I think I've reached a problematic level of yearning for banter if I'm attracted to Daniel Fucking Cleaver. Like what do you mean I'm attracted to the way this man argues and acts like a prick.
Send help.
Or send Daniel Cleaver.
Or be Daniel Cleaver adjacent.
I'm at my wit's end.

Daniel meets Mark in Cambridge and decides —without ever saying it out loud— that he will be important. But everything Daniel considers important eventually turns into a game, and Mark was no exception. That’s why he provokes him, challenges him, hurts him, as if that were the only way to keep him close. He was his best man, slept with his wife, and never stopped interfering in his life. Not because he hated him, but because he never knew what else to do with something he didn’t understand. His entire life became a way of not losing him. And, precisely because of that, he never stopped doing it.
REPOSTING SOME OF MY OLD STUFF plus a new doodle heh i remembered these two existed
Bridget Jones's Diary is an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice in the loosest possible sense... but if there's one thing that the films, at least, capture incredibly well, it's how handsome and charming the Wickham character is...
It's often forgotten that, according to the novel, Wickham is meant to be even better looking than Darcy. Plus, when he enters the Phillipses' party and sits next to Elizabeth and then spends a good chunk of the evening talking to her everyone in the room is jealous!!! I haven't seen a P&P adaptation (apart from Death Comes to Pemberley) that has ever captured that as well as Hugh Grant does as Daniel Cleaver in Bridget Jones.
He's so charming that you as the audience are equally as taken in by him as Bridget is, and no matter how many times I've seen it, I still feel so disappointed when he turns out to be a total scumbag. He seems like the complete package and the perfect antidote to the haughty Darcy character, but obviously first impressions can be misleading and it does turn out that a man who was incredibly insulting to you during your first meeting can actually be the right person for you!!

daniel cleaver was based on tony blair i will die on this hill
Watching bridget jones mad about the boy for the first time after my mum begging me to watch it...why didnt she end up with my man daniel 🥀
Let’s talk about Bridget Jones Diary and love triangles
I’m not here to say it was a st inspiration, simply to point out how actual love triangles work and are showed in film, using a famous example.
I’ve just seen Bridget Jones Diary today (definitely check it out, no one makes romcoms like in the late 90s/early 00s anymore, except Casey McQuiston) and it’s crazy getting reminded of how love triangle imagery actually works. Like, it’s not just my tumblr echo chamber, it’s literal movie directors! That’s just how love triangles go!
Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy want to date Bridget Jones. Bridget starts dating Daniel, but ends up eventually with Mark, who loves her just the way she is (and this is specified, several times. Bridget is also kinda insecure and thinks she needs to change several things about herself, but worry not because Mark Darcy loves her just the way she is).
Some things that tell us since the start who Bridget is ACTUALLY going to end up with:
1) Mark Darcy appears first
2) Mark Darcy and her knew each other when they were children (they’re not particularly childhood friends, but there do is shared history)
3) Daniel appears after Mark has already appeared, and Bridget is already crushing on him from the get-go
3) Bridget and Daniel date pretty quickly into the movie (so the fact that there’s a lot of the movie left tells us more things are gonna happen)
4) Bridget and Daniel’s relationship moves pretty quickly (they have a lot of sex. That’s practically all they do, honestly)
5) There is a little of power imbalance between Bridget and Daniel (Daniel, although he treats her as an equal, is her boss)
That’s basically byler vs mileven.
There’s also Bridget dating Daniel until she discovers Daniel is engaged to another woman, who Daniel refers to as “thinner” and “younger” (he doesn’t love Bridget exactly as she is).
Mark then swops in and tells her that
(Will loving Mike exactly as he is, unlike El)
Bridget and Mark have a lovely time together
(They also bond over cooking fails)
It really looks like it could lead up to something…
Until Daniel shows up and…
Then Daniel and Mark get into a literal, physical fight (Will and El don’t do this, thankfully) and Bridget and Daniel break things off for good
(Mileven breaking up in s5)
Bridget is mad at Mark (because he got into a literal fight for no reason + she believes he cheated on his ex wife with Daniel’s ex-fiancé) but then, when she discovers the truth (he didn’t do anything, his ex wife cheated on him with Daniel) she lets herself pursue a relationship with him.
(The painting, Mike probably figuring it out Will lied and being mad, but then when he discovers Will is in love with him and why he lied about the painting he forgives him)
But, Bridget discovers Mark is close to getting engaged with someone else and probably gonna move to New York, so she’s sad and runs away. Except Mark chases after her, decides not to go to New York and chooses to be with her (after finding out her feelings)
Then…
