cw: backstory for my girl!dad!jj x honeycomb!reader au, unplanned pregnancy, fluff/comfort themes.
You didn’t say much on the ride. Just held onto the back of JJ’s shirt tighter than usual, arms around his waist like maybe if you let go, the world would shift and swallow you whole. He didn’t press. Just drove you where you asked. The pier. It was always the pier when the house felt too small for what you were feeling.
When you got there, you walked ahead. He followed, glancing at your back every few steps. You sat at the edge, legs swinging over like always, but your arms stayed close to your chest. Curled in. Quiet. JJ lowered himself beside you. “You’re freaking me out, babe,” he muttered with a half-hearted laugh. “You— You’re not breaking up with me, are you?”
You didn’t answer. His heart clenched. His body leaned toward yours instinctively. You pulled something from your hoodie pocket and handed it to him. Didn’t say a word. He took it. Looked down. Stared. And stared. Two pink lines. “What—” he breathed. “Is this…”
He looked at you, wide-eyed, searching your face like he wanted to see a smirk or hear you say just kidding. “Is this real?”
You nodded. Barely. “I don’t wanna do this alone, JJ,” you whispered. “Please don’t make me do this alone.”
“I… fuck.” He runs both hands over his face. “You’re serious.”
You nod. And that’s when it hits him. You’re scared. JJ shuts up. Every voice in his head goes quiet.
He reaches for your hand, not just to hold it, he brings it to his chest, pressing your palm over his heart, making sure you feel it beating for you. “Hey. Look at me. We’re gonna figure it out, alright? I swear to god, honey, you’re not doing this alone. I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”
You nod again, even though tears were welling now. Your throat burned.
He blinked fast and laughed nervously, rubbing his free hand through his hair. “Okay. Okay. We’ll figure this out. I’ll—I’ll get a job. That new auto shop over in Figure Eight, you know the one that opened last month? I’ll go apply. They’ll take anyone, right? I’ll work weekends. Evenings. Whatever it takes.”
He nodded to himself, already spiraling. “I can fix bikes, and boats, and cars, too, if they let me learn—shit, I’ll learn fast—”
You just sat there. Silent. Still.
“And we’ll need diapers. A crib. Clothes. Fuck, do babies need clothes right away? What if it’s cold? I’ll find something warmer, or—or maybe I can talk to John B about the spare room—”
Then, he paused. His eyes flicked to you again. And this time, you weren’t holding back tears. You were crying. Fully, like your chest cracked open and the sound of your own future knocked the wind out of you. JJ froze. “Hey. Hey, baby—”
You shook your head. “I wanted to go to university.”
“And you’re still gonna go,” he cuts in, like he’s promising it to the sky. “You’re still gonna do everything you wanted to do. I’ll make sure of it. I’ll watch the baby while you’re in class, I’ll—fuck, I’ll learn how to cook, okay?”
A loud sob rips through you. JJ catches the sound in his chest, pulls you close, wraps himself around you like he’s trying to shield you from the world. “You’re gonna go to uni, baby. You’re gonna be a mom and graduate and do all the things you dream about.”
“I don’t know how to be a mom,” you whisper.
“I don’t know how to be a dad either,” he says. “But I know how to love you. And I’m gonna love our kid like I love you.”
You let yourself cry into his hoodie. And JJ, seventeen years old and scared out of his goddamn mind, just held you there on the edge of that pier, rocking a little, kissing the top of your head, his own eyes burning with tears.
He thinks of all the things he never thought he’d get, a family, something his, someone who trusts him enough to bring this kind of truth to him first. You, shaking and teary, on a pier with a pregnancy test and nothing else but hope. He’d build the rest. For you. For the little one. For all of it.

thinking of jj still being on the marsh or even on the beach when his baby’s born, so their first adventure out of the hospital is jj walking them around the water while you rest after giving birth to his baby
dad!jj maybank x mom!fem!reader | fluff | (haven’t named the baby in this little universe yet, will have to think about that, just adorbs!)
i’ve got an obsession with dad!jj. have my babies.

“She’s gonna need to eat,” you argued weakly from where you laid in bed, watching JJ roam around the bedroom excitedly packing up a bag.
“It’ll only be an hour, she’s eaten,” he replied, waving you off. He turned to you, crawling up the bed to lay beside you and press gentle kisses to your cheek. “It’s gonna be fine, baby. Promise. I can take care of ‘er.”
“She’s just so little,” you pouted, arms wrapping around his shoulders.
“I know,” he laughed, pecking your lips. “When you’re healed up we’ll take her out together, a’ight? But, for now, you’re gonna have a nap and we’ll be back before you know it.”
It didn’t take much more reassuring from JJ for you to let him take your two week old baby out, strapped to his chest with a big hat covering her from the sun. He was beaming from ear to ear as he slowly walked around, not straying far from the house but walking down towards the beach.
“This is where we all used to get drunk, you’re never doin’ that, tell you that for free,” JJ said softly, pointing to the Boneyard in the distance. Obviously all he got in response was a gurgle, but he was happy with that. “Mommy threw up riiight in that bush there.”
“Havin’ fun?” John B called, appearing behind him with an amused expression on his face. “I’ve been sent to make sure you’re both still alive.”
