expansion of Birds of Prey plotline where Helena leaves the team after finding out Babs was trying to manipulate her and takes Savant and Creote (the blackmail expert + his companion/minion who Barbara was trying to reform).

This is post War Games, in my head James Cooper did NOT disappear from canon (James is Helena's adopted son at the end of her 1989 solo series), he puts his inventive genius + unparalleled trolling abilities to use to help Helena and irritate the shit out of Savant. He would be a young adult here, like 18/19

Stephanie Brown, rather than dying in War Games or having her death faked and being spirited away to Africa (IIRC they literally NEVER got more specific than that) asks Leslie to fake her death, b/c she is too ashamed to face Batfam and her mom (tying into her Batgirl solo series theme about returning to Gotham and staying and trying to fight, this is during her flee era). She finds Helena and joins her team while recovering from her wounds, mostly kind of bouncing off ideas, not doing anything in the field -- she's still recovering. The cane is to assist in walking as she's recovering,
