My lovely student, Margaret, preparing to perform Cha Cha next Saturday at Beaverton's 'Fun Over 50' event. I've been training Margaret for almost 5 years now. I can remember her walking in to the studio with a mild curve in her back and a slight limp for her first lesson with me. She has worked her ass off, training her technique and doing thousands of pliés and Rumba walks. She has competed American Rhythm and Smooth and International Latin with me in cities across the country (literally! Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Tampa Bay, Columbus). Next month she will celebrate her 80th birthday and I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to work with this wonderful woman. My favorite story of working with her: Margaret came in for her lesson with a huge smile on her face and proudly announced to me that she had put her pants on while still standing up. It had apparently been a long time since she'd been able to balance well enough to do that without sitting down. All of the 'dancer' muscles we'd been working out had given her back that balance and power.
