The guy who plays Mary-Anne’s Dad in the Netflix ‘Baby-Sitters Club’ series (Marc Evan Jackson) is ALSO one of the head demons, ‘Shawn’, in ‘The Good Place’.  

And now my brain can’t stop insisting these are set in the same universe.

Like: Shawn says socially awkward things while sounding totally serious.  So does Mary-Anne’s Dad.  Imagine if Shawn-the-Demon lost a bet or something and the consequences were having to raise a child... and to his horror, he actually ended up LIKING Mary-Anne?  And while he does his best to teach her all the demony things, Mary-Anne just dismisses anything weird he does as social awkwardness/lawyer stuff.  

Xue Yang is the Monkey King, Xiao Xingchen can be the monk, then A-Qing can be Pigsy/Zhu Bajie because she and Xue Yang fight a lot and complain to Xiao Xingchen about each other, and then Song Lan can be Sha Wujing (who doesn’t get a lot of character development, but he sides with Pigsy a lot when Monkey is being an ass).

They could be journeying to Baoshan Sanren’s mountain just ‘cause.

My most recent post is the first episode in a series about the African-American tradition in music, beginning with songs by slaves, evolving through spirituals, gospel, and blues into rhythm & blues, Motown, funk, disco, and dance.

This series is the counterpart of articles I previously published on the influence of the music that European immigrants brought with them to the US. These songs laid the foundations for country & western among others.
