âWhen will Santa come?â
âWhat makes you think he will stop by here?â
Leviâs lips formed a pout as he looked at Ashton, throwing a green rubber duck his way which Ashton caught quickly, putting it on his own head, smiling at his son. His arms were resting on the side of the bathtub, fingers dangling into the water before smearing some suds onto Leviâs nose, making the little boy finally huff out a giggle, trying to clean it off.
It was closing his bedtime, but Levi was too hyper to go to sleep, excited to meet Santa. Youâve tried to explain to him that Santaâs not going to visit the house until heâs not asleep, but he was stubborn and said heâs gonna wait for him anyway. You rolled your eyes and whispered to Ashton that Levi was definitely his son, and he just shrugged, flashing you a cheeky smile that he also knows someone whoâs just as stubborn as the little blond boy currently munching on his gingerbread cookie.
âI was a good boy this year, Daddy,â Levi declared, reaching for the green duck which Ashton gave back to him, leaning closer to press a kiss onto the top of his head.
âShould we ask Mommy if she thinks youâve made the Nice List this year?â Ashton reached for a towel when Levi nodded, quickly wrapping it around him when he lifted the little boy from the tub.
Ash took Levi back to his room to dry him off, helping him put on the new pyjamas his grandma from Australia sent him, the reindeers on it making it the perfect Christmas wear. Levi got hold of Mr. Wolfie before running down the stairs, Ashton trying to keep up with him and catching him at the bottom, throwing him over his shoulder.
âGotcha!â he fell back onto the couch with his son, pulling him into his lap and blowing a raspberry onto his stomach, making him squeal with delight.
âWell, look at you! Arenât you just the cutest little kid in town?â you leaned against the doorframe, smiling at your boys. âCome and show me your PJs!â
Levi quickly ran to you and wrapped his tiny arms around your legs, already babbling about Santa and all. Ashton watched the two of you from the couch, heart full as you sat on the floor, your son in your lap while you promised him that he definitely made the Nice List. He even took pictures of the two of you, wanting to set them as his background picture, just like heâd done it from the moment he found out you were pregnant.
âCome on Munchkin, letâs put some cookies out for Santa, okay?â you pressed another kiss on the top of Leviâs head, and he nodded, scurrying to the kitchen. âYouâre coming, Ash?â
âWouldnât miss it for the world,â he winked at you, helping you up and leading you towards the kitchen as well.
A good 20 minutes later there was a plate set on the coffee table next to the Christmas tree, along with a glass full of milk. Ashtonâs been whispering funny remarks to you all through your set up, making it hard not to laugh out loud. Even though you both knew that Santa didnât exist and that youâll be the ones who will eventually eat the cookies and all, you still wanted to give the whole experience to Levi, not wanting to ruin the wonder and magic of Christmas. Now Levi was trying to put everything on the plate, not wanting the cookies and the carrots he insisted on for the reindeers to touch each other. He was a very generous little boy as he did pile six or seven gingerbread cookies onto each other, making sure Santa didnât leave the house too hungry.
Ashton was sitting next to him, pretending to help but in reality he was taking a video of his son, commenting through the whole thing as Levi either asked him to help or made his own comments at his daddy. He was holding a cookie in his hand as he contemplated where to put it, and Ashton couldnât help himself as he leaned forward, playfully biting off the head of a snowman.
âNoooo, Daddy! Thatâs for Santa!â the little boy gave him a pout and an offended look, something that looked cuter than it should have.
âSorry kiddo,â Ash giggled, pecking his cheek. âLet me bring another!â
âYouâre the Grinch, Daddy,â Levi still pouted when Ashton brought back some more cookies as a peace offering. âYou donât want Santa to bring me my presents because youâre on the Naughty List and youâre not getting any!â
âIâm sorry, Levi,â he cooed at the little boy, pulling him into his lap and hugging him. âIâll promise Iâll behave. I donât want to scare Santa away.â
You watched the interaction from the kitchen, hiding your own giggles at your two loves bickering back and forth. If only Levi knew how high on the Naughty List his dad wasâŚ
In the end Levi couldnât keep being upset as he cuddled up with Ashton, intending to watch Christmas movies until Santa finally arrived. He only made it 30 minutes into the new Grinch movie before he fell asleep on his daddyâs shoulder, wrapped in a blanket and a hug. Ashton opened his arm for you so you could snuggle in there too for a little bit, a content sound leaving his lips as you buried your face in his neck.
âIâm the luckiest man on Earth,â he whispered, resting his head on top of yours. âI love you two, so much.â
âWe love you too, Daddy Grinch,â you giggled, pressing a kiss where you could reach him. âWe should put the little monkey to bed. We still have a lot to do.â
âLike eating all those cookies left for Santa?â he wiggled his eyebrows, smiling down at you.
âDonât forget the carrots,â you poked his side, both of you exchanging another laugh.
Ashton took Levi upstairs, tucking him and Mr. Wolfie into bed, before taking a few minutes to write him a little note in the name of Santa, thanking him for the treats left for him. He left the card next to the plate which soon became empty, the two of you munching on the cookies and the carrots as you put the presents under the tree, stuffing the stockings and cleaning up any remaining wrapping papers that would give away the whole game.
You were finishing the last of the dishes when Ashton wrapped his arms around your waist, kissing your cheek sweetly. You felt something soft bumping against your head, and as you turned around you saw your husband with a Santa hat on top of his head, the pompom swinging around as he shook his head to give you a show.
âYouâre so silly,â you muffled your giggle against his chest, his hands slowly sliding down your hips to your ass, squeezing it lightly. âYou know, I do prefer Santa Daddy.â
âHmm, but if Iâm Santa Daddy, then I cannot be on the Naughty List,â he gave you a cheeky smile. âBut I can definitely put you on top of it.â
âAnd if I wanna be on top of Santa Daddy?â you pushed yourself up on your tiptoes, brushing your lips against his. âWhere does that put me, huh?â
âOh, that puts you on Santaâs special listâŚâ Ashton nipped your bottom lip in return, stifling your moan with his own lips. âSantaâs very special list for the hottest, naughtiest, sexiest Mommy on EarthâŚâ
âShall we check this Naughty List out? Just to be sure Iâm on it?â you tugged on the pompom of Ashtonâs hat, at which he quickly picked you up, shutting off the lights as he left the kitchen and the living room, moving to the bedroom with you.
âIt is my pleasure, baby. Santa Daddyâs gonna make sure youâre punished or rewarded accordingly.â
It never felt this satisfying, making the top of the Naughty List.

authorâs note: I've been quiet for so long, but I'm finally back! It's the blog's 2nd birthday and I wanted to post something small and cute and definitely something that goes along with the upcoming holiday. So enjoy a glimpse into the life of Levi and Ashton.
- - - - -
The moment Levi started to understand and explore the world around him Ashton turned into super dad. It wasnât that he didnât adore his little man before that, but when he found that his son started to learn and enjoy the small things in life Ashton decided that he wanted to be a part of all of his adventures before he grew up too fast.
