Chapter 1
Idea and summary
Next Chapter
Another sleepless night, full of tossing and turning, until Bela couldn't take it anymore and decided to abandon all hope of getting some rest. She got up into a sitting position on her bed, with her back leaning against the headboard. She folded her legs close to her body, the blanket still covering them, and she wrapped her arms around them, resting her head on her knees. It's the same every night. Sure, she will play it off like nothing is happening around other people, but it's those silent moments at night, when her head touches the pillow, the reality sets in, and she realizes that the time is ticking by and that every single second is bringing her closer to the inevitable moment she's supposed to repay her debt.
And every time she would close her eyes, the haunting images of her past and the things she did to save herself wouldn't let her mind rest. She thought that she would get used to it by now, and would have no problem falling asleep, but when you make a deal with a demon you know better and you cherish every moment you have. The moonlight danced over the hills visible from her apartment window, a few rays sliding through the white curtains, her figure still, the only sound in the room being her breath and a few sniffles here and there as a couple stray tears slip from her eyes. At the time, she thought it was the best solution to her problem. She just couldn't take it anymore, all the abuse was sending her on a path to madness if she didn't quickly do something about it.Â
And having been introduced to the world of the darkness and demons, seeing no other way out, she took that deal and hasn't looked back for a very long time. Now, given that she's a lot older and has been through so much in her life, becoming a con artist and thief, she would often find herself lost in her own thoughts, wondering if there was possibly another way out of the situation she was in, but due to being so young and desperate, she made the choice that ultimately damned her for the rest of her life. Well, if she doesn't find a way to repay that debt, there is not a lot of "the rest of her life" left. There could be a way to make that payment and get the demons off her back, but should she take the shot? She's got nothing to lose after all, if she doesn't try every angle, she's gonna end up getting dragged to hell anyway, but that doesn't mean that she loves the idea of hurting someone else to save herself.
She has spent all this time convincing herself that she does, that from the moment she had her parents killed, she has lost all compassion of others, but deep down, she knew that wasn't true. Sure, she will never let anyone else know that, but she does, no matter how much she tries to hide it. It was about three weeks ago when Bela heard two vampire/werewolf hybrids talking about deals with demons. I guess they had their own ones to deal with, but the information they shared was way too useful to her, that she was maybe a little less careful than she normally is in order to be able to hear every single word out of their mouths. According to the hybrids, the blood of a doppelgänger is what is needed to break the deal. Sacrifice. Bela knew that her doppelgänger had to be somewhere out there, she just had to be. And the more she thought about it the more she was ready to head out in search for her.
At least she'd have another reason to stay awake at night, not just the fear of reality. Maybe that fades for a while as she's focused on getting out of it all? It wouldn't hurt more to try and save herself, she thought and got up from bed, turning on the lights and getting a bag out of her closet, filling it neatly with her clothes and all the necessary items for her journey. She honestly didn't even know where to start, but she has seen that there is this town, called Mystic Falls, that had plenty of "animal attacks" recently. There is no way that many animal attacks were taking place in such a small town.
There has to be something going on there. Something supernatural. And she was hoping that at least one of the vampires out there or any other creature knows about her doppelgänger. She went to a witch just a few days after finding out what needed to be done to save her soul and the witch told her only the name. Rose-Marie. There has to be someone who knows her, and Bela was determined to find it out. The foggy image, etched in smoke that the witch projected in front of her, contained the way her doppelgänger might look.
She didn't trust this witch enough to fully believe that was what she looks like, as Bela knew this particular which was prone to scamming people into going on a suicide mission and then feeding off their energy, and that was, in a way keeping her from taking the first step, but every time she would look at a clock, Bela would realize that her time is just slipping and that it was time she does something about it. So she got her things in the trunk of her car and got in. Sighing deeply, she started the engine and officially started her journey.
---***--- Sorry it took so long to get this out, I had to deal with so many exams that I just couldn’t get into the right mindset to write at all, but here is the first chapter of The doppelgänger fanfiction. I really hope you like it, and will stick with me as I try to sort out my exams, other college stuff and writing so much, when my inspiration runs freely. Basically, I’m gonna be updating this fic slowly, as I focus more on college and everything, but whenever I have some free time, or during summer break, I’ll try and post a lot more often. If you want to add any input into the story let me know :)
