Kind of old news but brought up again recently. I've read someone elsewhere write a post about this.
"SED / FED TVs uses Electron Emision, Vacum Glass and Phophore Coated Screens in a completely diferent fashion than CRT TVs...Instead of a Single Big, Heavy and Power Hungry Tube with 3 Electron Guns, you use a flat Thin Glass Sandwich with not just one electron source, but millions of them, an array of electron Emitters, each per sub pixel Coated on screen...all of them Could turn on or off individually and dont rely on "Scaning" to draw the screen (therefore, no Flickering in progressive content)"
But IMHO It would still have the problem that necessitated the need for scan-lines and filters for retro games as that was the case when emulation was relatively new and we were using VGA CRT monitors for them. And these would be even denser with the pixels than those where.
The main benefit for these would probably be for HDR. But I can tell they work virtually nothing like an old CRT monitor does and wouldn't look like it either⦠especially because of that pixel density. The pixels are so small just like with certain modern displays you wouldn't be able to see them. And turning down the resolution on these probably wouldn't help with that pixel density and you'd have less to work with for filtering..
my beloved thrifted setup
cds and cassettes are from my dad! recently thrifted this LOVELY speaker set for $20, in perfect condition afaik, with BOTH cassette readers working. it's been a great companion for the CRT monitor I swept off the sidewalk last summer, along with our newest addition, an aquarium lamp. i could not be happier :)
