Every time you update 'Nocturnal Acquaintances' I remember how much I want to read it, but the word count is up to almost 300k by now and I'm trying desperately to get some writing of my own done. It's a slow process as it is and most often I end up reworking stuff three times over. Any tips on how to be even half as productive as you?
First of, I am so honoured for you to even consider reading the monstrosity I have created! Believe me, there are times it scares me...
For writing tips... I don't know whether I can tell you anything new...
Once I got over the feeling of pressure when it came to weekly updates, writing got a little easier. I know that, if it gets too much and I won't make it for a week or two, I can always come back to it.
I also don't put any pressure on myself when it comes to writing. I have several WIPs at the moment but that's fine, they'll all be ready in time.
Another thing that helps me is a structural outline. My mapping and planning are really rough and without details but it reminds me of what ideas I had for a certain chapter.
Filler. Once you might start reading 'Nocturnal Acquaintances,' you'll read a few shorter chapters with less content. They are not as emotional or interesting as others but they are still useful and necessary. (Also, they usually come in when I have exams 😂)
Breaks. I have made it a rule for myself not to work on the monster for one or two days after uploading NA. Personally, it helps air out my mind.
Backup. Now, this is no longer accurate because I used up the chapters I had up my sleeve over a year ago. But especially with regular multi-chapter uploads, backup chapters are a nice safety cushion if you get a block one week.
