So last year, I wrote and published a Dousy fic (my second ever and first for aos) in honor of the 4th anniversary of As I Have Always Been. I was inspired upon watching the Marvel’s Slingshot web series about Yo-Yo, when a connection between something that occurs in the little series and something from the final season became clear. And given this series came out a few years BEFORE the 7th was even written, my fangirl self may or may not have giggled at upon coming to the realization. Thus, this little one-shot was born. And in honor of the 5th anniversary of the episode and for Dousy Appreciation Week: Day 4 - Stories, I (attempted) to create my first real Tumblr post and GIF set to celebrate. I’ve also included a link for my silly little fic, for anyone that does seem interested in reading it.

Notes: This is going to be another series, and it's one of my favorites, it'll be mostly fluff, and joy, the timeline may just be a tad inaccurate, regarding AOS, but I hope y'all enjoy it!

You’re walking into Coulson Academy, with your army duffle bag slung over your shoulder, sighing as you stand in front of the in-memoriam sign. You still have no idea who your parents were, just that they were ‘supposedly’ S.H.I.E.L.D agents, but you only have their first names to go off of. According to the documents you’ve been able to hack your way into, their first names are Daisy & Daniel. But, only Daniel has an actual fucking available birthday. Obviously, you do have adoptive parents, but there’s always been something wrong with you. You’ve just never been able to figure out exactly what, or why. Now, you just have to hope you’re in the right place to find out exactly what happened, and why you are the way you are.

As you’re thinking all this, you hear your mentor, and Professor, Melinda May walk in with someone else.

“May, why the hell did you bring us here? It’s been 5 years, I don’t-” Daisy starts before seeing who she’s pointing at, and looks at her more confused than she was before, “Coulson didn’t want to tell either of you, in hopes that it would give the kid a chance at a normal life, outside of all of this. And, it was working, until now. But, that’s also why he tasked me with keeping an eye on her. And no, we don't know how it happened.” she sighs, and hands Daisy & Daniel a document—a document from 2002—detailing the birth of a baby girl, with their names redacted from it.  “Daisy, Daniel, that's your–” she starts, before being interrupted by the girl.

You turn around when you hear both their names, and immediately rush over, “Daisy…? Daniel…? You can’t be–” you mutter, and you can see the same shock wash over their faces as well. “Kid, what year were you born..?” the guy asks you, and you click your tongue & breathe in before responding, “2002”.

“So, what you’re saying is, we had a daughter in 2002, in this timeline, correct?” Daniel asks, and May shakes her head in agreement, “I’m assuming then, that you don’t know how she ended up not being raised by us” he concludes, and May sighs, “Considering you are on the in-memoriam wall—which thank God she doesn’t know your last name—and are supposed to have died, that’s one question we still have yet to figure out. But, if it helps you two at all, she is disgustingly educated, to the point Mack wanted us to poach her out of high school, and I had to talk him out of it, per Coulson’s request. Because, at the time, we didn’t need to give that kid more reason to ask questions & draw attention to herself.” “How’d that work out?” Daisy retorts while chuckling, “Not great, she literally joined the military, for the sole purpose of finding out more information on you two, and nearly got expelled for trying to do that same thing in her high school.” May groans, while pointing for the kid to head into the training room.

You get put into a training room, alone, while Professor May talks to the people—who apparently—may be your parents—who aren’t supposed to fucking exist.

“How do you even know she’s our daughter? We didn’t have time–” Daisy starts, before May sighs, “This is a different timeline, so there’s a possibility that somehow—you two did have her—and then something happened when you gave birth. Coulson didn’t know all the details, he just found the documents, and since she was adopted into a loving family, he didn’t see a reason to bring you two into the loop.” and that just makes Daisy feel even more confused, “Then why now? What cause was there to bring us in now?” she asks, and May looks out the window at the girl, before looking back at us, “As I said, she’s been trying to find out more information about you two, and got dishonorably discharged, for hacking government equipment, as she put it, ‘for funsies’. Thankfully, I got to her before she put herself in more trouble.” she explains, and Daniel & Daisy look at each other, “That does sound like a mini me… she isn’t showing any signs of powers, right?” she asks, and May shakes her head, “Not yet, but we don’t know if she was one of the people who had those omega-3 supplements, or not. She does seem stable enough, so I’m hopeful that if she has them, she’s already learned to control them.” Daisy looks out the window, while shaking her head, “She likely wouldn’t have, but, if she never had the supplements, we could see if she wants to go through the mist” she breathes, and smiles as Daniel squeezes her hand.

