a peek behind the scenes at our dairy farm
hi, it's us, SRC Farms 🐄 we run a dairy farm out in Hooghly, just outside Kolkata, and we wanted to share a bit about how our milk actually gets from the farm to your door, because honestly people ask us this a lot.
so here's the short version: our cows (mostly Holstein Friesians) are milked using automated DeLaval machines, which keeps things clean and low stress for them. the milk then goes straight to our in-house lab, where it's tested before packing and again after, checking for antibiotics, preservatives, all of it. once it passes, it's loaded into a refrigerated van and delivered to your doorstep, usually within 24 hours of milking.
no middlemen, no sitting around on a shelf for a week, no mystery ingredients.
a few things we're genuinely proud of:
everything we produce is A2 milk, meaning it only has the A2 beta casein protein, which a lot of people find easier on digestion
we cover delivery across Kolkata and Howrah, including Rajarhat, Newtown, and Bidhannagar
we turn cow dung into organic fertilizer and bioslurry instead of wasting it, small thing but it matters for soil health
our cows get regular health checkups and a proper balanced diet, because happy cows really do make better milk
you can see our whole process laid out on our website if you're curious, and we post regular farm updates on LinkedIn too if you want to follow along.
that's it for now. back to the farm 🌾
Why Everyone's Suddenly Talking About A2 Cow Milk
If you've noticed "A2" popping up on milk cartons lately, you're not imagining things. It's not just a passing label trend either. A2 cow milk is a real, distinct product compared to the regular milk most of us grew up drinking, and that's exactly why more households across Kolkata and Howrah are switching things up.
So What's the Actual Difference Between A1 and A2?
Cow milk contains a protein called beta-casein, and it comes in two types: A1 and A2. Most regular milk on the market is a mix of both, mainly because it comes from crossbred cattle. A2 milk is different. It comes exclusively from cows that produce only the A2 protein variant, typically native Indian breeds or select crossbreeds raised specifically for this purpose.
The reason this matters comes down to digestion. A1 protein can break down into a compound called BCM-7 during digestion, and this has been linked to bloating and general digestive discomfort in some people. A2 milk simply doesn't create this compound, which is why people who struggle with regular milk often find A2 much easier to handle.
An A2 Label Doesn't Automatically Mean Quality
Here's the thing though, not every product labeled A2 is actually pure A2. Confirming real protein composition takes proper lab testing, and even good milk can lose its quality if it's not handled and transported carefully.
This is where SRC Farms really stands apart. Located in Hooghly, West Bengal, SRC Farms runs one of the most advanced automated dairy farms in Eastern India, with a herd of Holstein Friesian cows specifically raised for A2 milk. Every single batch gets tested in-house, both before packing and after, so their quality claims actually hold up.
Fast, Fresh, and Traceable
Milk quality drops quickly if it's not moved fast. SRC Farms handles this with a fully mechanized, hands-free milking process, refrigerated transport, and doorstep delivery within 24 hours of milking. No dilution, no standardization, no preservatives added anywhere along the way.
That kind of reliability is why families across Kolkata, Rajarhat, Newtown, Bidhannagar, and Howrah keep coming back to SRC Farms. It's milk you can actually trace back to a specific farm and herd, not just a random supply chain.
Should You Make the Switch?
If regular milk usually leaves you feeling bloated or heavy, or you just want something closer to its natural, unprocessed form, A2 milk is worth a try. It won't replace medical advice if you have a diagnosed intolerance, but for daily use, it's typically a gentler choice.
If you're based in Kolkata or Howrah and want to start somewhere, SRC Farms' A2 Cow Milk is a good place to begin. It's lab-tested, antibiotic-free, and delivered fresh every single morning.
Bottom Line
A2 milk isn't hype. It's dairy going back to how it should be done, and with farms like SRC Farms making it genuinely accessible in West Bengal, there's not much reason left to settle for anything less.

Jaggery Powder: A Wholesome Natural Sweetener for Everyday Health
Jaggery powder is a traditional natural sweetener that has been used in Indian households for generations. Made from fresh sugarcane juice through a simple and natural process, it offers a rich taste and retains many of the nutrients found in sugarcane. As more people look for healthier alternatives to refined sugar, jaggery powder has become a popular choice for cooking, baking, and preparing beverages. Its authentic flavor and nutritional value make it an excellent addition to a balanced diet.
What Is Jaggery Powder?
Jaggery powder is produced by boiling freshly extracted sugarcane juice until it thickens into a concentrated form. Once cooled, it is dried and finely ground into powder. Unlike refined sugar, which undergoes extensive chemical processing, jaggery is minimally processed, allowing it to retain its natural minerals and characteristic golden-brown color.
This traditional method gives jaggery powder its distinctive taste and makes it suitable for a wide variety of culinary applications.
Nutritional Benefits
One of the main reasons people choose jaggery powder is its nutritional content. It naturally contains minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus. These nutrients play a role in supporting normal body functions when included as part of a balanced diet.
Jaggery also provides carbohydrates that supply energy for daily activities. Although it is still a source of sugar and should be consumed in moderation, it offers more natural nutrients than highly refined white sugar.
Why Choose Jaggery Powder?
Many families are replacing refined sugar with jaggery powder because of its natural preparation and versatility. It is free from artificial colors and chemical refining, making it a preferred option for people who enjoy traditional food ingredients.
Some of the advantages include:
Natural sweetness with a rich caramel flavor.
Contains naturally occurring minerals.
Easy to dissolve in hot beverages.
Suitable for cooking and baking.
Ideal for traditional Indian recipes.
Minimally processed compared to refined sugar.
Its unique flavor also enhances both sweet and savory dishes.
Uses in Everyday Cooking
The versatility of jaggery powder allows it to be used in many recipes without changing their authentic taste. It blends easily with other ingredients and adds depth of flavor.
Popular uses include:
Sweetening tea and coffee
Preparing laddoos, halwa, and chikki
Making kheer and payasam
Baking cakes, muffins, and cookies
Flavoring smoothies and milkshakes
Preparing sauces and chutneys
Sweetening breakfast cereals and porridge
Its pleasant taste makes it suitable for both traditional and modern recipes.
How to Select High-Quality Jaggery Powder
Choosing pure jaggery powder ensures better taste and quality. Always look for products with a natural golden to dark brown color and a pleasant aroma. The powder should be dry, free-flowing, and free from excessive moisture.
Read the ingredient label carefully to ensure there are no artificial colors, preservatives, or unnecessary additives. Buying from trusted brands helps guarantee purity and freshness.
Storage Tips
Proper storage keeps jaggery fresh and prevents clumping.
Follow these simple guidelines:
Store it in an airtight container.
Keep it away from moisture.
Place it in a cool and dry location.
Use a clean, dry spoon when serving.
These steps help preserve its texture, flavor, and shelf life.
Why It Is Becoming More Popular
Consumers today are increasingly choosing foods that are natural and minimally processed. Jaggery powder perfectly matches this growing preference by offering traditional sweetness along with essential minerals. It is commonly used by families, home bakers, and health-conscious individuals who want a more natural ingredient for their daily recipes.
Its versatility, authentic taste, and ease of use have made it a staple in many kitchens around the world.
Conclusion
Jaggery powder is more than just a natural sweetener—it is a traditional ingredient that combines authentic flavor with nutritional value. From beverages and desserts to everyday cooking, it offers countless ways to enjoy natural sweetness without relying solely on refined sugar.
