Spite taking over Lucanis’ body when he sleeps because when he closes his eyes, it’s dark. Dark for hours. How many? Spite doesn’t know. It makes him nervous not to know what is happening around him because back in the Ossuary, when Lucanis is passed out that means something will happen when he wakes up.
Things moving around their prison and whispering, but if Lucanis doesn’t open his eyes, Spite won’t see. Can’t see!
So Spite has to deal with feeling comfortable to let Lucanis sleep. It’s like a feral cat slowly warming up to their new caretaker and learning how to close their eyes for longer than half a minute.
Spite adoring sleeping with Rook because with them, in theory, one could keep their eyes open while the others sleeps. But after a few nights, Spite can’t resist how warm, fluffy, cuddly everything is around them…

An Echo, A Forethought, A Prayer (pre-release fics of Taliesin x Lucanis as listed below):
Please bear in mind that the fics in this series were written and posted pre-release. So certain things may have unfolded differently or be out of character once the game released in full. I was too excited and impatient to resist posting about Taliesin.

Lucanis takes a healing Taliesin to Treviso to stretch her legs. Coffee is shared and so are confessions.

Canvas of a Lover (one-shot/complete)
Taliesin and Lucanis share a moment and reflect on the meaning of scars. Even the ones that can't be seen.
Precious Cargo (one-shot/complete)
Taliesin welcomes a new member of the Veilguard. Lucanis notices she has an endearing habit.
Lucanis and Spite from Dragon Age: The Veilguard are canonically plural.
The assassin and demon were forced to merge together as part of an experiment and decided to work together to escape their captors. Initially, Lucanis does everything in his power to not let Spite take control of his body. He ignores Spite when he talks to him in his mind. Spite tries to control him and leave your group at some point. But towards the end, they work together to tackle their enemies.
Depending on your choices in the game, Spite can bring the protagonist into Lucanis's mind, where they realize Lucanis is mentally living in a prison, trapped in past traumas. With the protagonist and Spite's help, he leaves this mental prison and comes to an agreement with Spite to form an alliance. If other choices are made, they work together temporarily and decide to find a ritual to separate them for good.
Interestingly, Lucanis and Spite choose to remain together when Lucanis is not hardened by negative events in the game : aka they remain plural if they are doing better mental health wise. It's the "good ending" for their character.
The origin of the story is supernatural, but Spite and him are plural. They share a body, can talk mentally to each other, Spite can switch and take control, later in the game they learn to co-front, they have an inner world prison in which Lucanis is mentally trapped, and dependent on the choices of the player Spite and Lucanis can choose to remain together as plural instead of seeking to be separated (which is the better non-hardened ending for the character).
