“I don’t know who I am, but now I know who I’m not.” [bookofvesper]
Percival didn’t speak. Not at first, at least. The reality was setting in. And how funny a thing reality could be at that.
How his heart could swell so much at once and then just as fast shatter, casting his hopes and desires into the wind. All at once he buried his outward emotions, concealing the whirlwind under the surface of a calm and nearly cold exterior.
What burned the most was the odd sense of frustration, the real understanding, and empathy he felt for her words.
Because he- He was also lost.
That self-loathing that filled the hole of repression within his heart. Whoever he was now wasn’t the same that Vesper would have known. Not that she could even recall.
They both may as well be strangers. He knew that. That cold processing part of his thinking knew it at once. Despite what he desperately wanted.
His hand began to reach out to her from the shadows caused by the fading sun but he stopped himself short. Instead, he pulled back having a painfully hard time even attempting.
He sucked in air and then let out a deep exhale in thought, forming the words he thought would be good to say and those that he wanted and coming to some sort of middle ground with them.
“I- I think... I think that’s good.” He thought again to himself and what he could pull from his core. What could truly be who he was. And he struggled. “I think that is a step forward.”
