Hi! It’s cyan. You might know me from mdzs for meta and translation and culture posts.
so my little brother and his friend fell like 800 feet off a mountain this weekend and were lost for 12 hours in the snow before the rescue team found them. I’m still getting the details, but he has pelvic fractures and is dealing with the after effects of extreme hypothermia. His left foot was exposed in 0 degree weather the entire time, and his body temperature was down to 90 by the time he was found, so. 🫠
there are predictably going to be significant medical bills for the both of them and their other friend put together this gofundme to help cover the expenses ><
if you’ve ever enjoyed my work or like my blog or just want to chip in, it would be much appreciated. Both of them are going to be okay, they’re expected to make a full recovery, but it’s been a uh, stressful few days, shall we say.
thanks so much, I know things are tough for everyone, so if you can only toss a reblog this way, that’s totally understandable. 💛
like i wouldn't even know where to BEGIN with the clusterfuck that was my library program!! the required core class whose final assignment was a 5 page research paper? in a masters program? the computing class that passed a woman who didn't know how to minimize a window? the fact that I was told I could do a thesis and when I asked how to do it, I was told to give up and not bother because it wasn't worth it? when I asked repeatedly for volunteer opportunities for students in special collections and was told that they didn't allow volunteers because it was "exploitative" but it was totally fine for us to do practicums (re: unpaid internships for class credit) with strict weekly hour requirements? when online students were not told they couldn't do theses and only found out when they tried? when they had been hybrid for over two years and yet couldn't get the technology to work half the time and therefore screwed over all the remote students? when my classmate's funding got cut off with no warning or recourse? when people graduated with no understanding of bibliographic records whatsoever because it wasn't required? when all people did was virtue signal in every class? when people complained about the readings being 60 pages? (again: in a MASTER'S degree?) when my professor talked a big game about respecting women until a woman disagreed with him and he'd talk right over them? when I practically BEGGED professors to give me a bad grade by doing assignments poorly (or incompletely! and told them so!!) and the worst I ever received was a C+? when the director of the program flat out told me she wouldn't meet with me about my concerns despite me giving her a TWO MONTH window? and then when I tried to go to a public zoom meeting for students to have a dialogue with her, she saw me and banned all my accounts and my phone number from attending? and then lied about it? or how the library sciences program was always in a fight with special collections (a department we had an actual specialty in) and also the LIBRARIES AS A WHOLE? how do you have a library sciences program that the university libraries want to evict all the time?
like. ok. this isn't even all of it.
the power of flavored water (broth, juice, etc) truly cannot be overstated
