Mississippi River – Day 10

Today was Monday, June 7, 2021. I slept in a little today. I didn’t get on the river until 7:30 am, one of my latest starts so far. Before I left camp I rousted Brian and Jackson up so that I could get a selfie with them. I should have gotten a photo last night, but didn’t, and I may not see them again so it was now or never. Bunny: Who do you look up to in your life, and why? The person who always comes to mind with this question unfortunately passed away last year, but a man I always called Uncle Dan. He used to stay with us when we lived in Lima when he would come through. He was a passionately curious man, and he put that curiosity to great use. He struggled with depression, and still managed to be incredibly dedicated and uplifting to everyone around him. He lived out in the jungle in the Amazon with a tribe called the Achuar. He taught them how to fish farm, how to make electricity out of what they had available, he made sure they weren't being taken advantage of by the government. He was incredible. He died in his 50's. The world lost a good one, and I didn't get to say goodbye.

Today is Sunday, July 4, 2021. Today is a zero day for me. My wife met me at Quincy, IL early yesterday afternoon and we spent the night at the Stoney Creek Inn here in Gem City.