And with Halloween approaching the search for the perfect costume started as well. Ash spent a lot of time going through options with Levi, trying to find out what he wanted to be on his first real holiday â he was way too small the previous years to have any actual thoughts about dressing up as something, but now being a two-year old he had an opinion on everything. Even his uncles tried to chime in with ideas, many of which included anime characters or each other, just for the fun of it. You left them to brainstorm on the perfect costume while secretly looking through other options as well, just in case you needed to do a quick run to the store to pick up something for your son.
One night, after you and Ash put Levi to bed, he excused himself that he had some work to do, and disappeared in his studio, locking the door behind his back. This wasnât anything new, he had done this plenty of times before, and you didnât even pay any attention to it, not even when he emerged after midnight to climb into bed, falling asleep the moment his head hit the pillow. But after the third night things started to turn suspicious â the amount of boxes disappearing from the garage, the many shopping trips, a melody heâs been humming on and off throughout the day. Ashtonâs been up to something.
It was just 2 days before Halloween when curiosity finally got the best of you, and once Levi was down for his afternoon nap you padded down the stairs, hoping that your husband forgot to turn the lock on the basement door. You still felt the need to lightly knock on the wood when you found it open an inch or two, and only slipped inside when Ash gave you the okay.
What you didnât expect was him sitting on the floor with boxes and rolls of tinfoil scattered around him, scissors, glue and tape at the ready next to some colourful papers and something that looked like a face shield taken from a helmet. And if that wasnât enough of a surprise, then the photos stuck to the corkboard next to him sure were.
âAm I interrupting?â you settled down next to him on the floor, watching as he tried to cover a piece of cardboard with some tinfoil.
âIâm just⌠trying to make a costume for Levi,â he finally sighed, cursing under his breath when the foil tore under his fingers. âIâm clearly useless.â
âAre those pictures from Amnesia?â you picked up a printed paper from the table, eyes taking in the young guy on it, sporting a home-made astronaut costume and a helmet, chilling next to a pool. âYouâre doing your costume for Levi?â your voice turned excited at the thought.
âIt was his idea,â Ashtonâs cheeks turned pink and he rubbed at his neck and face, trying to take the attention off of him. âWe were listening to the song in the car and I mentioned that we had a video for it, and he wanted to see it. Thought it was harmless so I showed it to him. He told me after that he wanted to be âjust like daddyâ in the video. So Iâve been trying to recreate it since then. You know, making it as authentic as it can be, but also way cooler cause itâs Levi. Heâs the coolest little dude.â
âThatâs the cutest shit Iâve seen you doing, and Iâve seen a lot of things,â you giggled, leaning over to press a kiss on his lips. âYou are absolutely the most wonderful human being on this planet.â
âOh, shut up,â Ash laughed out loud, but you could see him glowing from the praise. âI just want him to have a good experience on his first real Halloween. I have already arranged with the guys and some others that we can go trick or treating to them. I donât want to take him to some strangerâs house, I donât know how he would take that. But going to Cal and Luke and Mike â those are safe options.â
âAnd you can also show off your amazing skills as a costume designer,â you bit back your chuckle, reaching for his hand and squeezing it. âYouâre doing amazing, Ash. Really, truly amazing.â
âI didnât get to have this, soâŚâ he tried to shrug it off, and you scooted closer to snuggle against his side, your arm wrapping around his waist.
âWe will have this together then,â you pressed another kiss on his cheek, and you could feel him leaning into you. âYou and me and Levi. He already looks at you like youâve hung the Moon and all the stars. Kind of a big accomplishment if you ask me.â
âGuess I have to get my shit together to finish this up, huh?â his lips pulled into a cheeky smile before nuzzling his nose with yours. âBefore you finish it and then I lose my position as the coolest parent.â
âHow about I help you with some tips and maybe give a handâŚâ
ââŚor a handjobâŚâ
ââŚand when you finish up the astronaut costume then maybe you can get a handjob,â you pursed your lips and Ash slotted his own against them, a light groan escaping him.
âThat will take hours.â
âThen you better hurry up, daddy, because we will also need costumes for the trick or treating,â you patted his thigh, already reaching for the picture again to try and figure out where you should go with the next step.
âI mean, Iâll put on a NASA shirt and we get something space-y for you as well, and you can be the mother ship,â he grinned at you, and you needed to stifle your laugh against your hand.
âI take it back, you are the worst,â you shook your head with a smile as well.
âNo take-backs,â it was his turn to press a kiss on your cheek, rubbing his stubble against it. âI love you.â
âLove you too. Now come on, we have a lil astronaut to ship to outer space,â you grabbed the previously discarded tinfoil to cover the cardboard piece. âEven if that outer space is just Calâs backyard.â
âHe promised to put up stars for him! Leviâs gonna have so much fun!â Ash started babbling excitedly while you got back to work, and deep down you already knew your son was going to have the time of his life trick or treating in the home-made astronaut costume that Ashton had put together.
As it turned out, Levi really was the coolest little dude on the block â even his uncles agreed. And that didnât happen often.

Ashton told himself that he's not going to cry. No, he was tough as nails, he's been through everything at this point and really, there wasn't much that could surprise him or make him emotional. But when Lottie gave him the sparkly invitation to her first dance recital Ashton needed to swallow back tears of how fast his little girl was growing up.
He made sure to clear his schedule for that night - he didn't want to be that dad, the one that promised to go and then never show up. His knees were bouncing as he waited for you to take a seat next to him after you checked if Lottie was dressed and prepared for her first real performance.
"Is she nervous?" Ashton bit his lip, trying to catch the little kids lining up behind the curtain, wanting to see his little girl.
"I think daddy's more nervous," you giggled, kissing his cheek. "My world famous drummer."
Ashton blushed, a smile pulling at his lips as he grabbed your hand, both of you waiting for the music to start. The sleeve of his black shirt was stained with tears as he tried to quickly dry them, not wanting anyone to catch him turning into a mess at seeing his baby girl dancing up on stage. He thought he was proud of his own accomplishments - never would have he thought that he could feel like this for his little girl. He was the proudest dad in the crowd - if not on the face of the Earth.
this literally just popped in my head right now, Iâve been meaning to get back to my clementine series so hopefully this sparks some more!Â

warnings: ominous musings from ashton
Enjoy! :)
***
Ashtonâs favorite part of the day is waking up to Clementineâs soft rousing's of her alerting her parents sheâs awake and ready to start the day. He always kisses Y/N ordering her gently to get more sleep while he goes to their daughter. He pads across the hall to Clementineâs room and finds her sitting up in her crib, her curls and dimpled grin imprinted in his memory.
âHi my baby love, did you have a good sleep?â he coos quietly and leans over the railing. She claps her hands at seeing her daddyâs smiling face then raises her arms up. âThereâs my big girl,â he picks her up effortlessly into his arms.
He kisses her head on his way to her changing table and hands her the turquoise drumsticks Luke brought her. They go with a toy drum set but sheâd much rather hold them in her hands then smack the plastic drums. She starts to babble around the drumsticks, her big beautiful eyes staring up at him.
