Outsiders Putting In The Work.

Bedstuy/Brooklyn. Winter/2016 Outsiders. A brand name that speaks volumes. After jumping into the small business world, I took to the internet to help fill in the grey, black, white and all areas in between to understand how to build on – getting started. I was picking up a new language and I was starting to pick up on others speaking that same language. During my learning and development phase – I unlocked new parts to my existing friendships and relationships. One friend working with a small brand, connected me with another friend doing this thing, that guy knew another guy and that person connected me with Friend number 1. I learned, people want to collaborate, the small business world is full of networks and more importantly, ask your friends about things they are working on. They will surprise you. I met Carlos, founder of NecksTueday and Outsiders through…you guessed it, Friend one. They had worked together at a boutique barber shop and like all entrepreneurs, broke off to build a space they could call their own. These shots were taken during the opening party. I was able to get some time with him during that evening to pick his brain and congratulate him of course. He reminded me of someone familiar and made it easy to break into tangents during our conversation. I cant remember the specifics but I can recall his approach, it was simple, do it on your own terms. Something I found to be consistent with people creating for themselves – they wanted to do what they love in their own space. He doubled down. The Outsiders shop became home to two. The barber shop out front as the primary space calls and the back area is dedicated to running his second venture, NecksTuesday, a hand finished bow tie company.
