Jeremy was almost mortified when he let the words 'Mine now' slip out of his mouth. The whole gang had been playing a game. Everyone was getting drunk, the rules were there were no rules. It was like a high stakes game of truth or dare, without the truth portion. Caroline, ever the brave one, put herself on the line and said whoever called out for her first got to 'own her for three days'. What did that mean? Jeremy didn't know, but he was going to find out. He'd been the first one to call it out.
So, now the game was over and everyone was reaping their spoils. Cell phones were being traded, some were going home with others for the first time, and Jeremy found himself with his hands in his pockets, waiting to see if Caroline was going to come and meet him. Did he have to explain himself? Was he going to have to tell her that he'd had a crush on her since he was a little kid? That's where the mortified portion came in. If she didn't know already, if everyone hadn't known already, they definitely did now.
Finally the sound of heels on wooden floor alerted the hunter, those were her footsteps. He straightened upright and tried to figure out what to do with his hands. Opting to leave them in his pockets, Jeremy awaited, wondering how to even start. What did one do when they owned another anyway?

Instead, he held up the thermos towards her, “I know life can really suck sometimes.