âYeah, thatâs what you dreamt about? I hope mommy and I were with you,â he comments with her and grabs a new diaper. âIâll make you some breakfast and then when mommy wakes up, maybe we could go for a walk to the park.â
Clementine kicks her legs and it makes Ashton giggle because her movements make it hard for him to fasten her diaper.Â
When sheâs all clean he hums to her all the way downstairs, singing softly as he gets her bottle from the fridge. He flips the switch on his coffeemaker and sets Clementine on her blanket at the edge of the living room so he can watch her and hands her the bottle. She takes it and starts to drink away happily.
âYouâre such a big girl, darling,â he praises how advanced she is for only 3 months.Â
He whistles while he gets the fruits and coconut water sorted in the blender for Y/N when she wakes. He adds the ice and presses the puree button watching the fruits blend and mix in one creamy pink color. He pours it into a large glass then sets it in the fridge.
Ashton gets his mug out just as the coffee maker stops brewing and pours the black liquid energy into his mug. Clementine watches him when he makes his way back to her, her mouth pops off the bottle and she raises her arms towards him again.Â
âShould we sit outside while we have our coffee, darling?â He lifts her in his arms again and opens the back door. The grass tickles his toes and then the warm stones of their garden warm him up immediately.Â
He sits down easily on the egg chair, Clementine fitting perfectly on his lap. He kisses the top of her head and tries to smooth down her curls blowing softly in the morning breeze. She rests her body against his comfortably and continues to drink heartily. The fish are swimming in circles in the newly upgraded pond, a task that took all weekend with the help of Luke and Calum.
Y/N and Clementine watched from a blanket as Ashton directed them on what to do and got a little upset when they couldnât see his vision. Clementine kept trying to go over to her daddy and when Y/N saw how distraught Ashton was, she let Clementine crawl her way over.Â
âWell, hiya Clem!â Calum grinned down at her, she pulled herself up using Ashtonâs legs for support.Â
Ashton softened immediately at the sight of his baby girl and hoisted her onto the place on his waist reserved for her. The three men took a well deserved baby break, both Luke and Calum acting silly just to get Clem to laugh.Â
Clementine sighs and lets go of her bottle, it rolls onto the space next to Ashton on the chair.
âAll finished baby love?â he rubs at her belly and she grabs hold of his leather bracelet.Â
They sit outside until heâs finished with his own coffee and then he sets her back on her blanket with a few toys. Y/Nâs still not up yet but she should be soon. Ashton is starting to get worried because sheâs becoming very tired again.
He sits down at his piano and starts to play an upbeat, but quiet melody to try and rouse her awake. Clementine squeals behind him, she loves music.Â
âCan you sing for me, baby?â he calls to her and she starts to sing in her own way. Ashtonâs giggling and hopes Y/N wakes up soon to get Clementine on video.Â
Itâs when Clementine stops making noise that Ashton turns around to see her pulling out the gardening books from the wooden crate against the wall. Ashton takes his phone out quickly snapping a picture just as Y/N emerges.Â
âYou two having a party without me?â Y/N smiles tiredly.
Upon hearing her voice, Clementine stops her pillaging and turns around with a big smile.Â
âHi my sweet girl! Did you eat breakfast already?â She asks moving slower than normal to pick Clementine up.
Ashton admires his girls. He tries to ignore the way Y/Nâs body shook as she stood up, and how her body appears thinner. Her sleep shirt falls off her shoulder and when he looks at her face, he sees beauty obviously, but something else. He canât quite put his finger on it. Is it her eyes?
âDid daddy make me my smoothie?â Y/N asks then walks over to him on his piano bench.Â
âOf course I did,â Ashton smiles up at her. She cups his cheek in her cold hand placing his own hand on her hip. âItâs in the fridge. I told Clem we should go for a walk to the park.â
âIâd like that. Iâll pack some snacks for you,â she bends down to kiss Ashtonâs forehead before walking away.
Ashton watches her, a gnawing feeling in the pit of his stomach sending signals that something is wrong with how he could feel her hip bone.

You still felt shaky and sensitive as Ashton kissed into your neck, his nose nuzzled against your cheek as his hips lazily thrusted into you, making sure that he gave you every last drop of his cum. He sighed happily as he finally stilled, his face buried in your neck and you ran your fingers through his hair, brushing through the messy locks. A kiss was pressed against your lips as he mumbled a quiet "stay baby", thumbs stroking your skin as he slowly pulled out, pushing a pillow under your hips which made you giggle.
"You're so silly," you laughed, trying to find a comfortable position as he went to the bathroom for a washcloth.
"Am not," he gave you a mock pout as he kneeled on the bed in front of you, already in his boxers, and started to softly clean your thighs, thumb lightly swiping between your folds to push his cum back inside you. "Just trying to get us pregnant."
"I know, love," you gave him a loving look and a squeeze to his hand. "You're just doing your part in creating Baby Irwin."
"Hmmmhh, yes I am," Ashton leaned forward to press a kiss between your breasts, then another one on your belly button. "I'll get you a shirt, okay?"
You just nodded and he disappeared in your shared closet to get you something to wear, helping you pull it on without making you move too much, then settled next to you, tucking the blanket around your body as he snuggled close. He pressed a kiss on your cheek as his hand slowly sneaked under your shirt, his palm resting against your belly.
"Do you think this is the night?" he pushed his face close to yours, and you nuzzled against him, lightly humming as you brushed your lips against his.
"Maybe. You sure made me take everything," you felt Ashton blush a little, giggling as he rubbed your belly.
"Not taking chances, baby," his fingers curled into your hair, playing with the silky strands as he spoke. "But if you're unsure we can give it another try in the morning."
"Who knew you would be so into getting me pregnant?" you chuckled, pulling him close for a kiss.
"I just love you," Ashton whispered, thumb brushing over your cheek as he kissed you too. "And I-- just wanna start our own little family. You and me and Baby Irwin #1, and Baby Irwin #2 and..."
"Don't you dare go on," you put your hand over his mouth and he laughed, kissing your palm.
"Alright baby, I hear you. Let's just focus on one."
"We can try again tomorrow," you snuggled close to his chest and Ashton curled his arms around you, kissing the top of your head. "If for nothing else, then just because I love having sex with you."
"Hmm, you're not the only one," he gave one more loving rub to your belly. "But I wouldn't mind finally putting a baby into you."
I think you should work on Dad!Sos. Its always fun to write something cute and fluffy.
well, say hi to dad!Ashton and Lottie Bear. đĽşđđť

âLook at that yawn!â Ashton pretended to be surprised, giving his biggest smile to the little girl sitting in his lap. âAre you tired, Lottie Bear?â
âNo Dada,â Lottie stifled her next yawn against Ashtonâs shirt, resting her head against his chest, her tiny fist reaching out towards the laptop screen. âUncle time.â
âI think you had plenty of uncle time today, sweetie,â he chuckled, kissing her curly hair as he wrapped his arm more tightly around her. âWe gotta say goodnight to them. Itâs bath time for you, Lottie Bear.â
âYes baby, itâs bath time for all of us,â Calum nodded on the other side, pulling Duke into the screen to show him to Lottie. âUncle Cal needs to bathe Duke as well, so he can go to bed all clean and good smelling. Just like you, sweetie.â
âDuke,â the little girl tried to reach for the screen again, and all the men chuckled at her action.
