i get the idea that a lot of people are confusing ora ora (evil ๐) kei for tsuyome
above are examples of tsuyome gyaru, meaning "strong," and in this case, bold / flashy. tsuyome involves bright colors, heavy accessories, big / dyed hair, and bold makeup. tsuyome is more of an umbrella term for heavily decorated gyaru styles.
tsuyome manba is ALSO a thing. if tsuyome means strong / bold, it's clear that tsuyome manba is an even MORE extravagant version of manba. deep tans, super long hair, and very heavy accessories make a regular manba a "tsuyome manba"
above are examples of oraora or ora ora kei. roughly translating to "evil kei" from its connections to yankii - rebel youth groups / gangs. coords are often black with gold or silver hardware (belts, buttons, chains etc.), often paired with tall black boots or heels.
to reiterate: tsuyome gyaru is an umbrella term for bold/decorated gyaru, while ora ora kei is an edgier substyle.
none of this really matters outside of style archiving, nomenclature, and just expanding your gyaru vocabulary. i enjoy sharing some of the semantics of gyaru just for information purposes.

Gyaru Rant:-
๐ผ โ.ห ๐ ๐ ๐กโ.ห โ.ห ๐ ๐ ๐กโ.ห ๐ผ
I would like to share one harsh truth about being Gyaru in this present era is that gaijin and Japanese Gyarus are so different so very different it's crazy and this is one of the many reasons why gyaru culture is dying in foreign countries, the gyaru in Japan is very much based on just makeup and tan now, since all of the gyaru clothing brands have shut down Japanese gals have also moved on.
Now they just wear casual clothes or very watered down version of their subculture and put a lot of focus on tanning, hair, eye makeup and nails and this is called evolution of gyaru, Japanese gals embrace this change but a lot of foregienrs don't and they still police other new gals with "no ma*rs no gyaru honour roll for you!" And we must stop this!
We have to accept that current Japanese gyaru culture is VERY DIFFERENT and if new gals happen to find them first and follow their style then that is okay too because being gyaru is a state of mind first rather than getting all the checklist done. If gaijin gyarus want to keep the nostalgia of gal brands alive then so be it but before policing other gals especially newbies for the love of this fashion culture please look and maybe even educate yourself on how different gyaru culture is in Japan, please look at the evolution and see how much things have changed and that is okay.
