In this dry garden the Triteleia ixioides 'Starlight' (triplet lily) is flowering between the evergreen orange-bronze leaves of Libertia peregrinans 'Gold Leaf' (wandering Chilean iris). The flowers of this cultivar of the cormous perennial Triteleia are cream with a pale purple stripe down the centre of each petal.

In the meadow the Crocus are being joined by the delicate flowers of Narcissus 'Elka' (daffodil). This small cultivar has upright flowering stems, often more than 1 per bulb, and they appear early in the season but are weather-resistant.

Despite the hot weather the Silene 'Confetti' (catchfly) was flowering in this dry garden. This perennial produces strong upright stems from a base of thick green leaves, it will flower in sun or partial shade.

In this sheltered courtyard at Madingley Hall, Cambridge, UK, the winter flowering Clematis cirrhosa var. balearica (fern-leaved clematis, evergreen clematis, Minorca clematis, winter-flowering clematis) is providing a show. This evergreen climber has small, very finely cut, dark green leaves and slightly fragrant, creamy-yellow flowers spotted purple within. Flowers are followed by fluffy seedheads.

A pale cream form of Eschscholzia californica (Californian poppy) seeds around the dry garden at the Beth Chatto Garden, Essex, UK. The plants have finely divided blue-green leaves and the flowers are followed by conspicuous long pods producing the seed for this annualโs next summer display.