âIâm sure Uncle Cal will let you come over for a play date with Duke,â Luke smiled at Lottie, pulling Petunia into the screen too. âThat, if we donât invite you over sooner!â
âDonât listen to them, Lottie! I have two dogs you can play with,â Michael tried to raise the bet while Ashton rolled his eyes at them.
âAlright losers, last round,â he shook his head lovingly, adjusting his daughter in his lap as she got more tired. âSay goodnight, Lottie Bear.â
âGooâ nâght,â Lottie yawned again, waving at her uncles who all smiled and wished her sweet dreams before Ashton said goodbye too, signing off.
He gathered the little girl into his arms, making his way towards the bathroom, ready to give her a quick bath and put her to bed before she fell asleep in his arms â again. Ashton absolutely adored Lottie (âCharlotte Amelie Irwin, Lottie for shortâ as he always told people,) who had him wrapped around her tiny little finger even before she was born. Her uncles were quickly lost as well, all three of them turning into mush when it came to their niece. You were sure about one thing â you never needed to worry about babysitters ever again.
âDuckies?â Ashton held up the yellow toys to Lottie, making them give out a squeaky sound as he pushed his fingers against the rubber, and Lottie giggled in the tub, making Ashton smile at her again.
Bath time always felt special to Ashton â there were weeks when he was so busy that he couldnât make it home in time, missing everything between dinner and story time, usually arriving when Lottie was already falling asleep in her bed. Heâs been working hard to schedule his time around Lottieâs day, and the guys were absolutely helpful in that, always making sure he gets to spend as much time with his daughter as he could. He didnât know how to thank them, but he was sure that once one of them becomes a father as well, he will be able to repay all the kindness theyâve showed him.
His heartâs been full with love towards the little person playing in the water, splashing around in her bubble bath, making Ashtonâs shirt soaked in seconds, but he didnât mind it at all. He just laughed with Lottie, stroking his fingers through her curly locks. Heâs been trying to figure out how was it possible to love someone this much, how could something so tiny and precious make him run out of words when he tried to describe what it was like loving Lottie. Ashton hoped that some day he will be able to put those feelings into words.
When Lottie started to yawn again, her eyes blinking rapidly as she tried to stay awake, Ashton decided that it was time to finish up, so he quickly wrapped the little girl in her favourite hooded towel (one that had cute bear ears with a little face as well, hence her nickname Lottie Bear), and took her to her room to start on the last part of their nightly routine. Ashton chose some yellow PJs for Lottie, lightly tickling her sides as he pulled them on her, then kissed her cheek, nuzzling his nose against her tiny one.
âBunny?â Lottie held Ashtonâs face between her tiny hands, blinking at her dad tiredly.
âBunny is in your bed, sweetie. Should we get him?â he wrapped his arms around her, holding her against his chest as she nodded. âAlright, letâs find Bunny!â
The orange rabbit plush was a gift from her uncles on her very first birthday, and sheâs been sleeping with the toy ever since, making it her most prized possession. Ashton was ready to put her to bed, but when Lottie didnât want to let go of him, he just picked the toy up, giving it to her. Lottie wrapped her small arms around Bunny, cuddling up to her dadâs chest again as Ash made his way out of her room and into the one you shared, lying back down against the pillows as he tucked the blanket he brought with himself around her body.
âYou wanna sleep with Dada and Mama?â he lightly tapped Lottieâs nose who scrunched it, making her look exactly like the two of you which made Ashtonâs heart burst with even more love.
âStory, Dada,â she whispered, her tiny fist holding onto Ashtonâs shirt.
âOf course, sweetie,â Ashton smiled, already coming up with a new adventure for Bunny as Lottie snuggled up to his chest, already half asleep.
It only took him 5 minutes to lull the little girl to sleep, her tiny sounds letting him know that she was out like a light. He listened to her breathing as he lightly rubbed her back, fixing the blanket around her so she didnât get cold during the night. There was a light tap coming from the door, and Ashton looked up, his eyes meeting yours.
âAm I interrupting?â you smiled at him, making your way towards the bed.
âHey you,â he tilted his head up, welcoming the kiss you pressed against his lips before you lay down on the other side of your sleeping little girl. âHow was your girlsâ night out?â
âMade me terribly miss the two of you,â you confessed, curling a lock of Lottieâs hair around your finger, lightly brushing it behind her ear. âI lasted 2 hours. How was your night?â
âWe had uncle time and promises of doggy dates,â Ashton smiled at you, running his fingers through your hair as well. âThen we took a duckie bath, and went on the next adventure with Bunny before falling asleep.â
âIâm sure you had fun,â you nuzzled against Ashtonâs hand, and he hummed in agreement. âDid she want to sleep with us?â
âHhmmh,â Ashton nodded, looking between Lottie and you. âGuess she was missing Mama too.â
âWell, Mama is home now,â you leaned over to kiss Ashtonâs cheek, pressing your lips against Lottieâs curly hair as well before curling your arm around her tiny body. âYou wanna go and shower?â
âIâm good, thanks. Just wanna be with my girls,â he shifted a little on the bed, pulling the sheets up over you, wrapping his arm around the two of you as much as he could. âAs much as I love my special father-daughter time with her, the best is when itâs the three of us. My own little family.â
âLove you, Ash,â you sighed happily, eyes already closing as you let your body relax now that you were home with them. âGood night, baby. Good night, love.â
âGood night, love,â Ashton brushed his lips against your forehead before he did the same with the sleeping little girl, watching as the two of you were already fast asleep. âGood night, Lottie Bear. Love you both.â
Part 3 of my little Dad Calum series featuring Lucy. This is fairly PG-13, mentions of sex and pregnancy and the girlfriends.
Youâre ready to tell your daughter Lucy sheâs going to have a new sibling, but you and Calum are worried how sheâll react to the news. Both you and your husband think back to when you learned you were expecting Lucy, and how truly unexpected life can be.
"Whatcha making babe?â Calum grabbed the pitcher of sweet tea from the fridge, ducking around the island to stay out of your way.
âCookies and cream cupcakes for Saturday. Kay's overwhelmed being stuck in the house with three kids, I guess four if you count Ashton. I think itâs better for everyone involved if I volunteer my services. Wouldnât you agree, your majesty?â Â
âWhat are you-ah, I forgot,â he laughed, removing the plastic crown from his head. Heâd been playing dress-up with Lucy to keep her occupied. âAre you saying Kay canât cook?â He poured himself a glass before moving to the faucet and refilling Lucyâs water bottle, screwing the lid back on.
âI am not saying that, but Iâm not saying she can either. I remain neutral about the subject for the record,â you responded as you weighed out your dry ingredients.
âVery diplomatic, not at all like you,â he teased, leaning with his back to the counter watching you work.
âWhat can I say? Iâm in a good mood, I got laid last night.â You shrugged while turning away from him to check your mixer and add the oil and eggs. When you bent down to grab the muffin tin, you heard a low whistle behind you, making you shake your head.
