ok there are people following me who may play another crab's treasure so i usually keep my posts spoiler-light not counting character names or like. in-depth environmental observations about plastic but a character said some shit to me and sent me on a spiral so MAJOR ENDGAME spoilers under the cut cause i gotta get this out.
I MEAN IT. IF YOU HAVE ANY INTEREST IN THIS GAME STOP READING AND PLAY IT :3!
so the gist is konche links the enchanted grove DIRECTLY to the old ocean and therefore carcinia.
and the crab in the moist crack directly references the whorl and it being taken
this is interesting for MANY reasons to me, not least of which is that it implies a very close physical distance between carcinia and the grove. however, i find it unlikely that the city carcinia itself was a part of the grove, given that the old ocean is dominated by corals and anemone (bleached, now) and the grove is (and likely has always been) dominated by kelp. and also this graphic i made connecting some of the maps showing how far east carcinia is now.
but i dont think carcinia was always this far away, or this deep in the ocean. i think its some magic bullshit the entire way down, it's in the twilight zone but is bright, literally almost Sunny. it's a snapshot into how it used to look and also how it will always look, now. bleached and preserved. and looking at these maps in their entirety got me thinking... where do we see the most hermit architecture (the umami cubes) and hermit npcs. the sands between. where has very little development despite almost certainly not having a monster there the Entire time. the sands between. what are the two biggest areas in the game that are shaped somewhat similar, and if you condensed one of them it would fit inside the other? there is even a fucking bridge? new carcinia as a city even has the connective tissue of cleaning tools and supplies (scrub brush trees, sponges), glass architectural elements, and the reefs and anemones.
Here's what i think: The reef used to be Bigger
edit: AND. where else do we see styrofoam? a couple bits in the sands between, and in new carcinia. i rest my fucking case
