Happy (slightly belated) 57th birthday to one of my all time favorite voice actresses, Cree Summer!
She absolutely lit up my childhood & the more I read about her, the more I fall in love with her career. ♥️
So many of these roles were key to my childhood:
Susie Carmichael from Rugrats, Princess Kida from Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Numbuh Five/Abby from Codename: Kids Next Door, various singing roles + my fav obvious Tyra Banks insert; Tanya from Class of 3000, Foxxy Love from Drawn Together & our OG gorgeous queen sexy green M&M. [I could name several extra roles she's had in my favorite shows such as The Boondocks, Pinky & The Brain, Rick & Morty, but we would be here forever!]
Cree is also a notable musician, and has cited Frank Zappa as one of her biggest influences, and worked closely with Dweezil before. This is just wonderful to hear as a musician who would have to say the same. Everything she works on, lights my nerd brain up in all the right places. 💡💛
Now is a wonderful time to indulge in Cree's work! I'm so thankful she has helped bring so many iconic characters, particularly women of colour, to life in ways I'll never forget. 📺🌈
She happen to be born the same week as one of my parents, just a cool coincidence especially considering how much that parent loved Drawn Together and helped build my love for animation as a whole. 💘💘