You see them walk out, as you’re practicing your taekwondo, and stop momentarily, “So, do y’all want a DNA test, or something?” you ask while breathing deeply, and notice Daisy & Daniel look at each other, “No, we have something different we want to use as a test, but it has to be your choice.” Daisy conveys, and you look at them, and then May, even more confused before shrugging, “Shit, sure, whatever it is. It can’t be worse than bootcamp training, or the hell that it was to get in here, even though I could’ve easily hacked–” you blabber, and stop as you see Daisy giggling to herself, and Daniel smiling softly at you, while looking at Daisy with his eyes. “What’s so funny?” you ask, and Daniel smiles more before saying, “You act like us, massively, and–I do want to hear about your bootcamp experience, kiddo, after we deal with this” he expresses, and you tilt your head in curiosity. You don’t remember reading anywhere that your dad was part of the military. But, the guy does look familiar.

“Okay, so, what the hell is the test?” You ask as you walk with the three of them down to the science division, and you can see Daisy breathe in deep when you ask, “We’re going to put you, into a room, and release terrigen mist into it, if you don’t go into a momentary cocoon, then you’re not our daughter, if you do, you are” she explains, and you remember that word she used from your science courses, “Isn’t that what was found in omega-3 supplements, and then pulled from shelves?” you ask, and she & Professor May nod in unison, “Yes, humans aren’t affected by it, but people with our genes are.” Daisy clarifies, before pulling you to the side, “If you are our daughter, you will come out of that with a new ability, and I just need to make sure you’re ready.” she pleads, and you nod, “I am, whatever it takes to confirm or deny that, the parents I thought were dead, are actually alive & in front of me.” “Alright then, head into that room, kid, we’ll be on the other side of the glass.” She conveys, and you smile as you walk into the room.

Once you get in there, you give them a head nod to signify that you’re ready, and breathe deeply as the smoke fills the room. You start to breathe it in, and feel mud clawing its way up your skin. It takes everything in you to just keep breathing, and let the mud go up your body. 

The second it releases, you can feel every atom surrounding your body & the room. And, you can finally breathe again, but you can hear the electricity burst as you dive deeper into the feeling, and suddenly, you’re hitting the ground, and can’t get the feeling to stop. When suddenly, you hear Daisy & Daniel run in, and put their arms around you, “You’re okay, dear, you’re okay. It sucks at first, but I can help you control it” she mutters into your ear, and you can’t help falling deeper into their embrace.

Later on, you wake up in your dorm room, to Daisy & Daniel asleep together, right next to your bed, and smile softly, “Mom? Dad?” you ask, as you shake them both gently, and see them wake up.

“So, how exactly does all this work? And what exactly is the family history here?” You ask, as you cross your legs on the bed, “Well, I’m half inhuman, which is what our ancestors called themselves, and we have a genetic componet that is dormant, up until the point of going through the mist. And, your father is a World War 2 vet, as well as a legendary S.H.I.E.L.D agent, who time-travelled” she explains, and you’re still processing everything when you hear that last part, “Wait– wouldn’t that make dad 80 years old? What do you mean—time-travel?” you question, and Daniel nods, “Technically, yes, but–” he breathes before continuing, “your mothers last name is Johnson, and mine is Sousa,” and you gasp loudly enough that the shock of it takes out a few lights. “My parents, you two, are fucking legendary S.H.I.E.L.D agents Daisy Johnson & Daniel Sousa?!” which makes Daniel look behind himself at the lights, and laugh, while Daisy is chuckling, “Yes, kinda shocked they kept me in,” “Mom, you literally are known around here for saving the world, you, Phil Coulson, Fitzsimmons, and Professor May.” you exclaim, and smile, “And dad, you are also talked about a fuck-ton, mostly in the military & on World War 2 info-dump sites” you chuckle, and you & Daisy laugh at his confused expression, “Thats—a thing?” “Yes, dad, it is,” you laugh before adding, “I am just—shocked my delinquent ass was the product of you two..” and that causes Daisy to grab your hand, “Dear, you did exactly what I did, to cause Coulson to bring me into S.H.I.E.L.D, I literally hacked in, numerous times.” “You did?” you question, and get a laugh from that, “Yep, I was—a menace at your age.” “Shit, they did leave that out, but, how the hell did you & dad–” you question, and they look at each other before sighing, “Time-travel. We were saving the world, and went back to 1955, where your dad & I met, and he decided to join our freakshow, and no, we don’t know how exactly you happened, I’m sorry” she explains, and you smile while nodding, “I care-less about the knowing how, I’m just—glad I was finally able to find you both.” you express, and hug them tightly.
