..::Update::.. Bull Dog Blues.
13 years ago, I posted a story about how I recorded Fred McDowell in 1971, singing to Tom Pomposello's guitar accompaniment. And how, 25 years later, Tom and David Baron used one of those tracks to make βsacrilege!β a contemporary dance track. I updated it earlier this year to say that later this year we're going to release a limited edition 12", while adding a 2026 remix (here's my Substack post about it).
I also posted the sample covers, both generated, and then worked on by me, by AI. Then the shit hit the fan. At least, on Instagram.
βββLet me cut to the chase: I'm not using those covers, and my old friend and colleague, Carlos Ramos, has been commissioned. See the early sample above.βββ
Substackers and LinkedIn-ers loved it, love the covers too. But, at IG, where most of my followers are fans of my cartoon career, people went nuts. Many artists, of any age, have a lot of issues with AI. Understandable, in many ways. There are a lot of things questionable about generated AI images, namely what have the models trained on.
I get it. I have a different point of view, I figure it's here, we better get used to it, like all new tech. I think the issues eventually get worked out; whether we like the work out or not, the new tech is always here to stay.
That said, I love those IG followers I have. They're the ones who have love my shows, they're the one that have made them the icons that they are. So, I have no interest in upsetting them, no matter my personal POV.
So, like I said below, I've commissioned a fantastic artist help design new covers. (Not for nothing, with the exact same "prompts" I gave to AI.) He's already doing a great job.
I'll let you all know when the LP is released and where to get it.
