Design Origins:

Cresselia is visually inspired by a swan or crane, as well as specifically a xiānnǚ from Chinese swan maiden stories which often disguises themselves as a swan or crane. Furthermore it may draw from Chang'e, the goddess of the moon from Chinese mythology and who herself if a xiānnǚ. Its crescent wings and aurora near its tail resembles planetary rings as well as the silk shawls often worn by xiānnǚ. Its may also be inspired by the Cygnus constellation.
