if youre cow therian you are going to be assumed to be a girl. if you don't like that, you're not cow therian -- you're *cattle* therian.
pick one of the non-gendered words for it, or get comfortable being genderfucky with it. we have some COOL vocabulary that no one fucking uses. definitions of some common terms, using industry definitions (these do obviously have issues but that's some of the itneresting part about using them!):
bull = noncastrated male
cow = specifically a female that has given birth
heifer = specifically a female that is young and hasn't given birth yet
bullock = young male calf
calf = nongendered term for the young
dam = cow used repeatedly for breeding
steer = castrated male steer for laboring (see ox)
ox = non-gendered, working cow for pulling weight or riding
freemartin = AFAB twin of a bull that has an intersex condition due to this
maverick = cow equivalent of a ronin. not gendered, unbranded.
all the neat historical terms that aren't used anymore
cow is technically the singular but it's only because statistically 90% of cattle on a farm are cows

it feels soooo good to finally kinfirm something that I've been avoiding since I was 13. one of my first fursonas was a cow and I have always felt like I'm supposed to be in the fields with cows I drive by, but I didn't want to admit it to myself. partly it was because cows are mistreated on an industrial level, and also partly because of how I see people comment on cute videos of cows and other animals online (namely, eating them). I also felt like people think cows are gross animals or feel that they are not charismatic animals and are therefore "lesser." I have heard similar sentiments from other farm-type animal kins and insectkins (which I am similarly examining a likely bumblebee kintype)
as a pet regressor, I also feel that this newly accepted part of my identity will make regressing much more fun and free feeling. getting to be a calf thus far has been so so fun! I have been overjoyed!