“We’re alive,” JJ laughed, walking towards him.
“Lookin’ like a real mother-hen there, Jay,” John B teased, handing him a bottle of water — sent from you, of course.
“Just showin’ her around,” JJ explained, taking a long sip and wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. “Was gonna head home soon. Surprised I haven’t had any messages.”
“She wanted to let you have fun, for a short amount of time,” John B smirked, clapping JJ on the back as the three of them made their way back home.
“Better getcha back to mommy, huh? ‘Fore she makes me sleep on the porch,” JJ stated, kissing his daughter’s head.
John B couldn’t help but watch in awe. Never did he think that the same guy who used to throw up in his sink and smoke all his weed would have a baby. Then again, the moment you came along he figured it was only a matter of time.

After a stormy night, you’re nuzzled against JJ because a loud thunder had jolted you awake at some point and ended up crawling into his bed in search of the safety he always provides you.
Now you get woken up by a ray of light that shines directly on your face, sitting up with your pacifier almost falling out of your mouth as you let out a squeaky yawn, stretching your short arms and prop yourself up on your knees, turning to see your father still deep asleep, laying on his back with his hair all over the place.
You giggle and move to sit on his chest, poking his cheek. "Daddyyyy." You whine, trying to open his eyelids with your fingers, squealing in surprise when his hands shoot up to tickle your sides, your paci falling out from all the laughing.
"Yeah, didn't expect this huh?" He mocks as he continues to wriggle his fingers at your most ticklish spots.
After both of you are a bit more awake, he scoops you up into his arms, carrying you downstairs and right outside when he sees John B already up as well.
As they stand next to each other JJ nods towards the flags, all of them flapping widely from the wind. The boys give each other a knowing look, excitement growing on their faces as they immediately know what it means.
"We're going to the beach!" JJ cheers, throwing you up in the air one time and effortlessly catches you again, going back inside to wake the others. "Wakey, wakey, everybody! You go and put on your swimsuit, kiddo."
Slowly but surely everybody got out of bed to prepare for the beach, not wanting to pass the chance of a good and well deserved surfing time.
Kie is showing you how to wax your small board properly, John B and Sarah are sitting nearby, and JJ is on his phone. "Yeah, baby, now that's a perfect swell. It's probably the best of the year." He says, putting his phone away to grab his own board.
"Come on. Are you guys seriously surfing today?" Pope questions as he walks past you all.
"Oh don't. Don't." John B warns him.
"As opposed to what?" Kie asks and you join in with cheered 'yeah'.
"Well, I don't wanna sell the million dollars I have in my hand for 50k, so I'm gonna look into this." He explains, holding up the shiny amulet your father and Kie got during their recent dangerous dive.
"Wait. Pope, you just heard me, right? I said it's a perfect swell day, and my kid is finally gonna learn to surf." JJ says, reaching to his right to ruffle your hair as you keep focusing on Kie and the way she waxes your board.
"Yeah, and there'll be other swell days." Pope answers determinedly while the others can't believe what their friend is saying right now.
"That's like saying there's other pizza to eat, all right." JJ complains, putting his board back down to go over to you and tie your hair in a small bun. "Like, c'mon. Are you serious?"
"Listen to your Earth Mother, Pope." Kie tells him, handing you the wax and guides your hand over the board. "She's, like, begging you to surf."
"I think, my Earth Mother is telling me to maximize our Intel." He interjects.
"Mine's telling me to maximize the swell." She responds, patting your head at how good you're doing after she showed you the tricks.
As they all continue to say what they want to maximize and Pope deciding to actually not go with you guys, they start to get everything ready for an amazing trip to the beach.
Now you’re all piled up in the Twinkie, with you sitting on Sarah’s lap in the passenger seat and bounce in excitement at seeing the beach getting closer.
"Look at those waves, cupcake." JJ‘s head pops up beside you, tickling your side to hear you giggle. "Papa's gonna show you all the tricks."
"And make big castle?" You ask excitedly, pressing your hands together.
"Hell yeah!" He cheers, pecking your cheek despite your squeal of protest. "Kie made sure to pack your shovel set."
You clap your hands with a adorable 'yay!' while the others smile at your cuteness. Once John B has found a nice spot to park, JJ steps out of the already open door of the Twinkie, stretching his limps as he gazes out at the ocean before he moves to take you from Sarah and twirls you around.
The moment you’re being set down on the sand, you jump happily, watching your father and your aunts and Uncle B set up their space with chairs, an umbrella, the cooler with some beer and apple juice boxes for you, and most importantly your beach toy set.
JJ ruffles your hair as you plop down on the ground, watching you fill a bucket full with sand before announcing. "Let’s get those boards off!"
"Oh boy." John B observe three jeeps coming closer their way, no doubt that inside those are the least people that they want to see today.
Just as the pogues assume, Topper and the rest of the kooks stop their vehicles right beside them with only a few feet of distance separating them.
"Oh, you’re joking. Of course they stop here." Kiara complains, the others just as annoyed at the clear provocation. "Why wouldn’t they? When there’s an entire beach."
You watch the kooks making themselves comfortable, seeing a few of the girls looking at you before laughing to each other and let out a huff, shoveling more sand into your bucket.