âStop it,â you protest, âI look like a potato right now.â
âDonât you dare,â Calum scolded, scowling at you.
You paused, looking back at him, momentarily confused at his sudden change in his demeanor until you saw the little crinkles around his eyes giving him away.
âThatâs my wife youâre talking about. Those are fighting words.â You could feel his presence behind you, close but not touching. His voice a low rumble next to your ear, his breath tickling your skin.
âYouâd fight a pregnant woman? I thought you were a gentleman.â You turned around, batting your eyes at him.
His fingers grazed your jawline before cupping your chin. âYou are most fortunate, for while I would fight to the death for my Queenâs honor, I could never strike a lady,â he proclaimed, adopting a Scottish accent that never failed to give you giggles. He leaned in closer, dropped the accent, and lowered his voice, both in tone and volume.
âDoesnât mean I wonât bend you over give you a spanking if you donât watch that mouth.â
You shivered despite the heat in the kitchen from the oven. Or was it something else? His lips were so close, so tempting, and the next thing you knew you were on your tiptoes going in for a kiss. His hands slid around your waist and his thigh pressed between your legs.
âWhy are you kissing? You said I could have a drink, Daddy,â Lucy interrupted before you got too carried away.
âIâve got your cup right here, Lulu,â Calum said over his shoulder. Turning back to you, he whispered, âIâll take care of you later.â
âFeels like you need taken care of yourself, Daddy,â you purr in his ear, brushing against his crotch with your hip as you turn back to your cake.
âYouâre gonna get it later,â he hissed.
âPromises, promises,â you reply.
You turned towards where your daughter was waiting for her dad to return to their game. You stifled a laugh at the sight of her, hands on her hips, her toes brushing the edge of the tile floor, knowing the kitchen was off limits without permission. She made quite a sight in her yellow princess Belle dress, and green butterfly wings sheâd squished her pigtails into her blue sparkle crown to keep it somewhat balanced while wielding a light saber.Â
Lucy loved making up characters and thanks to after Halloween sales she had a trunk full of costumes and accessories. Queen Koa, Ruler of the Butterflies, was her new favorite. Since they brought Astro home last week she even had a sidekick. The only costume that fit the corgi/shepherd mix was a pair of reindeer ears from the previous Christmas, and while he patiently wore the headband, the dog did not look pleased.
âIâm coming, Lulu, weâll leave Mommy to finish her baking. Come on, Max, weâre hitting up Whoville in the morning.â
âHeâs not Max Daddy, heâs Astro,â Lucy scolded, shaking her finger at him.
You rolled your lips in tightly to keep the smile off your face and turned away so she wouldnât see. Lucy was a handful and a half already, and she definitely didnât need her sass encouraged. Â
âAre you making cupcakes for me?â Lucy asked, spotting the paper muffin cups in your hand.
âIâm making cupcakes for Annieâs birthday, Saturday,â you answered.
âAnnie is my other best friend, sheâs gonna be five,â Lucy told Astro before turning back to you. âWhen do I turn five Mommy?â
âYou know that Lulu, your birthday is in two months,â Calum reminded her.
âCan we pretend itâs my birthday? Then I can have cupcakes and presents.â Lucy tugged on her dadâs pant leg, turning her pleading dark eyes on him.
âI think you get enough presents, sweetpea. You just got a dog five days ago. Thatâs a big present for it not being your birthday.â
âYou buy Mommy presents all the time, and itâs not her birthday,â Lucy pouted.
Calum reached down and pushed her bottom lip back in before scooping her up, careful not to knock off her wings.
âThatâs because sheâs the love of my life, thatâs why I married her. Mommy takes such good care of all of us, and I want to make sure she knows how much I love her. She gave me the best present Iâve ever received. She gave me you,â he told her, tickling her ribs and making her giggle.
âSo you donât get divorced like Uncle Luke?â Lucy asked, and you exchanged concerned looks with your husband. Lucy questioned everything. Recently, she and Annie, the eldest of Ashtonâs three girls, discovered the concept of divorce and kept bringing it up.
âIâve told you sweetpea, you donât have to worry about that. Now letâs go play and leave Mommy alone. Maybe sheâll let us have a cupcake later,â Calum winked at you before setting Lucy back down. As he did her wings knocked over his tea glass, spilling the bit of remaining liquid onto the counter.
âIâll be there in a second, let me wipe this up,â Calum told her, but she stayed where she was.
He reached across you to grab a paper towel, and you couldnât resist landing a kiss on his bicep as he did. He paused and flexed his muscle allowing his t-shirt sleeve to ride up revealing a line of slightly paler skin.
âCome on, Daddy,â Lucy whined.
You kissed him a second time, right on his tattoo of Lucyâs baby footprints. You then gave him a little nip on the tattoo just above it, a brightly colored geometric floral design which he let you pick out. Heâd gotten the ink when he took you to Costa Rica after being kept apart ten weeks by a lockdown. You had a similar flower on your shoulder, right where Calum landed his own quick kiss, leaving a heated spot on your skin despite the fabric of your shirt. Â
âIâll take care of you later babe, after she goes down for the night,â you whisper.
âNot if I get to you first,â he growled before grabbing his crown and following Lucy and Astro back towards the playroom.
*******
The vacation to Costa Rica was the first vacation youâd taken without any of the other guys, and for the first two days youâd barely seen anything past the walls of your bedroom. Finally, on day three youâd dragged Calum, who pouted but went along with you, to peruse the shops and wander the beach. Heâd found the tattoo shop and after talking to the artist, heâd convinced you to get one along with him.
The artist inverted the color palette of Calumâs design for your tattoo when Calum had explained how you were opposite expressions of the same thought. Heâd held your hand the whole time, and youâd been so giddy from his presence you didnât remember feeling any pain. Afterwards heâd taken you out to a restaurant overlooking the beach.
Youâd split a bottle of wine with dinner before walking back to your beachfront cabana. Calumâs cheeks were flushed red as he kissed you and pulled you into the hammock tied up on the screened-in veranda. You shifted so your head was resting on his chest with his arm behind your neck. At first you were both quiet, listening to the waves crashing and the faint sounds of other tourists in the distance. You were getting drowsy, but then Calum began talking. He started by going through all the ways heâd kept himself occupied during the previous couple of months. He told you heâd been trying to write while stuck at home, but boredom combined with anxiety didnât birth creativity. You were so enchanted with the sound of listening to his voice that you werenât concentrating on his words and almost missed it.
âThat morning was when I finally realized that I was in love with you,â he confessed.
In that moment your world contracted, time seemed to stop, all other noise ceased as your brain focused solely on him. He pressed you against him skin to skin so you could feel his heart racing and knew he could feel yours. You had barely let yourself imagine this happening.
The past eight months had been the happiest youâd ever been in a relationship. You were hopelessly smitten since heâd kissed in the car after your first date. Heâd given you every sign he was seriously into you. You slowly met the friend group, first Ashton for coffee, followed by dinner at The Cliffordâs house and finally, Disneyland with the group. Six weeks ago, his sisterâs trip to the US was canceled, delaying your chance to meet his family.
