dry cough will cause:

headaches

throat pain

sternum pain

back pain

rib pain

it will make the following actions hurt:

coughing (obviously)

laughing

bending over

deep breaths

suppressing the cough

if your whumpee has had a shoulder injury, either past or present, their shoulder WILL HURT WITH EACH COUGH.

Whumpee sick with some sort of respiratory bug. Violent, raspy coughs that they're unable to stop, that rattle their lungs so badly they can feel each choked inhale shaking beneath their sternum.

The back of their throat feels like sandpaper, each pull of air into their lungs triggering another bout of coughs that leave them teary eyed and doubled over, gasping for breath. No matter how how shallow they try to inhale, their own breathing betrays them.

Being unable to speak due to how weak their voice has gotten, barely rasping out a few words before they devolve into another round of lung-rattling coughs. The inability to speak making it even harder to ask for help.

Whumpee coughing so hard they start drying heaving, puking as the harsh spasms trigger their gag reflex and have bile climbing up their throat, the stomach acid making the dry burn in the back of it worse and pushing them into even more violent coughing.

Their lungs spasming so much Whumpee can feel them pressing against their ribcage, their entire torso hurting as each cough only stands to make the pain worse.

maybe theyve got a fever while riding a train and every little bump and sway of the vehicle sends their head spinning

they have to carry around heavy luggage with aching arms and stand in an uncomfortably crowded space while they wait in line to get their bags checked

maybe theyre horribly nauseous and struggling to maintain composure to avoid embarrassing themself as they get airsick near an anxious passenger

pressing their too-warm face against the cold glass of a window only to be met with the incessant vibrations that only worsen their headache

maybe sniffling/sneezing and coughing loudly, drawing the annoyed attention of other passengers and sheepishly ducking their head in shame, neck burning against the scrutiny

racked with chills and pulling their coat tighter around themself as they stifle a shiver, set off by every small breeze that may make its way through the open bus windows