"Kie, don’t worry." JJ assures her as he starts to loosen the boards from on top of the Twinkie, specifically talking about Rafe. "He ain’t getting near you. I guarantee that. Hey, y’all. John B. Sunshine’s coming. What do you think he wants?" He nods towards Topper approaching you guys.
As John B shifts to meet him you whine for him in concern, standing up on your knees. "Bee…"
"Be right back, bubba. Don’t worry. Your uncle B got this." He winks at you, turning to walk towards Topper.
JJ then comes to crouch beside you and before you can react, he starts to smear your face with sun-cream as you sputter in surprise, whining again. "Yeah, yeah. I know, I’m mean. The less you squirm the faster I’m done, kiddo." When he’s eventually done tormenting you, he pats your head apologetically. "For disclaimer, Sarah forced me to do this."
"It’s for protection!" Sarah defends herself with a smile, her board tucked under her arm.
Your father chuckles, meeting your cute little glare. "Wipe this look of your face and follow your old man." He says and lets your small board drop in front of you, adding teasingly. "Unless you’re scared?"
You gasp out in outrage, quickly getting up to your feet and pick the board up from the ground with determination. "I surf! Like daddy!"
"That’s what we like to hear. Whoo!" JJ cheers, wrapping the surfboard leash around your ankle before grabbing his own board. "Let’s hit 'em waves!"
You’ve been spending some time in the water now, the pogues taking turns in staying close with you while the others surf, each of them giving you their own advice for your first wave but JJ is definitely gonna be the one to help you with it.
That’s how he finds himself in the more shallow water with you, keeping a hold on you as you try to balance on the board.
"Just like that. Okay, remember, it’s okay if you fall off. Don’t panic if you do. I’m gonna be right there then, okay? Just keep looking at uncle B over there on the beach. He’s gonna be there to catch you." JJ assures you, looking for the perfect wave for you and when it’s finally time he smiles at you. "Alright! There it is, baby. You got this!"
You squeal the second he lets go off you, keeping your arms up in an airplane motion as the wave takes you towards John B.
The distance wasn’t so far obviously and the wave not that high but JJ still cheers loudly with pride behind you. He’s been waiting for this moment ever since you were born and he can feel a single tear sliding down his cheek, blaming it at the saltwater.
John B lifts you off the board once you’re close enough and hoists you onto his shoulders in one smooth motion, taking off the surfboard leash from around your ankle and then holds your hands in his as he dances with you on the beach while the others rush out of the water to you both.
You smile widely as JJ takes you from John B, placing your tiny hands against his wet cheeks and giggle loudly. "Daddy you see me? I surf!"
"Yes! I’m so proud of you!" He tells you honestly, resting his forehead against yours with a laugh. "My tough little cupcake."
Some time later, the sun is getting lower and your once excited self is slowly getting tired, now seated in JJ‘s beach chair with a light sweater covering you as you sip your juice box.
"She’s all tuckered out." Kiara comments with a soft smile, helping JJ lift the last board on the Twinkie.
"You bet she is." He chuckles, taking a glance at you who’s trying to hide a yawn. "10 bucks she’ll conk out the second she’s in the van."
Kiara suddenly gasps. "Guys, there’s a turtle hatch!"
"What?" JJ fastens the board, turning to where she runs off to and smiles when he sees the turtles start to reveal themselves, calling out to you. "Come here. Take a look at those babies."
You quickly toddle over to him, taking his outstretched hand and look to where’s he’s pointing at, gasping at seeing the small turtles. "Ohh, turtles!"
JJ crouches behind you, keeping an arm around your body to keep you from getting to close. "Look at them go."
"Wook. No touchy!" You remember Kiara telling you once when you watched a documentary with her about turtles.
"That’s right, kiddo." Your father rubs your belly and Kiara gives you a proud look. "But we can make them a path to the water! Come on, guys."
"Yeah, yeah! Let’s go." John B agrees, him and Sarah already getting to work.
You help where you can, careful of giving the turtles enough space and don’t touch any with all the restraint you have on yourself even though it’s very tempting, kneeling beside JJ with a big smile on your face.
"Hey, stop! There’s a hatch!" You hear aunt Kie yell out at one point and lift your head from where you’re smoothing out the sand.
One of the kooks jeeps is driving directly towards you and the pogues, all of them starting to scream at them to stop in a desperate attempt to protect the freshly hatched turtles.
As the jeep keeps on picking up speed, JJ realizes that they are not going to stop and quickly snatches you off the ground to jump to the side just as the vehicle rushes past you all.
His hold on you is tight, keeping you pressed against him as the shock runs through his body, murmuring into your ear. "I got you…you’re okay. You’re okay-" He chokes, feeling you tremble in his arms.
He turns to the others, making sure his friends and girlfriend are alright as well. "You guys okay?"
"I’m fine." Kiara mutters furiously.
You feel John B place his hand on the back of your head, giving you and JJ a once-over. "You both alright?"
"We’re good." JJ exhales, trying to get a look of your face but you keep it tucked into his neck, sniffling softly.
They barley have a moment to breath as the jeep turns and barrels towards them a second time, but JJ stays off to the side this time for your protection alone while the others still try to stop the jeep. He sure as hell ain’t gonna let something happen to his kid.
