I do find it interesting that Aerion's abuse of Egg was (supposedly) predicated on Aerion feeling entitled to yet not having a sister to marry. Except for the fact that they do have sisters, one of which was older than Egg. So what's the story there? Was Daella already betrothed by the time Aerion's obsession started & therefore off limits? Did the girls & boys exist so separately that Daella just wasn't within reach 90% of the time & therefore couldn't be a target? Did Aerion ever bring up wanting to marry a sister to Maekar, & was shot down? Or is that line about having "too many brothers" just an empty justification for having yet another way to torture his brother (I mean, it's an empty justification either way. But was it something Aerion actually believed, or just something he said)?
And then there's Rhae, the sister who actually does have a canon predilection toward incest, except her infatuation was directed at Aegon. This one is easier to explain away, since she was the baby of the family, being around a decade or more younger than Aerion. She probably would've been a toddler by the time the Tourney at Ashford happened, maybe a little older. Maybe even too young to remember a time before Aerion was banished. And I have to imagine that she would've already been married by the time Aerion returned from Lys. In a world where Aerion either returned earlier or was never banished at all, would he have tried to court Rhae? Or, again, was the wanting a sister-wife thing ultimately bullshit?

it's kind of a shame that valarr dies off-page during the great targ culling of 209 because i think there'd be a lot to mine with valarr-dunk interactions and even with what little we have, their dynamic is super interesting. the prince who is never truly challenged versus dunk who is challenged non-stop everyday. dunk inspires baelor to stop resting on the laurels of the title of good man and to actually act and be one, and he does so in valarr's armour, and it kills him. did valarr spend the rest of his life wondering what would happen if he had taken baelor's place? would the thought of doing so even have crossed his mind before baelor took his armour?? would he have died for a hedge knight he didn't know?