The way you caught him staring at you or playing with your hair when he thought you were sleeping. The small gifts and notes he sent you from around the world when he traveled, when he found something that reminded him of you. Staying up late discussing life and love and later hearing your own words woven into the lyrics of a song. Experimenting with different pancake recipes to make you breakfast because you hated the smell of cooked eggs. Calum showed you he loved you before he ever found the courage to say it.
The words made it real. Your throat constricted in fear, as his words made you admit the enormity of your own feelings. Everyone youâd ever loved had used it against you. You shifted, lifting your head from his chest so you could look into his eyes. You felt a twinge of pain seeing the same apprehension and fear of falling you were feeling. Despite that, Calum was trusting you with his heart, and if he would hold your hand, you were ready to jump with him.
âWhat did you say?â You whispered, needing to make sure you heard him correctly.
Calum frowned, disappointed you hadnât been listening. You shift again, moving in the hammock so you were lying on top of him.
âI heard you, but can you please say it again,â you were embarrassed how squeaky your voice sounded in your own ears.
Calum smiled again, and the sight made you flush warm and tingle all over.
âI said I realized I was in love with you. Iâve been in love with you for quite some time. I was too chickenshit to say it, and I knew youâd never say it unless I did first.â Calum paused, biting his lip, waiting to see how youâd respond.
âYou know me so well, another reason I love you.â He met your words with a kiss, followed by many more kisses. After some careful maneuvering to get out of the hammock, Calum pulled you into bed and showed you the love he struggled so hard to put into words.
You remembered every electric detail of that night and thinking about it made you squeeze your thighs together, standing there covered in cake flour. Calum swore it was that night, making love for the first time after his confession, tangled in each other, looking down at you, and proclaiming his love as he found his high, your daughter was conceived.
You smiled to yourself as you measured out the cupcake batter, trying to remember how many times as youâd made love on that trip. You made yourself stop thinking about it. You had to open the freezer and let cold air calm you down a bit. This pregnancy had your hormones raging and if not for Lucy youâd call your husband into the kitchen to have his way with you for the next 22-25 minutes.
*******
Lucyâs eyes went wide when she saw the bright wrapping paper and bows as Calum pulled two boxes out from behind his back. Sheâd scarfed down the cupcake youâd given her for dessert. It was no mystery where she inherited her sweet tooth from. You spotted crumbs on Calumâs shirt, and heâd already stolen one earlier, before you even frosted them.
She began clapping gleefully and bouncing in her chair, âPretend birthday, birthday, birthday,â she sang out, catching Astroâs attention.
The dog wandered over and rested his chin on her chair. You pulled her out of her booster seat, took her hand, and the three of you followed Calum into the living room.
âOk Lucy, Astro, come sit down with me,â Calum sat on the floor and placed the packages in front of him.
âYou can help me open my presents, Astro,â Lucy plopped down and grabbed for the closest box.
âHold on now, what have we told you about grabbing without asking?â Calum snatched it out of her reach.
Lucy thought about it a second, her face flashing from outrage to sadness, and you thought she might cry until she saw tears would not sway her father. She frowned, and you saw a stubborn glare settle in that made you cringe a little knowing she got it from you. As she glanced at the presents and back to Calum your daughter decided to skip the theatrics tonight and went straight for her secret weapon. Her brown eyes went wide, and she smiled sweetly.
âPlease, Daddy, can we open my pretend birthday presents? Thank you,â she paused. âI love you, Mommy,â Lucy blinked up at you, covering all her bases.
Calum pretended to think it over until Astro whined and he couldnât keep a straight face any longer. He handed the packages over and Lucy tore into the paper and ripped the lid off the box. She stopped short when she found a folded up garment instead of a toy.
âIts clothes,â she stated, still excited but very much puzzled. She pulled it out and tried to sound out the letters across the front. You and Calum both took time with her each day for âreading timeâ and she was getting good at her ABCs and some small words. She worked out âIâmâ before she needed help with âgoing.â She shushed him and carefully read âto be a bigâ word for word until she got stuck.
âSss sss is,â Calum prompted, and you saw it click in her head.
âSister, itâs sister,â Lucy was so hyped about reading that the meaning wasnât sinking in.
âRead it all together,â he pointed to each word.
âIâm going to be a big sister,â she read out loud. âWhat did Astro get?â Lucy loved presents and unwrapping was her favorite part.
You held back a giggle as Calum shot you a frustrated glance where you sat, still recording the scene. Astroâs present was a smaller box with a bandana. She held it up, recognizing the words that matched her shirt until the last one.
âBrother,â Calum interrupted, a bit impatient now.
âBabe, sheâll get it,â you winked at him from behind your phone. âWhat does it say, Lulu?â
She looked up at you and held it up, posing for the camera with a big grin before turning it back around. âIt says, Iâm going to be a big brother.â Now she was hamming it up and using her Miss Menkin voice from her favorite show, âShe-nanigans.â
âLucy honey, what does yours say?â you asked, trying to keep her attention.
âI told you, Mommy,â she let the tiniest hint of exasperation creep into her voice. âMine says Iâm going to be a big sister.â
âWhat do you think that means, sweetpea?â Calum prodded.
Lucyâs features scrunched up as she pondered it for a second before she looked up at him.
âAre you getting a puppy?â She asked and Calum cracked up at her crestfallen face, which made Lucy mad because he thought he was making fun of her. She still held a grudge against all puppies for the one that peed on her last week, so she was not happy at the thought of them getting one. Â
He tried to apologize and pull himself together, but she squirmed away and came to you almost in tears.
âMommy, I donât want a puppy,â she threw her head in your lap. âPlease donât give Astro back to the fosters.â
âLucy, sweetheart, please donât get upset.â You pulled her up onto the couch with you as Astroâs wet snout nudged your ankles. You glanced at Calum who had stopped laughing and now had the hiccups. He was fumbling for his phone since youâd put yours down. âAstro isnât a foster puppy. Heâs part of our family now, heâs got going anywhere, I promise. I need him to watch out for you and the baby.â You gave your belly a pat and smiled at her. The words hit with a jolt and her hands fluttered up to her face.
âYouâre gonna have a baby?â Lucy asked, her eyes dropping to your stomach. âLike Aunt Kay?â She leaned over and placed her hand on your belly the way Kay taught her.
You held your breath, waiting for her reaction. Annie cried both times when they told her she would be a big sister, but it had delighted Kat. Lucyâs face broke into an enormous smile and she leaned down to kiss your stomach.
âHi baby,â she said before you scooped her up for a hug.
She gave you a hug before hopping off the couch and jumping up and down in place. This got Astro riled up, and he started bouncing on his front paws, throwing his head back and barking at the ceiling. She ran over to Calum and tried to hold still so he could pull her big sister shirt on over her clothes. She chattered excitedly into the camera, telling her Nana Joy about how she was gonna be a big sister.
âI wanna call Nana Joy,â the whine that crept into your daughterâs voice made you check the clock, and sure enough it was almost bedtime.