When you hear the loud engine drive past again and eventually become quieter, you finally lift your head, your bottom lip wobbling as JJ approaches Kiara, who’s now covered in some kind of liquid and panting softly.
You can hear the kooks laugh and cheer in the distance, your grip on JJ‘s shirt tightening further as you cry quietly and watch Kie pick up one of turtles with trembling hands.
It’s shell is cracked and you whimper when you don’t see it moving anymore but your father is quick to hush you, turning his body slightly so you can’t see it. "Shh, don’t look, baby. Papa’s got you. It’s okay."
"Stay here." Kiara says firmly, marching off towards the kooks and JJ's eyes widen.
"Kie. Kie, wait- damn. John B, take her for a moment." JJ tries to hand you over to him but you whimper again.
"No! Don' go, daddy!" You cry out, holding onto him with all the strength you’ve still got, not wanting to let him go with how scared you are. "Pwease…no go."
JJ sighs, contemplating with himself on what to do. He obviously wants to make sure his girlfriend is alright when confronting the kooks, but he also can’t just hand you off when you are so distraught.
"I’ll go with Kie." John B then offers, patting his shoulder. "You stay with your kid."
"Thanks man." JJ nods, watching John B walk off to catch up with Kiara before he turns his attention back to you, bouncing you gently. "Hey…dry those tears. I’m not gonna leave you."
You sniffle again, letting him wipe the tears of your cheeks and hiccup as he presses a soft kiss against one of them before nuzzling your face back into the crook of his neck, murmuring sadly. "Wanna go home…"
"We'll go home soon, promise." He assures you, walking over to the Twinkie and takes a seat inside it, taking the pacifier and your shark plushie from Sarah when she holds them out to him after fishing them out of your small bag.
JJ slips the paci into your mouth and tucks the shark under your arm, shifting you in his arms so he’s cradling you like a baby, starting to rock his upper body to soothe you.
"Shh, shh." He hushes you softly, exchanging a somber smile with Sarah as he rubs your back comfortably.
You’re so emotionally exhausted that you don’t even fight the way your eyelids start to flutter shut and JJ clenches his jaw at how this once amazing day turned into this just because of those damn kooks yet again, it’s always them ruining everything.
JJ swallows his anger, looking down into your finally peaceful face now that you’ve fallen asleep in his arms, brushing some of your wild hair to the side with a sigh, only wanting to get you safely tucked into your bed as soon as possible.
“Aw shit.” He grumbled when she started to sob in line, everyone turning to look at them. “What? Never heard a baby cry before?” He told them, you hitting his shoulder. But it worked, they all turned back around, embarrassed that the Maybank boy would call them out.
You sighed, picking her up, and checking her diaper real quick. That wasn’t the problem. So you started to cradle her, shushing her gently and rocking her in your arms. Her sobs still hadn’t quieted. You glanced around the cafe, turning back to JJ.
“Go sit down.” He shrugged, leaning down to the baby in your arms, tickling her and making a funny face in attempt to make her smile or laugh.
It made her laugh for a moment, but when he stopped, her sobs were right back. You gave him a small smile, as a thank you for the attempt.
“I got it. I remember your order. It’s a-“
“I know you do.” You giggled, shaking your head at the boy and grabbing the stroller with one hand , walking to the nearest corner as quickly as you could.
You sat her down in your lap, and began to look for anything to cover yourself, since your baby hated the nursing cover. You couldn’t find anything and she had began to tug on your shirt, so you huffed and just pulled it up, not caring at this point.
JJ came back with your drinks and food rather quick, sitting next to you, giving you a small smile and setting it onto the table.
Your baby latched onto your nipple, and you already knew people would be staring. They always did.
JJ glanced around, scooting closer to you when he noticed a specific man staring a little too concentrated. JJ glared at the man, making direct eye contact with him.
The man turned away, swallowing the lump in his throat. JJ smiled victoriously, turning back to you. That’s when he noticed more stares, from younger kids and others, who you could care less about.
“These fucking people need to mind their business.” He grumbled out, sipping on the coffee he had in front of him.
“They always stare.” You shrugged. “I give up on caring at this point.”
“It’s like they’ve never seen a pair of tits in their life.” He snorted, you turning to face him and raising your eyebrow at him.
“What? I’m just saying the truth.” He murmured, putting an arm on your chair and around you.
“Sometimes I wonder how I let myself get knocked up by you.”
“Fair enough.” He tilted his head to the side. Everything was fine for a little. You were drinking your water, Jj was content with drinking his coffee, rambling on, and she was still drinking your milk. That was until you felt a tap on your shoulder.
You both turned, looking at the older woman who stared down at you. You knew when she had a Karen haircut, that she would be saying some shit.
“Uhm, excuse me. That is extremely inappropriate, and you shouldn’t be doing it in a public place.”
JJ had a scowl on his face at her words, you looking at the woman confused and anger beginning to bubble in your stomach.
“I’m sorry?” You scoffed, glancing down at your baby.
“My husband is at the table, and we both find it difficult to eat when we’re distracted by…” she motioned to your baby with her hands.
You had to laugh. You laughed in her face, her making a disgusted face.
