Digital Marketing: Don’t Be Afraid Of Change

I recently got the opportunity to attend an amazing session on digital marketing put on by SearchKings in Salt Lake City at the Podium Headquarters. Just when I think I have the whole digital game figured out, I quickly realize I will never be able to keep up with the changes and it’s a good thing I know people who devote all their time and energy to do so.

In my role at O’Connor Company it is…

- “You should take responsibility for this!” (Referring to the storm which caused ride suspension)

- “have a very old senior with me!! We should be allowed in the aquarium for free!!”

-Blamed us for someone stealing her slippers and demanded compensation

-walked up to the counter, and said nothing other than squint at me for 10secs and left

-argued with us to let her 4yr old child attend a program alone in 4m deep water

-demanded a refund because she couldn’t attend her program because she had period

-children sticking their hands through the slot to enjoy the air condition

-fully grown adults stick their whole arm in the slot

-guests all crowding around another guest because they can’t wait and don’t understand personal space

-complained why they couldn’t go in (our park closes at 6) and proceeded to throw a tantrum and that we were “inflexible”

-“what do you mean I need to have my swim wear!! What if I don’t want to?!” “Ma’am, this is a waterpark. Where you swim and play in water.” “And??” “Ma’am you cant swim in jeans.”

-asks me what the SEA Aquarium and Maritime Museum is, proceeded to get annoyed when I explained that it was in fact an aquarium and museum.

-kids screaming while maintaining eye contact with me the whole time

-a Japanese old man using a translator (that translated from Japanese to German for some reason) and started shouting at me when I didn’t understand

I don't have a British accent. I grew up with a speech impediment and was in speech therapy until my early teens.

I currently work at A&W (a fast food restaurant) and around 8pm two old men came in, they we're probably in their 40s or 50s, idk, but I greeted them nonetheless.

One of the men then response with "how are you two ladies doing tonight?"

I'm a trans guy, I'm use to being miss gendered but my coworker is a cis guy, he even has some facial hair.

I mark it up to bad eye sight and say "I'm doing good, what can I get for you today?"

Then same man then says "oh! I like your accent! Are you from (insert city name that I can't remember)?"

Whenever people ask about my "accent" it always takes me off guard. It happens often but is always out of the blue. So my response was "uhh... No?"

"oh, well I only ask because it's such a pretty British accent."

I'm just about done dealing with this guy. He's mis gendered me, asked personal information and then gave me a somewhat creepy compliment. I am uncomfortable. so I ring up his order and they go sit down.

I go into the kitchen to grab some cups and I decide to tell my other co-worker (who was only on her second day there) what happened. She was the only girl there and it was a bit funny. I tell her "some old guy told me my British accent was pretty, I don't have an accent, I have a speech impediment!"

To which she responded "WAIT YOU'RE NOT BRITISH??? I THOUGHT- I'M FROM LONDON AND I TOTALLY THOUGHT YOU WE'RE BRITISH!!!"

Me: 82 degrees.

Guest: that's hardly what I'd consider heated that's COLD!