You started to get up, but your husband stopped you.
âIâve got this darling, you need to rest,â Calum told you.
âIâm fine, Cal,â you insisted, standing up. âWhile you put her in bed, Iâm gonna finish up in the kitchen so Iâm not worrying about it later.â
âSay goodnight sweetpea, itâs bedtime. Weâll call Nana Joy tomorrow and we can all tell her together,â Calum told her as he cleaned up the torn paper and discarded ribbon.
âGoodnight mama,â Lucy looked up at you as she wrapped herself around your legs. She reached up and patted your belly. âGoodnight baby.â
Your heart melted at the gesture and you bent down to give her a kiss before sending her off with her dad.
âCan I have a story and a song?â Lucy asked, and you knew Calum wouldnât be back for a while.
You puttered around in the kitchen, loading the dishwasher and making overnight oatmeal for Lucyâs breakfast. You could hear the faintest sound of Calum whistling and you grinned, picking up the tune yourself. âLittle Surprisesâ was Lucyâs favorite song and one of the bandâs biggest hits. Not to mention your one and only number one hit as they used your whistle on the track, giving you a writing credit.
Ashton heard you whistling at Calum one night while visiting the guys in the studio, three weeks after youâd gotten back from Costa Rica. Heâd made you record the cadence while everyone else took a break to eat. Calum was waiting outside the booth with a kiss and a plate of food. Ashton was fussing over Kay, who had a paper plate with two slices of pepperoni pizza carefully balanced on her hugely pregnant belly. She was set to have the baby any day now, and Ashton refused to let her out of his sight. The baby bag was resting in the corner, ready to go at a momentâs notice.
You settled next to Kay on the couch while the guys sprawled on the floor. You hadnât cared for her when youâd first met. She reminded you too much of yourself, boisterous and opinionated whereas Sierra and Crystal were much more chill. Youâd sorted things out over a love of hockey and Wednesday ladiesâ night at Kyoto Sushi. You realized however that she needed a forceful personality to be with a man like Ashton. Ashton was prone to dark moods, as he called them, and sheâd been his rock when heâd crumbled just weeks before their wedding. Ashton had recovered in time and then managed to get his new wife pregnant on their honeymoon. You had no doubt her ability to find serenity amongst chaos would serve her well juggling a new baby and Ashton.
You looked at your plate and your stomach turned at the sight of the grease congealing on top of the gooey cheese. You pushed the pizza to the side in favor of the salad. You nibbled on a cucumber, listening to the guys until you caught Kay looking at you with narrowed eyes.
âAre you ok?â She asked dipping her pizza crust into the cup of garlic butter sauce and you laughed at how happy she looked. Sheâd mostly stuck to a super healthy diet throughout her pregnancy, but pizza was her weakness. Normally youâd be fighting her for the garlic knots and she noticed.
âYeah, Iâve just had terrible heartburn this past week. Iâve eaten two rolls of Tums in three days,â you told her.
âAre you sure youâre not pregnant?â Kay joked, âbecause that was me seven months ago. My doctor put me on famotadine. It saved my life.â She fished a bottle out of her bag and handed you a pill.
âWhat the hell, donât try to curse me just because you got knocked up,â you felt your cheeks get hot as you mentally counted backwards to your last period.
Her eyes met yours before they dropped to your belly, then Kay winked at you and laughed. You looked over at Calum who was laughing along with her until he caught your expression. His eyebrows shot up in a question but before he said anything he glanced around remembering where you were. Kay yelped with pain, drawing everyoneâs attention to her.
âWooo that was a big kick. Your daughter has strong legs babe,â Kay laughed and conversation picked back up. Ashton got up to check on her, unable to keep his hands off his wife for very long.
She thinks Iâm pregnant? Holy shit, what if sheâs right? You didnât want to think about it. Calum picked up on your change in mood and nudged your knee and motioned for you to lean down.
âEverything good?â He asked, and you kissed his cheek.
âYeah, yeah, yeah, everythingâs fine,â you replied, but you were trying to do the math in your head.
Calum grabbed your hand and brushed his lips across the back of your fingers.
âWeâll leave soon. I think Kayâs reached her limit for the day,â He nodded towards Ashton, helping his wife make her way to the bathroom.
You watched Michael drag Calum back into the booth to work on something. Ashton came back in trying to whistle your tune, but he kept messing up the middle.
You whistled back, hitting the notes in order. âI want a writing credit for that,â you told him.
âTell your boyfriend to write something then. Heâs helped fuck all with lyrics lately. Hard for him to write when heâs happy,â he teased, but you felt a little guilty.
Ashton saw your frown, and he plopped down next to you on the couch.
âHey,â he nudged your knee with his. âCalumâs really happy, Iâve never seen him like this before, and that can be hard to write. Turmoil, heartbreak, anger, those are much easier, and thatâs why we have Luke. Weâve been riding that codependency train for a few albums now.â
You were skeptical. âYouâve been writing, and youâre happy.â
âIâm thrilled,â Ashton grinned at you, âbut Iâm also fucking terrified. I canât believe weâre gonna have a little girl. Who decided I was grown enough to be in charge of a baby?â
âYouâre gonna be fine. Youâll make a great dad, and besides, Kay will not let things get too out of hand,â you told him.
He reached his arm around you and gave you a little squeeze. âIâm glad youâre here,â he said. He tried to whistle again, frustrated when he couldnât get it right. Â
âKeep trying, youâll get it,â you laughed as he pouted.
Ashton never got it, neither did Luke. Fortunately, Michael and Calum figured it out rather quickly. These days the audience did it for them. You were still whistling as you kicked the dishwasher door shut and Calum walked in just as the water whooshed. Your husband whistled back and began playing air bass and beginning to sing the song.
You hopped up on the counter and watched him bop through the kitchen. You loved watching him on stage. He came alive under the lights, in front of a crowd, playing with his brothers and bandmates. The way he smiled and teased the crowd, sticking his tongue out, his fingers working over the strings, turned you on more than anything else in the world. Although having him singing and dancing in your kitchen looked pretty good right now.
He leaned in for a kiss at the ânever knew love, until I found you,â line, and when your lips met, the song was momentarily forgotten. You pulled him closer, so he stepped between your legs as you wrapped them around his waist. You gave him several quick kisses on the lips before you landed one on his nose. You were kissing your way across his jawline when he whistled again.
âReally?â You laughed as you pulled back to look at him.
âSorry,â he said with a sheepish grin. âItâs really stuck in my head.â
âI was thinking about the night in the studio when Ashton got all pissy when he couldnât get it but Michael could. That night was something else,â you said.
Calumâs eyes got huge. He shook his head, and he exhaled in a rush of air. âThat night, yeah, it was something else all right.â
On the way home from the studio, youâd been quiet. Calum asked you several times if you were ok and you brushed him off until he finally pulled into the parking lot of a CVS Pharmacy.