“Yeah, I think your husband is distracted for a different reason, lady.” JJ glanced at the man sitting at the table. He waved, the man staring at him. “I know, she’s got tits, crazy, woo fucking hoo. Can you leave us alone?” He exclaimed.
“It is disgusting, why not go into the bathroom or something and do… that?”
You were going to open your mouth before JJ spoke for you.
“Oh my god, mind your business. The baby’s hungry, why is that so weird and disgusting? It’s not.”
She huffed, immediately going over to the workers, demanding a manager. JJ scoffed, pulling you both closer towards him, glancing at the lady’s husband.
“Your girlfriend could be a bit more… modest.” He spoke.
“And you could go fuck yourself.” JJ retorted before turning back to you.
“Thank you.” You murmured to him.
“Don’t thank me. Gotta keep my girls safe, don’t I?”
“Oh, Prince Charming.” You retorted. “What would I do without you?”
“You would die without me.”
“I probably would.” You smiled, the manager walking over to your table, the woman standing next to him.
“What seems to be the problem?” He sighed out, not seeming so amused by the lady.
You shrugged, JJ just still glaring at the lady. “I’m just trying to feed her.” You murmured.
“She’s doing it in public! Where anyone- a child can see… all her stuff!”
JJ’s jaw tightened, the manager taking notice. “Okay- okay, can we, like, calm down?” He told the woman.
“Kick them out and then I will!”
JJ was struggling to keep his composure, you knew it. You turned to him, laying a hand on his arm and shaking your head.
“They’re not doing anything wrong.” The manager spoke to the lady. “There’s nothing I can do. But you’re causing a disruption, and I’m afraid if it continues, I’m gonna have to ask you to leave.” He told her, her face falling. She shook her head, grabbing her purse and stuff, then both leaning while shouting.
The manager sighed, going over to the table, wiping it down and picking up cups, stopping at your table again.
“Sorry about that. My wife used to breastfeed, and I can’t tell you how annoying it is when people like that exist.” He laughed, you smiling and laughing along. “How old is she?”
“6 months.” You smiled, glancing down at her before turning back to the man.
“That’s lovely. Miss them when they’re that young. Mines is 14 now.”
“Oh, that’s great!” You told him, he smiled and shrugged.
“Yeah.” You could just tell the fondness he had for them, in his eyes and the way he spoke. “Well, you two have a good day, alright?”
“You too.” JJ gave him a small smile, nodding his head, before turning back to you. You moved to unlatch her, once you felt like she had enough. JJ pulled down your shirt, and you sat her down and finally began to eat in peace.
“Oh my God.” He suddenly spoke, you turning to him with furrowed eyebrows. “What? What?” You asked him.
“I’m gonna teach her how to cuss at people.”
“Seriously?”
“Oh, yeah. So when you don’t have me, your Prince Charming, you have her just going ‘fwuck you!’ It’s perfect.”
“Yeah, well, that’s if she doesn’t pick your sailors mouth before you can even teach her.”
“Hey, you cuss just as much as me, ma’am.”
“I’m not saying ‘fuck, shit, or piss’ every 20 minutes though.”
He thought for a moment, before nodding. “You’re right.”
hiii dad jj with this TikTok 🥺 thanks! https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8kUvbAN/
I looove this ask so much! The son is from my Legacy Series that I haven’t posted anywhere else yet 🤫
“That’s my dude.”

>>>warning: pure fluff
>>>summary: two-year-old Hurley wants to go surfing with JJ but he can’t swim
A/N: I really need to post more from my Legacy Series! Ugh. I love dad!jj and uncle!jj so much!!
The sun’s barely up when you hear the backdoor creak open.
You peek out the window and there he is; JJ, board under one arm, wax in his teeth, hair still messy from sleep. Morning light hitting the ocean just right. He’s always said he feels most like himself when the tide’s low and the world’s quiet.
But this morning?
“Papaaa!”
Tiny feet slap the deck.
Two-year-old Hurley barrels after him, wearing nothing but shark-patterned swim trunks, one Croc, and his determined little frown.
“No no no, buddy,” JJ calls over his shoulder, already dropping his board in the sand. “Not today, okay? You can watch from the beach with Mama—”
“I go, too!” Hurley yells, proudly dragging his “surfboard” behind him — a foam kitchen cutting board with stickers all over it.
JJ freezes mid-step. Turns.
“Hurley…”
“My board!” he insists, chin wobbling. “I paddle wif you. I go, Papa.”
JJ walks back up, kneels low, hands on Hurley’s bare shoulders. He’s trying so hard to be gentle. “You can’t swim yet, little man. It’s too deep out there.”
“But I got my cutting bowd!” Hurley cries. His eyes glass over. The lip starts to tremble.
JJ immediately breaks.
“Oh, don’t— buddy, don’t do the lip—”
Hurley sniffles. Wipes his nose on JJ’s bandana. “I go in da watah, papa…”
JJ pulls him into his lap, burying his face in Hurley’s wet curls. “One day, yeah? I promise. One day, you and me; riding waves like pros. But today? Today you gotta be my little beach captain. You’re on mommy protection. Super important job.” JJ pats Hurley’s back. “Can you take care of mommy for me?”
Hurley mumbles into JJ’s chest. “O’tay…”
“That’s my dude.”
