Sweater Comm for @bkfisher of them and their wifes #DnD ocs Nolton and Mireleth šŗš
I suspect nothing will ever fill the spot Chronicles of Darkness has in my heart. But I also suspect I will be making a spot right beside it for Curseborn. Finally got to read the Ashcan and I like what I see.
I honestly am really excited to see Curseborn art and fan art. It cannot release soon enough.

I was rereading a couple of your short stories earlier today, Anticipation being one of my favorites because I find the dynamic interesting. It got me wondering how a scenario like that would turn out between Aramy and Kestrel though, or if it would happen at all? They call each other their ministra and energos, but obviously have a much different style of doing things. Hope you don't mind me asking but curiosity got the better of me.
Time to answer some asks that have been sitting in my box for a while. I donāt know why the eff I have the tumblr app on my phone if it doesnāt even give me notificationsā¦. >_>
Anyway, this is a great question, anon, and honestly not one Iād thought of before. The energos/ministra system is obviously my take on the whole A/B/O thing, and one of the things i wanted to explore was showing how everyoneās relationships are different despite them all slotting into dominant/submissive roles. Ilya and Dracen Iāll (somewhat) shamelessly admit I created to be the designated kinky BDSM porn couple, the closest example to playing the energos/ministra (or alpha/omega if you will) dynamic straight - while still being a healthy, respectful relationship of course. You can view something like Alexandirās relationship with his ministra as the dark side of that, or Carnelioās treatment of Aramy.
Kestrel and Aramy have a much more subversive dynamic so yeah, I canāt really imagine such a scene ever taking place between the two of them. For one thing, Kestrel would never even consider using physical force on Aramy, not after everything heās been through with Carnelio. And honestly I donāt think Kestrel sees their relationship as Aramy submitting to him, but almost the opposite way around - Aramy is the king, he is Aramyās loyal knight. But thatās not to say theyāve simply reversed things; for them, the energos/ministra dynamic mostly comes to play in the bedroom. I didnāt get to explore it asĀ much as Iād have liked in the story (one thing to change in the rewrite!) but Aramy is very into bondage/restraints and sensory deprivation, and itās a sign of his trust in Kestrel that he lets Kestrel take the lead during sex and control his body that way. But Kestrel doesnāt see himself as having the license to discipline Aramy in the way Dracen does Ilya, so anyĀ āpunishmentsā between them are more or less lighthearted sex games rather than anything serious.Ā
So basically Dracen/Ilya are 24/7 while Kestrel/Aramy arenāt, lol.
First post of the new year are some silly character facts/headcanons.
Singing As a general rule, ministra are trained to sing because many of their spells require it. Therefore very few are actually bad singers, but some are more talented/passionate about it than others.
Kestrel is a terrible singer; he rarely does it willingly and if heās forced to do it, is the type to yell or belt very loudly to cover up his complete inability to carry a tune. Most of his experience involves being roped into joining bawdy drinking songs as a cadet
.Aramy is a decent singer, above average for a ministra, but not especially talented. His voice is nice and clear, but not very memorable. Outside of casting spells, he sings poetry sometimes.
Ilya is only about as good of a singer as he absolutely needs to be, and even then he rarely performs singing spells (he can get away with it because they mostly involve buffing, which doesnāt work for his and Dracenās relationship where he does the bulk of the fighting). In a modern day setting heād be a great emo punk rocker, but heās near hopeless with the sweet, delicate style expected of ministra.Ā
Dracen is actually quite a good singer, with a smooth and mellow baritone. Heās good at holding notes, too. Heāll hum to himself and sing for Ilyaās sake, but doesnāt do it often in public except at occasions where itās expected like hymns and at ceremonies/festivals.
Carnelio canāt sing for crap--itās not a skill needed of a prince, after all. And he chauvinistically views it as something āfor ministra.ā
Terry is a great singer and sheās quite passionate about it. She has a strong mezzo soprano--I imagine her to sound like a symphonic metal lead singer. Very virtuosic with her voice and able to hit extremely high notes. She enjoys opera and likes to sing her favorite arias. Mato is pretty much tune deaf.
Alexandir is an average singer. Unusually, wood energi are taught some singing spells, so it would have been a basic part of his education. He and Euthymius are of a musical bent and often duet together while playing instruments. In fact, Euthymius was considered the best singer in the Consortās Court.
Aurent is a good singer with a strong voice. Sorcery spells often involve more singing than chanting, so itās viewed as a necessary skill to have. They sing in ceremonies as well and even in their daily lives to pass time; theyāre a very musical people.
Terl can play a few instruments all right, but heās completely unable to sing. It sounds like a dying cat, to put it generously. Heās embarrassed by this.
Jessam is a good singer, but not nearly as good as he thinks he is.
Heron is an absolutely amazing singer--all of Ophiantās dolls, even the Rooks, are designed to be, since theyāre birds after all! His voice is high, clear, and sweet, enchanting all who hear it.
Ophiant canāt sing--heās actually physically incapable of raising his voice enough to do it, thanks to all the Black Sting messing with his throat. This affects his entire vocal range: he canāt yell either. When he does sing, the most he can do is hum quiet, monotonous tunes.
Renna may not have much talent, but makes up for it with enthusiasm. Whatās the point in being a pirate if you canāt bellow sea shanties with the crew?
Rhynan isnāt terrible at singing, but does it rarely as he just doesnāt āgetā music. He may also have a bit of a āitās for ministraā attitude. On the other hand, Loni is a talented singer with a sweet, bubbly voice.
Kahar is good at the kind of husky throat-singing her people do, but has no talent for or interest in standard Seneran-style music.
Amani only sings for spells (then again, she only talks for spells too). Her singing voice is adequate, but nothing remarkable. It was never her best suit even back when she did talk.
Alisdair is surprisingly good at singing. Heās had plenty of time to practice all by himself over the years, after all. His repertoire is limited to Heathlander folk songs, though.
I wrote a little snippet of Aramy and Ilya interacting shortly after the end of Curseborn. Naturally, itās got major spoilers, so Iām putting it behind a cut. Itās just a light, fun scene that sort of came into my head one day and wouldnāt leave. Mostly I just think I like writing these two together; they have such a fun dynamic.Ā
If thereās interest, I might try to do more of these little things. Maybe even take prompts? As I wade knee deep into editing Alone, Together, it feels nice to be able to create some new stuff with these characters and in this world too.
