I really liked this first screenshot because it comes from a beautiful scene of Ushio and Noriko at the park smelling flowers. The scene cuts back and forth between archival footage and recent footage, which creates an interesting comparison of the past versus the present.

I chose to screenshot this part of the documentary because I really liked this specific part and the framing of the scene. It is taken from a high angle and leaves most of the screen covered by the concrete wall yet which creates an interesting frame for the people below. The stillness of this shot was really beautiful.

This is a screenshot of Ushio in action as he creates one of his pieces by punching and spreading the paint around on the canvas. It documents his rebellious approach to art that I found very fascinating.

This is when boxer came back from Japan and cutie went to open the door. I like how the camera movement suddenly changed to handheld at this moment. And it matches the narrative of cutie saying how she feels peaceful, quiet and free when boxer is away. And now he's back, the handheld camera implies that the tumultuous life is gonna resume.

Second one is when boxer is drunk and was having a breakdown and said art is not treating him well. This is the only moment in the film where boxer is showing his vulnerable side. It's amazing how they still have all these footages.

Third one is when cutie is preparing food. I really admire her still doing all the plating under the poor situation. And this leads to boxer saying this fish is good and cheap. And cutie said but her cooking is expensive. I like how she always speaks out loud about her efforts putting into this family. And the boxer should really appreciate this.

1: The reason for choosing this scene is that first, it is described here that their family is short of money to pay the rent and no one is willing to buy their art. A lot of black element seems to be the dilemma they are facing. The three windows can be regarded as three members of their family. Although facing difficulties, they are still persevering.

2: I chose this scene because of the blue and white ribbon with numbers above the swimming pool and Ushio Shinohara walked from 3 to 1. It can be seen that their situation is beginning to change positively.

3: The scene of swimming here, together with Ushio Shinohara's narration, tells how art makes people "crazy". This gives me a visual impact. When swimming, you can float up and down like the saying that art sometimes has a good side, but at any time, art can pull people into the abyss.

Ushio and Noriko enjoy a pleasant afternoon in the park. It is a tender moment, particularly between shots of old footage of Ushio taking photos of Noriko in the same way. They seem at peace and feeling close to each other in particular in this part of the documentary. I also really liked the close up shot of Ushio's face as he rests in the sun with Noriko placing flowers on his face.

This is a shot of Ushio jumping into a pool after showing old footage of him becoming emotional with his friends. He seems overcome by feelings and there is a symbolic movement when the camera cuts to him jumping into the pool as if he is jumping into his feelings and treading through them. There is a scene of him gasping for air, and it reminds me of him coming up for air from his emotions.

I liked this scene because it showed them coexisting both as artists - not just as Noriko supporting Ushio. They are at their own workspaces but still very much working together, symbolic of a lot of their working relationship dynamic.
