Bryan Scary (and the Shredding Tears)
Dammit, there aren't enough people who know this guy. I made a post earlier that mentioned him, and I've found a bunch of posts about him, but I can't seem to find any (popular) posts about him.
To summarize, Bryan Scary is a man out of Brooklyn whose music is extemely obscure, yet the people who know it(like me) seem to worship it.
It's a wonder his music isn't more well known. He's appeared on BreakThru Radio, had an album be Editor's Pick AND rank #6 in the Rock Albums section on iTunes, and apparently he's won "Person of the Week" on www.mastergiraffe.com.
But this guy, this guy hasn't made it out of the lost 2000's hole; he's less popular than Tally Hall. I can't understand why, for he's got mad skillz.
To go over his discography Scary debuted with:
Bryan Scary's Album The Shredding Tears (2006). I do not own the album or any of the songs. All rights reserved to Bryan Scary.
where he played each and every instrument in it excluding the drums(Jeremy Sunshine). When live, Scary plays with the band he named after the ablum, "The Shredding Tears."
In 2008, he released an album:
as "Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears. Later would come an EP, which consists of only 6 songs. Their next album would be "Daffy's Elixir,"
Which Spotify says is done by Bryan Scary alone, but I believe his band also helped out with. It was also a Kickstarter project.
Four years after Daffy's Elixir came Bryan Scary and another band under the name "Evil Arrows," which released several EPs with names corresponding to which numerical one they were(1, 2, 3, 4, and 5).
A year later, he started a fundraiser on a new album, BIRDS. It was delayed long after its promise, but just recently it was announced to be released on November 1st, 2019.
“PROCLAMATION: 'Birds' is coming to world at large November 1st, 2019. Pre-orders are up (or shall be soon) wherever things make noise...htt
This tweet links to a pre-order on bandcamp.
So far, all of these are on Spotify and Youtube (except for BIRDS), so feel free to give a listen. Scary's music is proclaimed as "orchestral, semi-psychedelic art pop," and Scary himself has influences from the Beatles, the Kinks, Queen and XTC. I would describe him as Billy Joel with the hands of Elton John who plays with the Beatles' uniqueness.
Please spread the talent of this man, who I feel deserves for recognition than he currently gets. He doesn't have the whimsical flaunt of Tally Hall, but he sure lives up to the Piano Man, especially since he's from NYC (except Joel's from the Bronx, not Brooklyn).
PS: Songs I would recommend are Ballroom Kid, Venus Ambassador, Heaven on a Bird, and the Purple Rocket. Nevermind I recommend all of them!
Feel free to add anything Bryan Scary!
As one of Bryan Scary's most put together songs, this is easily my favorite.
