{♣} — It is just yet again another sparkling sun-drenched afternoon when Komaeda had stepped out of the house in a hurry to get to work. Those thick strands of hair at the salon aren't going to sweep themselves away after all. His grandparents have always been against the idea of him taking the afternoon to evening shift on weekends but Komaeda could see no other way to earn quicker money. Besides, it's not like he has much friends to spend his weekend with.

After calling out his goodbyes to his guardians, Komaeda closes the door and pulls the hood of his jacket up over his head as he hurries down the sidewalk to head for the bus station. However, a certain scene passes by the corner of his vision and the pale-haired boy slows his steps down before sliding his attention over to where a girl is standing by herself with her tilted slightly up to the large tree before her.

Komaeda follows her gaze and catches sight of a backpack hanging on a branch. How in the world did that get up over there? Nevertheless, he had already seen her situation and it would be heartless of him to leave her be. After catching a glance at his watch and assuming that he still has more time before he could make it to his shift, he stirs his direction to the girl and taps her shoulder as soon as he reached her.

The moon was waxen, huge and low in the sky. Normally Shu liked looking at it and taking in the comfort it provided. Right now, however, he was a bit too preoccupied to even give it more than a mere glance out the huge windows of the hall because somebody is trying to talk him into dancing with them. The clipped answers he gave out seemed to work at least, because it wasn't long until the young woman wandered off, looking dejected and leaving the successor back to his own devices.

His suit, while perfectly tailored and made of the finest textiles money could buy, felt much too stuffy and almost suffocating. Tugging at his tie in order to get the silky turquoise cloth to loosen its hold on his neck proved to be a a valiant but ultimately vain effort so he gave up on that quickly.

He was here on the say-so of one very 'concerned' and just as 'gently insistent' Sakamaki clan head. Fail to show up for at least the first couple of hours and not only would he get his music taken away, but a bodyguard would hound him 24/7 to make sure he didn't even try putting so much as an ear-bud in.

It was a decent enough incentive, he supposed. He preferred his sanity intact, after all.

After the introductions have been made and the dance formally announced to have started, Shu, fully intent on avoiding unnecessary interaction with anyone, sought out solace at one of the tables near the back of the hall. He propped one elbow up on the tabletop, a hand supporting his chin while the fingers on the other thummed on the tabletop as if playing an imaginary violin, tracing out the swelling crescendos and confident arpeggios in the piece the orchestra was playing. It is something he was familiar with, having been made to practice it when his mother was still around. He stopped abruptly when he remembers and instead splayed his fingers out next to the red string on the starchy tablecloth, his attention now turned to his watch. It's only been thirty minutes.