JJ kisses the top of his head, then stands up and sets Hurley on a beach towel beside you. “He’s literally me,” he whispers, raking a hand through his hair. “But smaller. And louder.”
You kiss JJ’s cheek. “And cuter.”
“Okay, rude.”
Hurley sits on the sand, clutching his cutting board, sniffling but still watching JJ paddle out like it’s the most magical thing in the world.
And of course JJ keeps glancing back at the shore, just to see his boy watching.

BONUS
“Alright, lil’ dude,” JJ calls from the kitchen, grabbing his board and slipping his arms through a faded tank. “Tide’s good, wind’s soft. Perfect waves today. You comin’ with me?”
Silence.
He peeks into the living room.
Hurley, now five, is lying belly-down on the floor, surrounded by crayons and a sketchpad the size of his head. His tongue’s sticking out in concentration as he colors something in with short, furious strokes of green.
JJ steps closer.
“Buddy?”
“Can’t. I’m making grass.”
JJ blinks. “What?”
“For the hill. In the back.” Hurley doesn’t even look up.
JJ lowers his board. “You don’t wanna come surfing?”
“Not today.”
“But you used to wanna come.”
Hurley shrugs, still drawing. “That was when I was two.”
JJ pauses in the doorway, staring at the back of his son’s shaggy blond head. “Damn,” he mutters to himself. “Why didn’t I just say yes when you were two?”
You laugh softly from the couch. “Because he couldn’t swim, and he was using a cutting board as a surfboard.”
“Still.”
He lets out a dramatic sigh and turns to head out, only to stop when Hurley calls, “Wait!”
JJ turns, hopeful. “Changed your mind?”
Hurley tears a page out of his sketchbook and pads over barefoot. “No. But I made this for you.”
He hands JJ a crayon drawing.
It’s messy, bright, and perfect.
A wobbly stick-figure JJ stands on a surfboard, arms out wide, hair sticking up. Next to him, in huge purple letters:
“Dada surfing da BIGGEST WAVE!”
JJ stares at it, heart tightening in his chest.
“Dude… I love it.”
“I know,” Hurley says, already back to coloring. “I draw better than surfing the ocean anyway.”
JJ tucks the drawing gently into his bag like it’s sacred.
“Best surf sesh ever,”
I named the son Hurley since JJ is definitely the type to name his son from a surfboard brand. In my head Hurley is more artistic and quiet —opposite of JJ but they have a lot of cute moments that I can’t wait to post!

Any Dad!JJ? You’re just one of the best at writing him.
dad!jj for the soul !!!!! i hope you enjoy, angel! i really enjoyed writing this one! 🤍
jj's elated when he sees his six year old babygirl, avery, walking out of her classroom. it's three-thirty on the dot, a time jj looks forward to daily when he picks up your daughter and takes her to work with him while they wait for you to meet them there after work.
avery reaches him, and he crouches down to her height so he can press a kiss to her cheek. "hi, babygirl."
"hi, daddy!"
he loves how chipper his little girl gets when she's around him. she lets it be known that she adores his presence, and that's what he's always dreamed of as a parent.
"mama killed it on your hair today," he says. he yanks gently at one of the braids you'd put into her hair earlier this morning. "look at these. phew. think my babygirl's a model."
she giggles at her father's affectionate words, cheeks heating with love. her squeals grow louder when jj scoops her up and makes his way to his truck. he buckles her into her booster seat, ruffling up the top of her hair playfully before shutting the door and getting into the driver's seat.
"hey, daddy?"
"'sup, aves?" he asks, pulling out of the parking lot and starting on the journey to the auto shop.
"what colours do boys like best?"
he arches a brow. "what d'ya mean, sweet girl?"
"dunno...like what colour do you like most on mama?"
"hmmm," jj says, pondering out loud. "that's a hard one, baby. i think your mama looks good in everythin'."
an adorable huff escapes her pursed lips. "daddy. 'm serious. you have to pick one."
the truck zooms down the road, passing by avery's favourite fast food joint. jj can't help but speed up just a smidge, hoping and praying that she won't look out the window and wrangle a chicken finger combo out of him. 'cause then he'd have to get one for her. he's never said no to his princess and he doesn't plan on changing that any time soon.
"mm, i guess i'd say red. i like when she wears that matching lipstick too."
jj looks up at the rear view mirror, catching the way avery nods before a presumable heat takes over her face. the dimple she'd gotten from him peeks through as she smiles to herself.
"what're you smilin' about?"
"nothing, daddy. i just think i'm gonna wear red for the dance tomorrow."
he arches a brow, but he doesn't push her on her answer. "whatever you want, babygirl."
˖ . ݁ 𝜗𝜚. ݁₊
jj hears the click-clacking of high heels against the floors of the auto-shop, and he doesn't need to wheel out from underneath the station wagon he's working on to know it's you.
"hi, mommy!" avery greets cheerfully, getting off the spinning chair jj had secured for her from the break room. she runs over to you as quickly as her smaller feet can manage, and you meet her with an equally thrilled grin. you pick her up and squeeze her into a tight hug.
"hi, baby." you smooth down some of her frizz. "how was school?"
"it was good. chrissy shared her chocolate bar with me, and kyle gave me a flower at recess."
neither of you can see it, but jj makes a face under the car.
kyle? who the fuck was kyle?
