Like Father, Like Daughter - Damaso and Maria Clara getting sick
Damaso, Ch 30: The Day of the Fiesta
Maria Clara, Ch 43: The Espadañas
.
.
They both got covered in some aromatic oils and wrapped in blankets LOL
Damaso drank kinutil, milk, chocolate. He also ate cookies.
Meanwhile Maria Clara was prescribed
Lichen with Milk - lichens were also used to treat all sorts of conditions in traditional medicine (no approved therapeutic claims)
Marshmallow Syrup - Medicine made from Marshmallow Root Althaea officinalis, used for dry coughs and sore throat (no approved therapeutic claims)
2 pills of Hound's tooth compound - cynoglossa pills, Cynoglossum officinale, used to treat all sorts of stuff (no approved therapeutic claims)
Aren't all of these foreign herbs? There are a lot of effective herbal medicines in the Philippines (the friars compiled books about them throughout the colonial period) but I think Tiburcio de Espadana was only giving her European ones (with no approved therapeutic claims). This guy was real bonafide quack
BTW Maria Clara's medical bill was apparently some thousands of pesos wtf.
