One of the unexpected things about Ultra Magnus was that - in human terms - he was not a morning person. He was capable of functioning well shortly after waking out of recharge, if the situation demanded it. 

The situation right now was most definitely not demanding it. Ultra Magnus turned to his side on the berth as the recharge cables retracted. Their hum faded, while the noises of daytime traffic started drifting in. There was no war right now. No crisis threatened to engulf Cybertron. He could and would do one more defrag cycle.

Behind him, Cyclonus, who very much was a morning person, shifted. Magnus felt lips press to the back of his helmet, but blissfully no attempt at rousing him followed. He still made a grumpy sound when he felt the presence behind his back disappear, as Cyclonus got up. 

The next thing he was aware was a hand brushing against his cheek.

“I brought you energon,” Cyclonus said. 

“Mhm,” Magnus turned to his back, and activated his optics. He sat up slowly, and accepted the cube. He took a sip, as his routines started running. Cyclonus settled slightly behind him, leaning against Magnus’s back. Even through the thick layers of his armour, Magnus could feel the pulsing of Cyclonus’s spark, their EM fields curling around each other. Cyclonus’s hand brushed against Magnus’s arm lazily.

Magnus turned half way so he could kiss one of Cyclonus’s horns, once he finished his energon cube. 

“You’re encouraging my bad habits again,” he said, mock-chiding.

Cyclonus snorted. “Such a horrible habit - taking fifteen more minutes to get up,” he replied, leaning up to kiss Ultra Magnus’s cheek. “Surely, Cybertron will fall if you’re allowed to sleep in.”

“When you put it like that,” Magnus chuckled. 

“But if you’d like to balance out that terrible habit with something better, how about we go sparring?” Cyclonus said, grinning at Magnus. “You wouldn’t want to get rusty…”

He pulled away and rose, and Ultra Magnus followed. He wouldn’t have actually minded staying like that a bit longer, but then he probably shouldn’t have made the comment about bad habits. Then again, sparring with Cyclonus was enjoyable in its own, much more kinetic, way.

“Is that a risk now, hm?” Magnus asked, looking down at Cyclonus.

“You’re indulging yourself in the morning,” Cyclonus shot back. “It’s bound to be a slippery slope. Leads right to avoiding combat drills. I have no choice but to drag you forcefully to spar with me.”

“Fine,” Magnus said. “I’ll indulge you. But don’t expect me to go easy on you.”
