Indian Courser
April 26, 2016 - Indian Courser (Cursorius coromandelicus)
These coursers are found in parts of Pakistan, Nepal, India, and Sri Lanka. They eat beetles, their larvae, grasshoppers, mole crickets, and other invertebrates. Though they are considered waders, they are not found near water, but in dry stony and grassy plains. Often observed in pairs or groups, they tend to run rather than fly, calling with a strange grunting sound when forced to take off. The chicks hatch fluffy and able to run within a short time.
