havent read ward but i assume the remaining undersiders and everyone else go through 3499328092 more torments. but taylor's done her piece and now she just gets to be happy. she just gets to exist and explore what it means to be a normal person in a way she couldnt when she had powers and before that. she gave everything she had and now she's free.
and there's a lot to say abt the differences between what life on aleph would be like as opposed to bet! barely any powered people. relatively normal society. taylor doesnt have her powers. but rn im thinking abt how danny was sent to aleph with taylor almost as an afterthought. an accessory. he's mentioned and we barely see him and taylor literally thought he was dead up until he got shipped off to aleph w her. and that's another big difference that i find really interesting. at the start of worm, danny is pretty... useless. he can't do much to help taylor and as taylor gets more involved in cape life he can't do much to stop her either. wildbow does highlight this! we see taylor and danny processing taylor's identity being revealed & her crimes being emphasized. but there's never enough downtime to really explore that. there's not enough time to discuss it all because things are always happening. and when there was time it's a timeskip so we get nothing from that.
but now on aleph they're entering a world where taylor still being eighteen means something. she's practically still a kid. she's expected to rely on her parents for a lot by society, and being on her own here isnt something she can just solve with her powers. up until now her powers granted her her independence! being a cape is what helped her feel like her own person. and not only that but she has a disability now. and danny is also just the only person who knows her and who she is and shares her experiences so like. i have to think that moving to aleph together would bring them together again and lead to a LOT of complicated feelings! taylor is transitioning to being a teenager again and being someones daughter again. danny is a father again but also a father to a teenager who saved the world and was practically a god for a moment and is intensely traumatized and is now separated from all her friends forever and has no powers and is also getting used to a new disability. so like yeah that's probably wild.
i dont rlly have a point with all this i just think it must be wild. the silences are heavy and they probably talk around a bunch of shit and theyre both traumatized and everything is so complicated and impossible. wow.

Remembered this old thing
He climbed into the left side of the bed, leaving the right side empty out of a habit he’d yet to break, and pulled the covers up around himself.
He would talk to Taylor in the morning. Get an answer of some sort.
He dreamed of the ocean.
