lemon tang - hearts2hearts: autotuned to hell and back, expertly mixed to scrub their voices of any personality they might have managed to imbue in the raw audio. it’s particularly egregious when you get to “rude!” at the end of the ep. the difference is so stark.
“lemon tang” had a such a cute first prechorus, i cannot for the life of me fathom why they would go for that boring, ugly chorus instead of continuing that. it’s actually upsetting to listen to. you could have been good!!! why aren’t you good!!!!!
other than that, for the most part, it’s just painfully generic. “처음투성이 (baby steps)” is tolerable i guess. it’s giving jpop a little bit but not really interesting. “heart emoji (♡)” just barely manages to make the jump to what i call idolcore (see “네모네모” and “캐치캐치” - yena, “天使のクローバー” - more more jump!, “안녕 (hello)” - joy for other examples) …but not enough that i’m putting it in the playlist. also, i would bet money that “secret recipe” was a red velvet reject. i can see why they rejected it.
i wanted to like lemon tang, but unfortunately it’s just not good. “rude!” is the only song that i feel comfortable saying i like. they’re talented girls, all i can do is hope sm will do better next time. 2/5