"he's a good best friend to you, baby," you tell her. "did you thank him?"
"yes. and he's not my best friend anymore, mama. he's my boyfriend."
this time, you do see jj's reaction. or, rather, hear it anyway.
"what?!"
something that sounds like a bang rings through the air, followed by a shit (to which your daughter snickers, always one to find her father hilarious). then, he rolls out from beneath the vehicle, rubbing his forehead to ease the sharp pain. his eyes find your daughter's, though, and he's as stern as you've ever seen him.
"aves— you can't have a boyfriend!"
"daddy, i'm six. i'm not a baby," avery reminds him, sounding every bit like a teenager instead of her actual age. the sass never failed to make you smile.
just like her daddy.
"yes, you are still a baby! my baby!"
"j—" you interject.
"nah. nope. no way."
"why don't you go back over there and colour, angel?" she nods, and you set her down, watching as she runs back to her chair. she takes a sip of her apple juice, bringing her attention back to her artwork.
deciding she's not at all bothered by jj's theatrics, you walk over to him and help him stand. you look up into his cerulean eyes when he towers above you. "babe, relax. she's six."
"exactly! she's a baby! she can't have a boyfriend. s'just not happenin'."
you give him a knowing smile, your arms looping around the back of his neck. "you were my boyfriend when we were six," you remind him. "don't think you found anything wrong about that back then."
he frowns, but pulls you in closer by your hips anyway. no matter what, any time he's around you without touching you, it just seems like a waste.
"that's different. i was a nice boy."
you both realize avery's been listening quietly when she chimes in. "kyle's nice too, daddy. he kisses my cheek everyday at the end of school."
she says it like it's a fact. like kyle never misses out on what infuriatingly sounds like a tradition to jj.
jj thinks he's having a stroke.
"he's puttin' his lips on you, now?!" his forehead falls to your shoulder, and he slumps against you like the six-foot baby he is. "oh god, i think i'm gonna be sick." a beat passes, and then he distances himself from you. the sulk is still prominent on his face, and now, it's probably permanent. he pulls at his collar, shifting uncomfortably as he tries to fan himself off. "'m i sweating?"
avery hops down from her chair, strutting over to her father and tugging at the leg of his coveralls, silently requesting that he crouch down to her height. of course, jj immediately falls in line.
"don't be mad, daddy."
"wait, wait, wait— is kyle the reason you're wearin' red tomorrow?!"
"don't worry, daddy." she pats his cheek like he's the one who needs reassurance. to be fair, he clearly is. "kyle's nice. just like you."
and with that, she trots off back to her chair with a cheshire cat smile, clearly feeling accomplished.
"yeah. he better be," jj mutters bitterly, standing back up.
your hands reach out to grab a hold of your husband again, and it draws his attention back to you. your hands frame his face and you give him a smile. "you're gonna be a total nightmare when she grows up and gets a boyfriend or girlfriend for real."
"damn right, i will. like i said, she's my baby."
you raise a brow. "i thought i was your baby?"
his tongue darts out to wet his lips, and then his mouth forms into a smirk. "see now, she's my baby. but you're my baby." his hands migrate down to your ass and he gives you a squeeze. "you pickin' up what i'm puttin' down?"
warnings: pure angst, pregnancy, season four part two, death, in this they take his body back to the island.
summary: he's gone and now is only them.
playlist: diez dias despues by airbag (live version) / pink skies by zach bryan / walking in the wind by one direction
a/n: i translated the song it's called 'ten days later' by and argentinian band called airbag. listen to it, the rythm makes sense with the lyrics.
i just remembered i forgot to tell you the best part
tell you how i learned to say sorry, to ask for forgiveness
i can't stop myself from thinking
why life was so unfair (fragil) on you
jj's voice invaded her mind, his 'wooohooo' and his loud laugh when she told him she was pregnant two days before leaving to morocco. she wondered how they went from planning their future to planning his wake. her hands still stained with his blood, the blood of the love of her life as she watched his lifeless body being taken inside a plane where she would be flying too.
the kids are in town for a funeral was what the whispers said.
it was as nice as a funeral could be, her parents, pope's and kie's parents, the pogues, a few of the cut who appreciated the boy and rafe cameron of all people. john b's words were beautiful as far as he got to go before his voice broke and he had to sit down and let pope to continue.
"i like to think it's not so much how many years you get to live but what you do with them and jj packed it in, a whole damn life in those twenty years." he looked at the picture at the altar of the church. "he did everything for the one's he loved and if he was the king of anything, he was the king of friendship." his voice cracked and pope took it from there while his friend made his way back to his seat in between sarah and y/n who took his hand in hers.