Calum reached over and rubbed the back of your neck. âI heard what Kay said and youâve been acting weird ever since. How about we get a test and see if thereâs really anything to worry about?â
âWhat if Iâm not ready?â You snapped, hating how you sounded. You knew you were being stubborn, but you got defensive easily. You expected Calum to start an argument or at least get mad. Heâd never had a temper with you, but you kept waiting to see when it would come out. Every man in your life, except Calum, had let you down. You didnât want to be wrong again.
Calum took your hands in his as he looked you in the eye. You could feel his hands tremble, but he didnât let go.
âWhenever youâre ready, this isnât about me. I mean, Iâm involved, but Iâm not going to push you to do anything you donât want. I love you and I want to be with you no matter what. Will you at least come back and stay with me tonight?â
You nodded, and he started the car. You stopped him as he reached for the gearshift. He shut the car off and looked at you. You opened the door and hopped out, not looking back as you made your way into the store. You bought three pregnancy tests and got the female pharmacy tech to ring you up so you could avoid the bored teenage boy playing on his phone working the cash register up front. You rushed back out to the car where Calum was waiting.
âJust drive, please,â you told him. You stared out the window the whole way there, chattering the entire way.
âThis is so dumb. We used protection most of the time and I was only a couple weeks late getting the shot because they canceled on me. They tell me it can take months to get pregnant after being on Depo so thereâs just no way. Kay has my brain scrambled with all her pregnancy energy.â You stopped talking when he turned onto his street, and he reached over and squeezed your knee.
âI have to pee, anyway. Iâll be right back,â you told him.
âYou wanna do this now?â He asked, and you saw the fear he was trying so hard to hold back.
âWould you rather stare at the bag and wonder?â
âYouâre right. Iâll be in the kitchen. Do you want a cup of tea?â Calum asked, and from the way he was fidgeting you knew he wanted a cigarette.
âThanks Cal, why donât you go smoke, and then tea would be nice. Love you babe.â
âI love you more,â he called out, and you heard the backdoor slide open and then close.
You took two tests out of bag and managed not to make too big of a mess peeing in the little cup. You laid the little square piece of plastic out on the sink before you unwrapped the other test and took the cap off the end. You took a deep breath and dipped the rest edge before adding three drops to the test window. You refused to look or even clean up and ran out of the bathroom straight into Calumâs chest where he was waiting. You were shaking, unable to figure out what you were feeling as your emotions whirled and fought for control of your brain. Calum said nothing. He hugged you and stroked your hair, but you could feel his heart racing against your cheek.
"How long do we wait?"
"I forgot to look"
He pulled out his phone and looked it up. "It says three minutes. Has it been three minutes?" Calum asked you.
"I think so."
Calum grabbed your ass, "Jump," he commanded, and you did. He grabbed you under your thighs and carried you into the bathroom with him.
"I can't look," you told him, burying your face in his neck.
You felt his head move, and you waited for him to tell you the results. When he said nothing, when he didn't move but slowly took a deep breath, you knew what it said. You lifted your head to see for yourself, but your vision was too blurry as you tried to hold back tears. Calum set you down, so you were back on your feet and wrapped his arms around you, clutching you to him as you sobbed. When you heard Calum sniffle and felt his chest heave your feelings of guilt overwhelmed the fear. You pushed back, not wanting to let go of Calum, but you had the hiccups and needed to blow your nose if you wanted to breathe.
When you finished you wiped your eyes and finally saw the tests. Both were positive. You sat on the closed toilet lid, unable to look at Calum.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," you told him, and started crying again. "This is all my fault. I should've been more careful."
Calum crouched down in front of you and pulled your hands away from your face. His hands cupped your chin and lifted your eyes to meet his.
"This isn't your fault and there's nothing you have to apologize for. There were two of us in that room, and I'm the one who didn't wear a condom. If anyone should apologize, it's me. It's a bit late for that now. I love you and we'll figure this out together."
You nodded, but you couldn't stop crying. "I love you too, but I'm scared. I don't know if I can do this. I don't know if I know how to do this."
"I'm scared too, and we don't have to figure everything out tonight," Calum stood up and held his hand out. You let him lead you out of the bathroom and into the living room.
"I know how you are, you need time to think and process everything. We don't have to talk, but can you cuddle with me, please? I just really need to be close to you right now."
You sat on the long lounge side of the couch propping yourself up against the armrest and Calum laid against you, his head resting on your shoulder, your hand held in both of his as you turned on the TV. Neither of you paid any attention to the show, both lost in your own minds until you fell asleep holding on to each other. When you woke up Calum was already awake, writing lyrics in his journal.
"Come back to me" Calum stroked your cheek , and you smiled at him. He didn't like to think how afraid of losing you he'd been when he started writing that night. Between your parents multiple divorces and your own rocky history you were more afraid of commitment than he was. Together you'd been able to overcome that fear, but Calum wasn't sure you even wanted kids. The line "nothing scares me except the thought of losing you" was the first line he wrote of what would become "Little Surprises."
"Remember how we were rudely woken up after we finally fell asleep?" Calum asked.
"That 6 am phone call," you shook your head, the melancholy moment drifting away as you remembered the panic when Kay went into labor the next morning. It took 14 hours for Annie to be born, and Ashton didn't leave his wife's side for more than a few minutes. "Remember when Kay said the baby looked like a potato and Ashton got mad when we all laughed."
"Not as mad as when Luke asked if Annabelle Rose was a name they got from Twilight," Calum responded.
"He was completely over the moon with Annie. Remember how he'd hold her like he was afraid she'd break?" You mused, thinking back to Ashton holding his tiny baby girl in those enormous hands, so proud and so nervous.
"We got our first number one hit out of it though," Calum responded.
Ashton managed to tear himself away from his new family after a month to team up with Calum to finish his song. They got it recorded just under the deadline for the album. The fans were in a frenzy leading up to the album's release with the guys telling them this album contained the most personal songs they'd ever written, especially from Calum.
The lead up to "Little Surprises" each of the guys dropped a picture of how their family changed since the last album. Michael posted a sunset pic with his wife, two dogs and a new puppy. Luke posted a behind the scenes look at his dance rehearsals with Sierra for their first waltz as a married couple. Ashton posted a collage of artsy black and white silhouettes of his wife while she was pregnant. Calum was so secretive that no one even knew you were in a serious relationship with him. Â
"I'm still amazed we kept it all a secret," you told him. While some fans suspected something was up, most overlooked you as not being his type.
The fans lost their minds when the day the single dropped Calum released a picture of his then three week old daughter's fingers grasping his thumb. The caption "I'd like you to meet Lucy Koa Hood, I've never been happier. Life's really full of little surprises."
"I believe I made a promise earlier that I intend to keep," Calum raised his eyebrows and pulled you down off the counter. You looked at him, puzzled, as he tugged your hand till you were standing at the far end of the kitchen.
"Turn around," he instructed, and when you did he pushed you up against the kitchen island so your back was to him, you could see the entrance to the kitchen, while keeping your lower half hidden from view. He eased your yoga pants down over your hips and got on his knees behind you.
"Keep an eye out for the little one and try not to be too loud," you heard his muffled voice before you felt him kissing his way up your thigh.
"I'll whistle," you half moaned as your husband hummed against your skin.