"he is our glue, he was loyal as they come. jj maybank was the best friend we ever had." he looked up to the ceiling. "we love you bro, we'll take care of them."
i see you everywhere i go as an allucination of sorts
you didn't even warn me you were leaving
the lights are off in the city, i can't see where you're going
maybe tomorrow you'll be back
her belly grew fast, she was already three months in when he passed and she hated she didn't had anyone by her side who'd get as excited as he would've at the first kick their baby gave her.
everyone was grieving, john b and sarah had asked for permission to name their own baby 'jackson' and she gave it to them because she how could she not? john b was grieving his brother and it was something jj would've wanted.
every person she crossed paths with said how sorry they were for her loss, lies but she thanked them for it even kooks who hated jj maybank gave her their condolences. no one had the heart to be mean to a pregnant girl who had lost her boyfriend.
and she saw him everywhere, every morning in the kitchen, beside her in the nights and in the beach was were she saw him the most. any blond head surfing in the sea gave her hope it'd be him but she knew he wasn't, he was in a little box at each house of the pogues and in the sea. it was what he would've wanted.
i remember how we lost control
in the craziness and need to survive
i can't stop myself from thinking how you'd be if you were still here
her memories were all filled by him. she couldn't think of anything else, just him and his face full of life and pain when he went in front of her.
"hey baby." she smiled at the tree john b and pope had helped her to put in the backyard, she had spread some of his ashes under it to have a place where she could feel she could to talk to him. where her baby could talk to their father. "we're seven months today which means it's been four months without you."
she rubbed her belly and closed her eyes as the wind kissed her skin.
"he's in jail you know." she chuckled. "rafe, don't you dare laugh at me, caught him in morocco with the pogues, cleo almost kills the man or at least is what kie told me." a yellow butterfly flyed in front of her. "i guess this is your way to tell me you're laughing at me." the tears didn't wait to come. "and luke gave me the house, signed it to my name and said it was the least he could do for us and that he was sorry. i haven't seen him since."
"sarah and john b's baby will be called jackson, i know you'd have loved that." her head rested against the wood. "i miss you."
i see you everywhere i go as an allucination of sorts
you didn't even warn me you were leaving
the lights are off in the city, i can't see where you're going
maybe tomorrow you'll be back
a knock in her door while she ate the dinner cleo made her. she and kie continued to live at the maybank property while john b and sarah bought the house next door with the money sarah inherited from ward and pope went from cleo's room to his parents place.
the business continued but she was alone tonight for the first time in a while. she didn't expect rafe cameron to be on the other side of the door when she opened.
"rafe?"
"hey." he smiled at her. "can i come in?" things had changed a lot, sarah and her brother had made up in some weird way. no one could forget the things he did to them but he stayed true to his word and was now engaged to some girl from the cut she knew.
"sure?" she stepped to the side to let him in and closed behind him.
they sat on the couch.
"i'll cut it short because i know it's weird that i'm here." she nodded and he chuckled. "this isn't charity or pity but i want to offer you a job."
"no. i know the history we have, the history i had with maybank but none of you deserved what happened." a lump in her throat formed. "and you're pregnant." she once again nodded. "i know you're good with numbers, you did the for the country club."
"yeah what with that?"
"you could do them for a restaurant we're opening down town, i don't expect you to start right now or shortly after you give birth but you could have health inssurence if you agree and then we'll see when you'll start."
"where's the catch?" he knew she wouldn't trust him and she had the reason not to.
"there's no catch, i'm paying for sarah's inssurence and being honest none of you will be able to pay the hospital bills if you don't have one so just think about it." he stood up. "you and your kid deserve a better chance."
you were a slave in this hostil world
you were a slave in this cruel world
she talked about it with the pogues, she didn't think they'd agree with rafe.
"this isn't what jj would've wanted." she told kie.
"jj would want you both safe even if it came from rafe's." she kissed her friends cheek before leaning down to kiss her belly too. "talk to him and then you can decide."
and she found herself under the tree like every single day.
"it's not fair that i have to make all this decisions by myself maybank." she cleaned her watery eyes. "you took the easy way out j." she couldn't stop herself from sobbing, clunching onto the shark tooth necklace hanging on her neck. "give me a signal of what you think, should i take rafe's offer?"
i see you everywhere i go as an allucination of sorts
you didn't even warn me you were leaving
the lights are off in the city, i can't see where you're going
maybe tomorrow you'll be back
she woke up sweating, wanting to go back into her dream. 'take it baby, i didn't want to deprive you of my love. you need the security i can't give you.' he whispered as an angel kissing her round belly before sending her back to reality.
it wasn't my intention to deprive you of my love
i didn't want to hurt you
it was a boy, blonde mop of hair and blue eyes rested on her arms. james kailan maybank a combination of his dad's name and what his dad was.
james meant son of ther spirit and kailan, a hawaiian name kie mentioned, meant moon and ocean. jj would've loved it.
i see you everywhere i go as an allucination of sorts
you didn't even warn me you were leaving
the lights are off in the city, i can't see where you're going
maybe tomorrow you'll be back
jj would've adored his little boy.
eight years went by but she continued to be in solitud.
"i hope you can see how well jackson and him get along, is like seeing a new version of you and john b." she looked down at the tattoo on her wrist. 'jj&j'. "there's no one new, i don't think i'll ever have the heart to."
she couldn't stop herself from crying.
"he loves to hear about you, to see videos of your surfing and asked pope to teach him." she laughed. "you would've laughed at him, i did it for you, everyone laughed actually even pope."
she took a deep breath in.
"i'm still mad at the world for taking you away from me but he's just like you. you would've been such a good dad j, i love you baby."
maybe in another universe she wouldn't have to think how things would've been if he was still there. maybe in another universe she wouldn't have to think what would've jj wanted.
